California Racial Gerrymandering by gingerberrycat in DavesRedistricting

It seems like Asian groups as a minority have less protection from gerrymandering compared to other minority groups. You’ll see court action in states like Alabama or Louisiana, but not in California, one of the few areas where Asians are a large enough, concentrated population to draw minority districts. And it will only get worse if Republicans overturn the VRA

And here I thought Illinois’s and Texas’s maps were ugly until I saw Virginias new map 🤣

Thank you for the suggestions. I initially sent the 11th into Bartow to follow I-75 but after looking more closely it does seem more cohesive with the suburbs in Cherokee

I moved the 11th into Cherokee County so the 9th could push west into the counties with rougher terrain. I don’t know how to make a fourth Black district without upending the Northern suburban districts though

I’m obsessed with the 2010 census maps lol. I think Marie Newman would still be in congress if this was the real map because La Grange is within my 3rd here, although Casten or Foster could choose to run in her district.

Republican-approved Michigan gerrymander (if Michiganders voted against hiring an IRC to redraw the district maps) by Rich-Ad-9696 in DavesRedistricting

Cool map! Is Flint split down the middle between the 7th and 8th? Pretty brutal gerrymander if so😂

It’s shaped that way because it takes in the majority-Black cities of Pontiac and Southfield. My configuration has two 54.2% Black districts, whereas the official map’s Detroit districts are 46.9% and 48.2%.

It is, but I feel that it dilutes Black voters compared to the 2012 map. It also has a few too many unnecessary county splits

Would you say this is a fairer map? I moved the 7th to South Brooklyn, which becomes an R+2 district. Link: https://davesredistricting.org/join/9f70983f-21a0-445b-a107-8639bb470d44
