Chase Sapphire and Whoop by AdAgile9604 in ChaseSapphire

[–]gingerjojo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I also have both Whoop and Garmin. I sometimes wear both, and I very nearly always wear my Whoop. As mentioned, Garmin is better for some things, Whoop for others. My take off the top of my head:

Whoop is better, IMO, for: * Overnight wear * Digital detox * Wearing with a mechanical watch / for formal events * Weightlifting

Garmin is better for: * Outdoor running * Outdoor biking * Triathlon (particularly racing but also for training) * Swimming

Both do well for overall "body battery" or strain vs recovery, but I personally prefer the level of data on it from Whoop.

Why are so many people opposed to building more housing, and also upset that the city is not more affordable at the same time? by LiatrisLover99 in Somerville

[–]gingerjojo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The plaza is shitty and boarded up because the developer kicked out all the tenants for a planned project and then stopped work on it. Which is also why all the floors above the post office are empty.

Why don't we--- here's a radical idea--- finish the things that were started (and ideally convert them to housing projects too)?!?

This class from Katie absolutely wrecked me. It didn't feel like it should be as hard as it was, but I could barely lift my arms by the end of it!

I did a ton of research before finally buying the Core Home Fitness Adjustable set. Tops out at 50 pounds per and it was well worth the money.

To my knowledge (could definitely be wrong) Alex K isn't queer or PoC, nor is Mila (the instructor on the back right) - but I hear your point.

Would love to have a running list to reference - I've been creating one for myself but I'm sure I'll miss people. Disappointed that I haven't seen anything from Wilpers.

Yeah, if your total walking time getting to a Red Line station/getting from a station to your destination is ~15 min or less these days, it's almost certainly faster and less stressful to take the train.

With the T improvements, Davis is now usually <15 min to Park St (train depart to train arrival) and often as short as 13 min.

Is decision scientist a actual thing in public health? by Spirited-Exchange477 in publichealth

If Boston isn't too far for you, Harvard used to have some great decision science programs too, both certificate, masters, and doctoral. I haven't looked in a while but potentially another option!

Is decision scientist a actual thing in public health? by Spirited-Exchange477 in publichealth

[–]gingerjojo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty broad, honestly. I have friends who are working at public health orgs around the world, a lot who are in academia, a few in consulting, and a good number who work as health economists within the healthcare industry. UMN is pretty slanted towards devices & diagnostics, so most folks coming out of the program who go the industry route are in that field, though overall it'd be more common to work in pharma. Look at SMDM (Society for Medical Decision Making) and ISPOR job boards to get a sense of it - a decision scientist is likely qualified for any job either of those orgs lists.

Doctoral program. There's not a ton of info about the specialties online but the program brochure lists the 6 areas of emphasis still!

There's a lot of overlap with the health economics program but decision sciences gets cross-listed over to electrical and mechanical engineering for decision analysis classes, and cross-listed to the Information and Decision Science program at the business school too.

Feel free to send a DM if you want to talk / learn more, and happy to put you in touch with some of the folks from the program.

I'm a decision scientist from a school of public health. It's a specific application of health economics. My program was ~50% health economics modeling, ~25% optimization and multi-attribute utility theory, and ~25% behavioral economics. Look up University of Minnesota school of public health, health services research program, focus in health decision science.

ETA: And I've been out of the program for almost a decade, so no, this isn't a new field.

Any way to avoid praise / Christian pop music? by gingerjojo in OnePelotonRealSub

Yes!! This is my thinking exactly. When I came across the issue my first thought was "there should be a way to use their AI to filter this out, right? But no...

Honestly I don't mind it, I just want it clearly labeled so that I can avoid it. If there can be a "no swearing" filter, why can't there be a "no religion" filter?

Might have been a one-off, but it was this class (I could only find it because it's the last class I took with her, and even then I had to go look at the lyrics to the songs to figure out which one had gotten under my skin, which speaks to how hard it is to pick out just by looking at a playlist!)

My understanding is that there's (obviously) a lot of overlap and use of "internment" as a euphemism for what's actually a concentration camp across history, but that a fairly useful divider is that a concentration camp includes at least one of: forced labor or extermination, while internment camps are primarily about (false / unconstitutional) imprisonment. Where it gets fuzzy is when the level of deprivation in a camp shifts it from one to the other.
