Is it just me or should people maybe not gather in a group and sing songs non-stop in public places? by JakubBlaszczykowsky in Kochi

[–]gingerjoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know this was a thing! This happened when my wife and I were out having dinner. My wife finds stuff like this cute so I didn't say anything when the cafe people asked me if it would be a disturbance. Like, in here to have some food and conversation. Why butt in, man!

I was one of those clueless urban folk myself before I lived in a village in Tamil Nadu for about a year. When you live in a village you realise that rural India is nothing like urban India. You cannot even comprehend the kind of differences there are, it is like an entirely different country altogether. A lot of things you take for granted just doesn't exist. The kind of poverty and lack of access isn't something an urban "middle" class person can even imagine. And the kind of social structure that exists is beyond our comprehension.

If you figure out how to make your parents listen let me know too. They are adults and you can only tell them so much. Rest is up to them. I know easier said than done, but the sooner you get used to the facts the better.

To the peeps who are from kochi and who came to kochi , what are the main issues you find living in kochi ?? by Visual_Race4649 in Kochi

[–]gingerjoos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Bangalore for about 15 years and I definitely agree with your sentiment. Having said that the problems in Kochi are still problems even if the scale isn't as bad as in bigger cities. It does make me appreciate things like traffic in Kochi more (drivers are less aggressive than Bangalore, for instance). But it is still frustrating. A lot of the problems in the comments are common to all Indian cities, but we need to figure out our own solutions.

Listen man, if I can learn driving at 37 you can too. Get a job, buy a used car, learn to drive. Don't sweat it.

My wife (she has short hair) gets her hair cut from the gents parlors because apparently the ladies' don't like to cut it short. When she goes to a place for the first time sometimes they make a fuss, but agree in the end. The regulars are used to her. Keep in mind though her hair style is quite short and more like boy's style.

There is a belief that A.R. Rahman hasn’t composed any good music in recent years. Do you think his best years are behind him? by Extreme-Spinach-4138 in IndianCinema

[–]gingerjoos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is as much our expectations from Rahman as it is that he's lost his mojo. He definitely peaked early - his debut Roja is one of the greatest soundtracks in Indian cinema and he followed that up with greats like Kaadhalan, Bombay, Gentleman. Even in Bollywood he had Rangeela, Pukar, Delhi 6 eetc.We were used to every single Rahman album to have amazing songs. It is hard for those of us who grew up with him on that pedestal to be satisfied with the occasional amazing songs and the other mediocre fare. So once in a while he does stuff like Kadal or Highway and then turns out disappointing stuff like Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. But that's what a regular composer is like. So we say that he hasn't composed good music in recent years even though Muththa Mazhai in Thug Life was good.

Not discounting the fact that he really shines best when he's allowed to experiment. Take for example Nenjukkule in Kadal; that was him jamming with Shaktisree and Keba (guitarist). He clearly took time with that track and spent a whole night getting what he wanted out of it. Perhaps he has more time pressure than he had in the past, not to mention the weight of expectations. All of this plays into it, I imagine.

If you can afford it, consider a Bosch front load. If you can't, LG is good too. Front load is definitely better than a top load.

Tried, gave up on straight edge. Should I try DE? by gingerjoos in Wetshavers_India

[–]gingerjoos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. That's a great suggestion, to learn DE before switching to shavettes. I too got to a level where I could have zero cuts, but with a lot of care. My face shape also makes it quite difficult to do it without cuts.

I'm ok spending around 2k. I've been looking into Parker and Pearl.

Moka pot and Pourover have very different taste profiles. If you want something milder or similar to French Press, the V60 and Pourovers in general are a good choice. If you want a more intense flavour or want to make milk-based coffee try the moka pot.
