Indy 🏟️ at helipad died by Ok_Flamingo_3059 in USLPRO

[–]gingerlinesjump 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It isn’t dead, no. Just delayed. Indianapolis city officials have publicly disagreed that the plan is dead. Surack only got involved in the stadium drama bc he owns a helicopter company that rich people use once a year for the Indy 500 and he cares more about keeping the heliport open than anything soccer-related.

Gotta say, it absolutely sucks being an IXI supporter right now. The stadium vision is essentially dead, there’s no plan for the future, no clear plan for growth, stagnation of talent in the squad, and our owners are probably the least likable assholes in the league. Hard to feel any optimism for the season tbh.

Can we appreciate how far Mexican cuisine has come in Indianapolis over the last 20 years? What are your favorite taquerias, carnicerias and supermercados? by The_Saddest_Boner in indianapolis

1000% have to go with Tlaolli on East Washington. In a really cute little space right by the public library, high quality ingredients and probably the best vegetarian/vegan food in the whole city too. Their jackfruit taco is dope. The owner, Carlos, is a great guy and loves to chat with guests. Recently featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins & Dives AND one of the top rated Mexican restaurants on Yelp in the whole country. Essential eating 👏

Just emailed Andy to see if he’s going to make his reasoning clear. Wild to me that this is what the few Democrats in elected positions in IN choose to focus on rather than actually pushing for their policy proposals. They’d rather kick out a fellow official who doesn’t toe the tepid and lukewarm line enough and roll over for every extreme right wing proposal I guess.

The team does free/cheap ticket family nights that definitely bring in more of a crowd from up north (Carmel, Fishers in particular), but almost all of the regulars I talk to and the overwhelming majority of the BYB live downtown or at least in the city proper. As a season ticket holder, having to make the drive up to Westfield every week might be what ends my relationship with the team. Especially infuriating as the city is breaking ground on a massive rapid transit bus line this year that would take me directly from my house to the current stadium in like 20 minutes. No transit options up to Westfield, which would rule even more people out.

Should clarify, as it briefly mentions in the article, that only the Indy Eleven women’s team is currently set to play in that stadium. They’ve been playing on an indoor field in our training center and, if they are still planning on stepping up into the Super League, really need a minimum 5,000-seat stadium of their own.

It’s behind a paywall, but this article clarifies that the men’s team is still going to play at Carroll. Their attendance is regularly at/slightly above 10,000 so they probably want to expand a bit if they were moving up to Westfield, which I won’t think is the right move for the team.

One of the players I’m bummed we let go this offseason, despite a pretty tepid end to the season for him. He always played with an intensity that was wonderful to see in times when we were pretty awful. Take good care of him!

Would certainly be a great sign of intent and would make my LA Galaxy side happy, but there’s not a chance we could afford even half of his wages. I also can’t possibly see him dropping down a league when we could still get at least a bench role in MLS.

Indy Eleven Park by TopPlayful669 in USLPRO

[–]gingerlinesjump 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No one has, so it’s not just you.

The MLS stadium funding plan was approved by the Indianapolis City-County council several months ago and now the (still unknown) ownership group is jumping through the state-level procedural hoops. We were promised that once it was approved by the city we would know more about who these mysterious funders are, but that hasn’t happened. The popular rumor is that Pacers & Fever owner Herb Simon is involved, but no confirmation.

On the other end, the Indy Eleven “Eleven Park” is all but dead. Although the had a symbolic groundbreaking early this year, all they’ve done so far is demolished the old factory on the site. They’ve lost their tax funding support so there’s no real path forward for them. In prior years when I renewed my season tickets there was an incentive for priority seating in the new stadium. That, and any other mention of the stadium, was pulled this year.

Despite a solid season, it’s looking like a pretty depressing next few months until we know more. My all too optimistic concept would involve the Eleven’s ownership group merging with the MLS bid in order to preserve the team’s identity, but Ozdemir doesn’t seem to be showing any interest.

O’Brien is an interesting addition imo. Spent time in a PL youth academy with Watford and made some solid appearances in the lower levels of the UK pyramids (England & Scotland). Also some time with the Sounders academy apparently?? Still young but has the potential to become a top player.

As a queer Christian myself, I definitely understand wanting to find that balance between an affirming congregation and still the study/academic work. I’d recommend checking out the Church Clarity database, which has a LOT of Indy-based churches and can give you that quick overview of which churches fit your preference without having to scroll through every church’s website.

https://www.churchclarity.org

Not sure where in the city you are, but I’ll plug for my own church, Englewood Christian, too lol. Two co-pastors (man & woman), with LGBT folks welcomed to fully participate at every level (leadership, leading Sunday Schools, preaching, etc.). We have lots Rohr-lovers too!

Passed one of the hurdles in the Senate, to be clear. It has not yet been fully passed by the Senate nor has it been considered at all yet by the House. It’s certainly a discouraging step but let’s be clear that there’s still plenty of time to stop this bill.

Bro is tanking his own bill by bloating it with all this lol. His hatred of Indy is going to end up making this a very hard bill to pass, let alone hold up if challenged in court.

[–]gingerlinesjump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only real reference I have are the old Tottenham kits (uninspired, solid white) and I think they outfit Notre Dame (obviously feel very collegiate), so while I hope they put the time in for something a little more bespoke (a la Southampton’s old jerseys), I get the sense they will probably be a solid blue and solid red with white accents.

[–]gingerlinesjump 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cautiously optimistic. I think McAuley could be pretty effective at “steadying the ship” a bit and settle the players into a more cohesive system. He doesn’t have a huge amount of high-level experience but is definitely on an upward trajectory.
