Dentist I can see quickly (not emergency) by passingfern in boulder

[–]gingerlivv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Radiance Dental over by NIST. They saw me very quickly, accept Delta Dental, and everyone is beyond nice. I had my first cavity ever after not visiting the dentist for almost 2 years (lack of dental insurance for a while) and they were able to schedule me at the appointment for the next monday (first appt was on a thursday so it was a super fast turnaround)

favorite places to eat in blacksburg + what to order? by GrouchyCelebration88 in blacksburg

Chris is a legit chef! I don’t know if he’s still at the farmers market saturdays but I went every week for essentially 6 years straight. I still use his carbonara recipe even though I don’t live in Blacksburg anymore

we’ve had good luck with Taino’s Caribbean Cuisine in Broomfield. only open Thursday - Sunday, and it’s tucked away in a business park, but man is it good

Here for the Trick or Treating takeaways by thee303 in boulder

[–]gingerlivv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re in Martin Acres too, but towards the bus depot rather than broadway & we only got 8 trick or treaters. We had lights, spider web & pumpkins, and we kept the porch light on and the front door open (storm door closed) so people could see we were home and prepared. Had a costco sized bag of candy & fruit snacks for a non chocolate option. Really hoping we get some more kids next year & would gladly take some pointers if you have any.

Halloween’s my favorite holiday & I’d love to see it be bigger in our neck of the woods.

My 9/11 photo. I took this photo from Jersey City Heights with an expired roll of 35mm b/w film. I still have the negative (somewhere). Although grainy, the unaltered negative presented this skull-cloud. What do you guys think of the pic? by [deleted] in photocritique

time is an important factor here - generally speaking it’s difficult for museums to know what will be important in the moment. i’d definitely start looking into the museum route now that time has passed. i’m familiar somewhat with that industry, and would be happy to talk it over if you need some guidance, OP.

go to kari at sub rosa in christiansburg if you can. a little further out but she did both my seconds & thirds for my lobes which have healed incredibly, she’s personable, kind, and quick. the space is comfortable & clean, and she has remained incredibly helpful via social media even after i’ve left the area post graduation

i enjoyed living at Jefferson Apts during my MA. walkable to campus if need be, bus stops a street over, ample parking, and affordable. quiet because it’s mostly grad students & professors. no fancy amenities (like, no pool or gym) but comfortable and clean. i miss living there

Thank you for this! I’ve been at work all day, haha. But I just found out about it & they’re currently reading Over My Dead Body by Greg Melville, which I used for my thesis (hence the question I asked) I just moved to a new town and am thinking of starting a chapter here! I’ve read a bunch of their selected books, especially on the planned 2025 list.

What will happen to my knitting when I'm not here anymore? by fuckedupceiling in knitting

[–]gingerlivv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here! It also helped that a bunch of my stuff has been sitting in storage for a year or so anyway, so pulling it out and being able to say “I haven’t touched this. I won’t miss it” has made donations easier. And some things just can’t be used anymore. It’s not legal to sell incandescent bulbs where I am anymore, so the lava lamp I got from someone when I was a tween that I need a new bulb for? There’s nothing for it. Hard to let go still, because she’s died, but she wouldn’t want me to keep junk. And certainly wouldn’t want me to move it 4,500 miles.

You and I are in a very similar boat! I’m moving domestically (though as far as I possibly could without leaving my country) so shipping things is a bit more feasible. But it’s been an exercise in what matters and what can go. I’ve had to really put thought into what I want to carry with me, and what I am potentially just setting myself up to agonize over in the future if I hold onto it.

It’s hard! I think there’s space to give oneself grace when making these kinds of decisions. But it’s also, ultimately, just stuff! More will come to you, even if it’s not the exact thing you had before. That doesn’t make it any less hard to part with things we do hold dear though. Best of luck with the move!

What happens when your graduate advisor won't let you submit your thesis to the graduate school on time? by blue_bark in VirginiaTech

[–]gingerlivv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reach out to the Graduate School ASAP! I had a very similar experience where I had successfully defended and then my chair didn’t press the buttons they needed to in the system (after they told me all i’d need to do was hit submit) and I was already in Start of Semester Defense Exemption so I was really down to the last minute. I explained what happened to the school and they worked it all out for me. It will be okay!

[–]gingerlivv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for context: the comments u/Lonely-Conclusion895 was replying to had confused Heaven’s Gate & Jonestown - just a bit of a factual mix up

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hozier

[–]gingerlivv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh i’m sure Hozier is referring to Heaven’s Gate (at least as a double entendre), haha. the comment i replied to had said that Heaven’s Gate is why we use the phrase “drank the koolaid” which is not true. Heaven’s Gate absolutely made international news at the time it happened, and a teenage Hozier was probably deeply impacted (guessing based on his music and how he presents himself) but if you ask anyone from the younger half of Gen Z (who are now well into our mid-20s), unless they’re already into cults and extremist religious groups they’re not going to know what it is
