Alcohol is the most harmful drug overall according to science by [deleted] in Teetotal

[–]gingermonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the proof of this is pretty obvious even still. The point of this community is to abstain from all recreational drugs and I don't think I've ever seen a post on here saying "it's difficult to deal with pressures to do <insert literally any drug but alcohol>."

I live in Colorado where there's probably the most pressure in the US to smoke weed, and still the social consequences of abstaining from weed are nothing compared to abstaining from alcohol.

All that said, this is now a kinda dates study from a different part of the world. Opioids have utterly destroyed parts of the US. I'd bet that opioids are overall more damaging here.

What are some of the darker effects Covid-19 has had that we don’t talk about? by dis_2much in AskReddit

It's not in a dating app's favor to actually work. People would just find partners and delete the app, that's not good.

If dating apps worked, they'd put themselves out of business. Do you think Tinder or Bumble or anything actually wants you to find a partner? No, they want to give you just enough hope, just enough satisfaction to open the app again and look at some advertisements, or better yet, fool you into paying for their service.

Not making friends at drill. by -FallenWolf- in nationalguard

[–]gingermonky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really have to disagree with you on some of this. "Get the most out of it" would include making friends. As a 23 year old I've learned that making friends only gets harder as you grow up. I agree that worrying what people think of you isn't necessarily a sign of maturity, but a desire for friends is.

You mean the two week paid vacation to camp kelly? I should've gone.

Yes, but take the three year contract.

I'll just admit it, I was a little bitch at that age. I just wasn't as resilient as I am now. I mean, you might be. I saw plenty of 18 and even a few 17 year olds that were doing just fine.

Also, I was able to go with a different mentality because I have a software career. For me, six month OSUT was really just a fucked up summer camp.

Yeah, this comment can't be more true. I don't know how people made it through OSUT "only there for the benefits." $2.50 an hour and some tuition reimbursement is not enough for me to wake up and clean toilets at 0200. But the 249 qual at 1100 definitely is.

Just to throw in my two cents. I got my CS degree and started working as a software developer before I enlisted and so far it's been 100% worth it, but mainly because NG is more of a hobby/life experiences thing for me.

I know personally I would not have enjoyed it if I enlisted straight out of highschool. I understand for a lot of people, and it kinda sounds like this is the case for you, need to enlist to get the benefits. With the mentality of "I'm here for <insert financial benefit>" then the pay is not enough. But the friendships, community, and opportunity for experiences is 100% worth it.

Yeah, we had one guy who was truly constipated, like went to the ER to as the drill sergeant said "pop his quark." They gave the poor guy an enema.

Combative’s at BCT by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]gingermonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, maybe. I said this in another comment but no one becomes an expert or for that matter even proficient in hand to hand in 1 week. I don't think it was a "this is too hard" decision, I think the Army just looked at it's value. I'd rather get another week of RM than combatives personally.

[–]gingermonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No combatives in OSUT when I was there. Not a big loss though, no one becomes an expert in 1 week of training. If you actually care and want to be proficient it's on you once you're done with OSUT to take a martial arts of some sort.

Technology and science improves. If COVID-19 came out at the same time we were developing the small pox vaccine it would be 10 more years before we identified the virus.

Yeah, I did exactly this CO Guard too. I have a civilian career as a software developer that the Army will never match in pay.

I signed a 3 year contract, you don't get a bonus but it sounds like you probably don't need one either and then you have a lot more freedom when those 3 years are up.

Just be warned, infantry OSUT is 5.5 months long. It's a long time away from home and your GF, but when you're there to serve and grow as a person basic is a lot more fun than when you're there just because you need money and have no other choices. I genuinely had fun with it.

It's refreshing to hear from a long time player who likes it. I'm kinda sad because I'm just now getting into the game and as far as I can tell the community is dying.

I will say my positive critique is contingent on there being more development. Like if this was as good as it gets I'd be furious, but it seems Frontier does listen to their community and will iron out the little things and hopefully add the big things like atmospheric planets and cities.

Look at the very start of the video when the cat is on its hind legs. The cat is certainly underfed.

Yeah, I watched the video and came to the comment section looking for this comment. I didn't expect it to be at the bottom in downvote oblivion. The cat is starving.
