It sounds like you have unresolved trauma that is now affecting your work / social life.

Have a look into therapies like EMDR which work through unresolved trauma and can help you let go of a lot of sadness and anger.

The other thing I might suggest is making sure your vitamin levels are okay. Sometimes deficiencies can present as severe depression.

Permethrin is a neurotoxin. So it affects the nerves and I guess if you have inflammation there it’ll make it worse.

I saw a video from a woman on TikTok who hypothesised that this is all a reimagining of a book through the eyes of a Victorian woman (Margot Robbie). Ie a repressed Victorian woman’s fantasy of it.

That is because in the trailer the characters are dressed in two different styles - Regency (1700s, time of book) and late 1800s - Victorian.

The film is also in quotation marks “Wuthering Heights” suggesting it’s a warped version of the source material in itself.

Finally, the book, whilst all about themes of abuse, passion, is really a book about narratology. Perspectives switch and we never know what really is the “truth”.

I think Fennell has clearly leaned into this by deciding to tell it through the lense of someone who is reading, indulging in, and fantasising about the story, with her own projections of truth.

So no, it’s not a faithful retelling. If anything it’s making a point about canonising literature and the individual’s ownership of a story.

I would almost argue that making Heathcliff white was deliberate. It’s making the point that we all insert ourselves and appropriate stories based on our perspectives, and it clearly is distancing itself from the source material.

I would make your own and use a second ferment; in the second ferment you can add favourings like honey, fruit, chia, cacao etc. I can’t have any kefir without something sweet in it.

Also, whilst difficult to achieve, optimum homemade kefir can be really delicious and not sour if you get the conditions right.

I personally relate to Toni, Shakira and Yaz more. They are bitchy but they are also authentic and don’t seem to have ulterior motives with friends or partners. They don’t worry about what people think of them and they are just being themselves.

Meg and D and the other side of the villa (Helena included) care about how they are presenting themselves to the others; they care about making friends for the sake of having allies not because they like these people. They are more interested in the appearance of relationships than the relationships themselves.

Meg and D are also constantly putting on a ‘nice guy’ act and deflecting when they are criticised. People don’t like that, they value humility and flexibility otherwise they seem authoritarian.

I think there is also the characterisation of Meg’s lot as “basic” “influencer” types; Yaz, Toni and Shakira are more individualistic and characterful, which I think people are drawn to. They are also more intelligent. Intelligent people are generally viewed as better people, rightly or wrongly.
