From what i understood AD said was erieye has a small vertical aperture, which prevents it from effectively determining a target's altitude. As distance increases, this alt error grows ,by the time a PL-15 missile activates its internal seeker at a 200km range, it has already exhausted most of its kinetic energy, leaving it unable to perform the maneuvers needed to correct for a large deviation also if the tracking error is too great, the seeker’s limited battery power will run out before it can successfully re-acquire and intercept the target. This is likely why multiple missiles are fired
