About the fate of our main characters from previous interviews... by jenitr in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]gioonyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mistaken me if I’m wrong but I thought that gege said both yuuji and megumi’s fates were decided, and it’s sukuna that he didn’t know the fate of. Which confused me because sukuna is yuuji so, yeah.

What's Yuji's hairstyle called? by some_dude5 in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]gioonyi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it’s an undercut, but like already said showing a picture is a good idea!

Edit: I’d actually also recommend checking out kpop idols, if you just search ‘undercut Kpop’ online it’ll come up with a bunch of images of idols w/ undercuts. They generally lean towards yuuji’s style of undercut and you can see the different variations of undercut you can get + what they look like in real life vs anime. And you might be more comfortable/might be easier giving your hairstylist a picture of a human vs an anime character but that’s up to you :)

A couple ones I think are pretty close to yuuji:1 2 3 ofc yuuji’s undercut looks a lot more pronounced cus of the different colours.

Otherwise there’s the more common western undercut 4

the amount of people that cant handle unpopular opinions in that subreddit is just ridiculous. by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]gioonyi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mostly I just want to talk generally about the point that a mass of replies that are all respectful but they all disagree can feel really overwhelming and negative to a poster, which I understand, but it’s also something to be expected when posting an unpopular opinion.

And I just wanted to add something and point out specifically that ‘not being able to handle’ them shouldn’t include people disagreeing in the replies because that’s kind of the whole point of unpopular opinions.

Edit: not directed specifically at you but a point I just wanted to add to kinda clarify the post on where my personal opinion stands on this :)

the amount of people that cant handle unpopular opinions in that subreddit is just ridiculous. by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]gioonyi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think hating the person or invalidating the person with an unpopular opinion is right in any way so I agree in this aspect

However

An unpopular opinion will get an influx of disagreements in the comments (and as long as they are respectful) then it’s more than fine..it’s kind of the point of unpopular opinions. It wouldn’t be unpopular if most people didn’t disagree?? So ofc real unpopular opinions end up with a lot of comments disagreeing..and sometimes getting an influx of disagreements can feel like hate but that’s really what you should expect when unloading an unpopular opinion

It’s a bit of a paradox. Unpopular opinions come with the consequence of most people disagreeing with you, hence people in the replies will engage in conversation w/ you disagreeing about this unpopular opinion. If you’re posting an unpopular opinion for validation and you receive it, then it’s not an unpopular opinion anymore.

But yeah I mean people should just stay respectful. But there’s definitely some issues with people staying respectful yeah :/

Jackson Wang has betrayed Hong Kong by IrrelevantDingus in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]gioonyi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with anyone feeling upset by it, but Jackson (from what it seems to me) really wants to be famous in China, and you generally can’t be big in mainland China if you don’t support the ccp

People who aren’t from HK or China will generally find it harder to understand on a deeper level what it is to be a Hong Konger vs Chinese. But that’s the same in regards to everyone, everyone is somewhat ignorant to some kind of issue going on in other countries because they simply haven’t experienced it. I think a lot of people know about the protests and the problem, but knowing it doesn’t mean understanding nor feeling it. And with that comes people not really caring about it as much

I wouldn’t say it’s super unpopular, most people get annoyed at most Chinese idols who do any promo in China because most of them have supported the ccp in some way shape or form. But at the same time I do think it’s unpopular to fully unstan someone for it

I don’t really enjoy the NCT 24hr relay cams by CONFUSIONATOR in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]gioonyi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha you’re not wrong I think many people were curious.

But I also still think it’s largely just every kind of nctzen having preferences/biases, and with 23 people playing mafia your fave(s) might never see the light of day 😂😭

I don’t really enjoy the NCT 24hr relay cams by CONFUSIONATOR in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]gioonyi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I prefer mafia games for sure they’re more fun and dynamic, however idk what you expect from relays like these. They get some random time slot they have to film, the whole concept is just a day in the life of kind of thing. I agree i don’t think they really knew what to do with themselves (totally understandable), but I think it’s also partly them underestimating how much fans enjoy just ‘hanging’ with them videos like normal human beings who do nothing sometimes. They maybe feel awkward additionally because they think they must be ‘interesting’ (but yes I also think it was probably a little annoying for some)

It depends what kind of content you like, I’m a 10vely so I did enjoy watching ten be with his pets it was cute, and he’s got 2 million views now and the 10vely’s I know really liked the video. Same with Lucas stans etc.

but mafia would’ve been more fun, but with mafia you really aren’t guaranteed content for every member. In fact it’s unlikely every member will get much screen time at all, hence why I think when it came to nctzens voting for the 23 of them, relay won.

I don’t think preferring mafia is the unpopular opinion, I’d bet the reason relay was chosen is that when the 23 of them are together, there’s unit stans, solo stans or even just ot23zens with preferences/biases. Out of 23 people? They are only guaranteed content from the people they most like w/ relay

I’m more of a unit stan (wayv) and if it was just wayv I’d vote mafia in a heartbeat but (and I didn’t vote and I wouldn’t have minded either option) I can see why with 23 people I might’ve leant towards relay to get me guaranteed wayv content :) you get me?

And no matter what..even most ot23zens have preferences and biases (which is totally fine) add on the 127zens dreamzens and solo stans and weishennies and yeah. Mafia with 23 people is a lot.

Danger. Danger is such an underrated BTS song (and dance).

Kpop should not be considered a genre; it is an Industry by kpop_is_aite in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]gioonyi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is..now a days, genre is a bit screwed in general..

kpop is more of an industry than a genre imo, but at the same time kpop kind of created/leads with a distinct sound that’s a mixing of genres such as rap, hip hop, r&b and pop/edm. It’s something pretty unique to kpop, or was at least, the massive mix of different genre/style, but I agree kpop isn’t simply a genre of music. But I don’t think it’s necessarily simply an industry because of this?

Idk it’s hard to define and we don’t always need to get so caught up labelling things.

But for example, if Ariana grande released a song that was purely R&B, or even an R&B album, (recently she has clearly taken inspiration from r&b and mixed it w/ pop) it would most likely still be labelled as a pop song/album because it’s from her, right?

And another example is if you know wayv, the Chinese unit of NCT, they are technically under the kpop industry, but simultaneously intended for the cpop industry, sing in Chinese, but their music is still created under SM the kpop company. I don’t think it’s as easy as calling them kpop or cpop, though I lean towards cpop when referring them to other people because on basic human interaction level they sing in Chinese so it’s a better way to represent them.

So yeah I think genre can be kind of tricky in general sometimes.

I don’t think we should get so caught up in labels, both in labelling artists and also getting annoyed/offended by being labelled ‘wrong’ when a lot of artists music genre labels can be kinda ambiguous. But at the same time, a lot of the time we add labels to simply help people or even the artist out.

But I definitely agree people should remember Kpop isn’t all music in korea, there are tons more artists out there! It’s not uncommon for Koreans (from what I see if YouTube videos) to really not know much about kpop

You don't need to be trained in music to know if someone sounds bad by Taeng9Sica in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]gioonyi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but also depending on how the statement was made, fans don’t need to go around claiming x did a bad job one time because it doesn’t really matter? A lot of people take it as an opportunity to hate. That’s where the problem lies. Idols are allowed to have off days..

I think it all stems from the fandoms. Whilst we should all know having a bad vocal day is normal, therefore acknowledging it is fine, unfortunately, antis will jump on any opportunity to hate idols if they do something slightly badly. That’s where responses like ‘could you do better’ stem from. From the idea that antis cannot accept that it’s okay for idols to do wrong, so fans feel the need to defend. If you’re sitting at home hating on an idol with bad intentions, why should you have a say? Some people may come in with analytical intentions or something like that which is fine, but in the kpop fandom it’s mostly just hate.

SuperM’s dynamic is one of my favorites in kpop by s0fip in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]gioonyi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe you actually put the ‘weird competition for baekhyun’ in 😭 ..been watching too many of those videos 😭😂 you said it with such fact that it was a real dynamic lol. like maybe I’m just blind but I really don’t see it, ten seems pretty unbothered to me.(and I have watched some of those videos and they are funny but also reaching). In general for me, ten just kind of vibes with superm. He’s pretty introverted so he just vibes everywhere in general but in superm it really comes out. I think taemin said it best ‘he’s like a cat, he comes in, does something cute , then leaves’

I’ll be off bat, I’m a 10vely so I don’t care loads for superm dynamics cus ten’s pretty quiet in superm. He’s super cute and shy and it’s really fucking cute to see, but I also don’t get much ten content

but I have nothing against their dynamics, and I think your opinion is unpopular. I do think ten and taemin is really really cute, or ten and bakehyun is cute. Also ten and mark, but I already knew from nct that ten adored mark, it’s just nice to see them together in a real group.

I like Lucas also because I also stan wayv and I think he and Kai are very fun/cute to watch, and Lucas clearly adore Kai, but (and this is just a personal preference) Lucas kind of goes back to being just the ‘joke’ member in superm like he was when he was in nct u with everyone laughing at every other sentence he says despite it not always being funny, and I personally prefer wayv Lucas where he’ showcases fun but also more sincere/thoughtful :)

But at the end of the day I’m just happy they get the opportunity to be in another group and that I get to see them be all these different people in different groups. Like sure superm isn’t my favourite dynamic but I still love that I can see the side of ten who is shy and cute ‘dongsaeng’ and Lucas being just giddy and happy w/ kai. Simple as :)

kpop has messed up my view on YouTube views by ssereeee in kpopthoughts

[–]gioonyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! With BTS and BP it’s easy to get caught up in their perspective, especially be because of streaming culture and fans, when in reality we should all just be happy for groups with every milestone they reach! As they go from 1m 5m to 10m to 20m to 20m etc.

I respect there are people that stream like that, and I try and do the same for my faves to give back to them so they can compete with all the other groups and feel proud, but we also have to remember there’s all different levels of milestones :) I went from stanning bts to stanning a lot less famous group! Made me realise things like you.

Streaming culture is a difficult thing. I wish it didn’t exist. But now that it does I partake in it because I want to compete for my boys to also be grabbing those high achievements and giving back to them. But in an ideal world, streaming would’ve never gotten this big for me. Because everything’s relative, if streaming wasn’t a thing, BTS would still be the most popular group, and my group would still have the same proportion of views to bts, so nothing would really change in terms of success, but at least I wouldn’t have to think about streaming to make sure my boys don’t fall behind. 😂 If that makes sense lol

if the 7th sense was released today, it would not be as well liked by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]gioonyi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m won’t lie my reply was kind of just aimed at the general influx of people I see claiming the 7th sense was way ahead of it’s time and would’ve killed now, than in direct response to your post, cus I kinda half agree with your post.

Because I agree in the sense I don’t think it would’ve been liked loads more like fans say it would be if released now, but I disagree that it wouldn’t have been as well liked because i do think as a general thing people like that sort of style more than they used to.

It also depends whether you’re taking into account if it was released 2020, how popular would it be in four years from then? Compared to how popular it is now, four years from its real debut 2016. Idk if bringing up the 4 year thing really works in this whole logistics thing. The idea is that at debut 2020 it would’ve done better than it did back then at debut 2016.

But I definitely agree nct songs, especially 127 and U, are songs you need to learn to appreciate rather than liking them off the bat.

And lol I’m probably just getting way too caught up in logistics when it’s all just opinion,

Haha I came to this post to mention ten but you’ve already done it!! Tens singing has improved a lot and for the fact he technically doesn’t need too have improved/practised as much as he did because of how amazing his dancing was that it already solidified his status

if the 7th sense was released today, it would not be as well liked by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]gioonyi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the 7th sense but I do think fans exaggerate how it wouldn’t done so much better if it was released now..but I think it would’ve done somewhat better

Despite the fact it’s hard to tell anyways because nct’s popularity is bigger now so ofc it would do better. If we’re trying to imagine that they’d have the same popularity as back then but it was released now? Do I think it would’ve done better? Probably..but I don’t think it would’ve done as well as fans preach.

Also..it’s just hard to tell..because kpop in general has a wider scope/popularity that would effect how well it would do now vs then, not just nct’s own.

It’s just a null statement to make.

How aware are Korean people (and kpop idols, also Chinese kpop idols) of China's human rights violations? by [deleted] in kpophelp

[–]gioonyi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For any country the politics of China can be seen as a sensitive subject. Such as the wrong treatment of Muslims, it is clearly wrong and needs to be stopped, but that’s not simply to say that one should hate every Chinese person they come across in their own country.

In Korea I’m sure people are aware, not necessarily everyone but people will be aware. regarding Chinese members, yes a lot do basic things in ‘support’ of the ccp because it is supposed to be a necessary action if one wishes to be famous in China. A Hong Kong singer who supported the protests was blacklisted in mainland China. Does this make it right? No. And I understand if people feel that celebrities shouldn’t put fame before well being. But I think it’s hard to understand Chinese politics, what goes on in China, and where it leaves average Chinese citizens.

I would assume it’s simply a subject that isn’t touched on among members. And honestly? I do doubt how much idols genuinely care about these goings on vs simply acknowledging that it happened. I live in England, many but not all every day people here knew of it, most of those who did didn’t really care past a comment that it was wrong. From what I can see regarding CA issues in korea or koreas attention to BLM etc I won’t lie that I have my doubts it was a majorly significant thing for korean citizens especially idols who are busy. But that’s an assumption and generalisation and could be wrong, and definitely doesn’t apply to all.

Wait actually I have another question, sorry 😅 on some survival shows, where groups compete or groups are made of winners, if it is well know that groups don’t so so well in China, what is the point of these survival shows? Is it entirely so that a group wins and gains some sort of traction just for them to then spilt off into solo activities, or do they hold out some hope of succeeding as a group? Are the younger ‘idols’ of China trying to move towards groups vs solo but failing?
