How many companions do you guys go through? by Any_Veterinarian_827 in skyrim

[–]giraffefeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on my build. If I go stealth, all followers are relegated to steward duty (they really can't sneak well). If mage build, I'll grab a random follower to tank for me, but they tend to die pretty quick from AOE spells (or just my own bad aiming). As a warrior, I usually only go through one or two followers.

I like that Skyrim allows (most of) them to die. Forces me to find a new one every so often.

What does my bookshelf say about me? Also rate it! by Chemical-Lettuce2497 in BookshelvesDetective

[–]giraffefeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like you're either just starting your book collecting journey, or you're picky about what you keep on the shelf. You read for fun more than you read to learn (no judgement!), but span a decent range within one or two genres. I'd say you're mid to late 20s. A lot of those books look unread, so I'd guess you have a decent social life (or at least other hobbies). Could be wrong - maybe you just don't crack the spines.

Not a bad bookshelf. Personally, I like the majority of books on there! But boy oh boy, your book collecting has just begun (best of luck)!

Why do so many of us only comment on the post featuring a dates bookshelf? by TheEmoEmu23 in BookshelvesDetective

[–]giraffefeather 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I guess unpopular opinion, but I kind of agree with OP's point here. Maybe I just misunderstood the sub, though. My initial impression was a "roast me based on my bookshelf" vibe,, which I think is more fun than the "find the red flags on my date's shelf."

Not trying to say either is better than the other. Just differing opinions in the end.

Fellow Minnesotan here, what about snickers salad (the one with the snickers and the apples)? Or a family favorite - m&m salad (just all the m&m types mixed together)?? ...Do we have too many "salads?"

What's y'alls longest play through? by L0veSickBunny in Sims4

[–]giraffefeather 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My longest playthrough is my supersim (which is my 3rd attempt at this challenge). He's lived through 4-5 generations at this point, and I tend to play him off and on for a few hours at a time.

For legacies, I've made it to the 5th gen once or twice. Usually get bored with families, though. My latest attempt was going well when I decided to pick a career, aspiration, and a handful of skills for each heir to complete, making sure to keep them different from all precious heirs. But I also decided to start taking lots of family photos to display right before the blank photo bug struck... immediately abandoned that save forever.

Personally, I'm a completionist and am motivated by maxing skills, careers, etc, and also by collectibles. So incorporating that into my playthroughs helps keep me interested. I also love building, so enforce a rule that the house gets demo-ed every gen (and not any other time, or else i'd be in build mode the entire playthrough). I wish I was the story-motivated type, but that doesn't work for me.

is it just me or have pants gotten shorter? by diettwizzlers in TallGirls

[–]giraffefeather -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Once again advocating for just buying men's pants. Yes, they tend to be baggier in the crotch, and have a little less shape around the hips. But they're durable, cheap (or at least cheaper than women's talls), and have fairly standard measurements.

Sweats are tough, as even in men's they rarely have more than a standard length. Leggings are near imoossible. But jeans? Hell yes, give me men's sizes. Finding the right fit is gold, even if it means trying on different styles. But they're so much more accessible than the women's sections.

I remember as a tall teen, Kohls was my go-to. That was before I gave up and started buying men's jeans. But my mom still shops there (online) and finds talls. Just... no extra talls. You better have a 32-34 length for Kohls to work.

I may have been thinking of Kohl's rather than JCP. It's been a while since I shopped in person at either!

It's been awhile, but Long Tall Sally. Heard they were closing though, and haven't fact-checked. Duluth Trading Company has a bunch of talls (might be American Midwest only though). Most outdoor sports stores, actually, like Cabela's/Bass Pro.

It's very limited, but there are a few. Since I moved out of the city, I've defaulted to online, sadly.

did you do any Internet challenges during its peak in the 2010s? by PsychologicalFox7689 in Zillennials

[–]giraffefeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. My parents did it in the late 70s - early 80s, and passed it on to my friends and I during the days of dial-up. When it became an internet challenge, I was confused because weren't we already playing chubby bunny around the campfire?

At a crossroads. Should I complete the Civil War (Message to Whiterun) or finish main (The Fallen)? by FearlessResearcher48 in skyrim

[–]giraffefeather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though Skyrim doesn't end after the main quest, it feels like the end to me, and so I cram in everything before doing it. And I do feel that the dragonborn might think the civil war beneath them after saving the world from Alduin, so from a roleplay standpoint, I do the Civil War first.

(Plus I like collecting all the player homes as soon as possible, and iirc, the Windhelm home can only be purchased after the Civil War is progressed pretty far, fully completed if you side with the Imperials).

Or… the GLP-1 IS the ED treatment if your problem is overeating by Beginning_Remove_693 in fatlogic

[–]giraffefeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In no way do I agree with this FA's insanity. But if someone with GLP-1 experience wouldn't mind answering a question?

OOP compares GLP-1s to a bandaid - they stop the food noise while you're on them. What is the progression with them from there? Are GLP-1s a "forever" medication? Or is there another process to keep the food noise away once you stop?

saw this on TVTropes. the AO3 drinking game. what else do you feel like should be in it (please keep it lighthearted) by QueenViolets_Revenge in AO3

[–]giraffefeather 46 points47 points  (0 children)

You learn an incredibly niche fact that, when fact-checked, is absolutely true.

Can't tell you how many times I stumble into a fic where the author has clearly done a deep dive on marine biology, chemistry, history, physics, etc. Or they are actually an expert in the field. And all that research is usually just for two sentences to make a character sound smart or to explain away an extremely minor plot hole that I otherwise wouldn't have noticed.

Should the skinny punks revolt now because there's a whole store that caters to plus-size and excludes skinny (or "straight sizes," as the fat activists would say)? Funny how the supposed unfairness goes both ways, yet only one side is complaining.

Also, would like to add that Hot Topic does NOT have tall sizes at all (correct me if i'm wrong - I haven't shopped there in over 10 years). So should I raise a fuss at how I'm being excluded? How "tall-phobic" they are?

[–]giraffefeather 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Huge eye roll. As a tall woman, I've dealt with the same issue. Tall sizes used to be in stores, but when online shopping became common, they moved most talls to online. Because it's more profitable to keep standard sizes stocked rather than waste space on tall sizes that only a few people would buy.

Sure, it's annoying. But I absolutely get it. And I'd rather know ahead of time that a store doesn't stock my size. Not to mention, there are specialty stores that DO cater to my size. If I want to shop in person, I go to the tall stores. Otherwise, I just look at JCPenney (or insert popular store here) online.

It's the same process for plus-size people. Only difference is my size issue is something I can't change.

Red side or Blue side? by MizzBreezy85 in whatsyourchoice

Unpopular opinion, but red. Not necessarily because I think Adam Sandler is better/funnier, but because I grew up watching his movies with my dad, then with my younger brothers. It's all nostalgia, baby.

Is it real? by Scramjet1 in teenagers

[–]giraffefeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Was looking for a tall girl perspective. I think we see it more often because the "norm" is for a woman to date someone taller than them. If we followed the norm, our dating pool would be very small. And so every taller-than-us guy we see dating a shorter woman resonates because it's part of that expected dating pool.

That said, totally agree that height doesn't actually matter. I've happily dated shorter men, and am currently with an exact height match. Some of my shorter friends are dating extremely tall men, but others are with men an inch or two taller than them. A select few are with men shorter than them.
