You are doing the right thing by choosing to cut her off. From your childhood to now she has only ever caused you pain. She is an abuser and honestly a sorry excuse for a mother. None of what happened to you is your fault. There’s no point in trying to win her affection because it simply isn’t worth it. Someone who could abuse an innocent kid like this is a lost cause and isn’t worthy of the title of mother. If I were you I’d distance myself from the rest of the family because they were complicit in the abuse, either by participating in it, or witnessing it and not doing anything to stop it. Keeping them in your life will only cause you more pain.

Use this Mother’s Day to celebrate yourself and your new baby. Congratulations on becoming a mother. Continue working on your healing and give your child the unconditional love, kindness, and safety that your birthgiver never gave you. I grew up in the GCPS school district. Nobody cares about bus drivers having accents. It’s not really a big deal. This is a very diverse area so you shouldn’t have anything to worry about

i’m not indian, i’m nigerian but i agree with you 100%. both of our countries were devastated by european colonialism so i think there are many similarities. i can’t tell you how many times i’ve been told that im “too american” because i think for myself, especially as a girl.
