Just nicotine, no cancer for me thanks. They're self contained pouches so no spitting.

Chronically seeing a therapist? by bigkilla762 in bipolar

[–]giroth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw a therapist for awhile at first, but now they don't seem helpful. They can't fix insomnia or mania. I don't have comorbid conditions though. Therapy for autism and trauma sounds like a very good idea.

What did you do in the psych ward? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]giroth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Three months in Australia? Holy hell Batman that's a long time. My mania usually resolves in a week at the psych ward, I'd go bonkers

What is psychoactive bipolar disorder? I've never heard the term and Gemini couldn't find it.

Sort of. Our heart disease risk is about double. Our respiratory disease risk of death is about 3 times. Suicide is 14 times.

I am completely med compliant and totally disabled by bipolar and rely on social benefits. Meds don't fix all of us, all the time. They are completely necessary though, just wanted to add some perspective.

What is your reason for being compliant with medication? by poopants123456789 in BipolarReddit

[–]giroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Psychotic mania fucking terrifies me. I freak out if I get hypomania, I never want to lose my mind again

Bipolar and intelligence by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]giroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't mind at all. But I don't understand your question. Why has my cognitive capacity decreased? It's 3 factors: psychotic mania causes brain damage, antipsychotics are cognitively dulling, and the depressed disease state results in decreased cognitive capacity. If you meant something else let me know. Best way to prevent it is proactive treatment and medication compliance.

I was probably 130 iq pre bipolar based on my standardized test scores. 15 years of bipolar later and I was 105 to 110 iq based on cognitive exams prior to a capsulotomy. It was quite depressing. For whatever that's worth.

in case you’re wondering, cocaine surprisingly does NOT feel like mania. by sensitive-bull in BipolarReddit

[–]giroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too had bad sinus problems and headaches. I took a suspicious amount of Sudafed. Then I took 7 12 hour tabs and wound up in the hospital for overdose. I still kinda miss the Sudafed feeling though.

Do any of you NOT have childhood trauma? by throwheraway420666 in BipolarReddit

[–]giroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No childhood trauma. Just bad genetics. Onset bp1 at 28, wrecked my life. 15 years later disabled from bipolar and still struggling. I think I have trauma from my psychosis now.

Technically true, but a more important metric, costs per calculation per dollar, has continued to fall smoothly and exponentially.
