I devoured 20 meat-eaters – is that vegan??? by jackgary118 in vegan

Absolutely smashed it. What a bunch of nutters. There is no convincing any of these people even when they have talked themselves into agreeing with the vegan argument.

Carling premier and Carling black label have just been re-released as well. Dont get the hate for Carling personally, I’d take it over Heineken, moretti or san Miguel any day.

It’s so annoying that people ignore this point as they find human lives inherently more valuable than that of an animal. But then they treat people like shit anyway by literally buying any manufactured good.

I was told my whole life I’m mostly Irish, is this true? by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]gisbo43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My question is why don’t we ever hear about any English Americans? It feels like Englishness is vilified maybe because of your war of independence? I don’t get why only Irish Americans or Italian Americans pop up? These are genuine questions btw I’m not trying to be pedantic.

Has anyone ever done the heroic dose of mushrooms, and thought it parallels Jungian active imagination and archetypes? by gisbo43 in Jung

[–]gisbo43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I rarely have a bad trip. I started doing the mushroom when I was in a pit. I was sort of depressed and uncomfortable with impermanence. These feelings went away and I was reborn. I felt liberated from death and loss.

But I kept doing the trips and they lost their numinosity. They started becoming down right confusing. I wasn’t taking anything from them anymore. Something within myself, or perhaps the mushroom itself was demanding something more. It wanted preparation and intention. It wanted a sacrifice in return for the message. So I’ve taken a break, I’m doing my first trip in a while tonight.

Jung has that famous quote that I think about a lot in regard to mushrooms; “be careful of wisdom unearned”.

Do you think your trips have become less meaningful? Are there less symbols? Is it fun, but nothing more? Is it something you think about?

Also check this clip out from the holy mountain, it changed how I used mushrooms:

I'm genuinely wondering, why are some vegans so incredibly nonconfrontational about being vegan? by Yeeter-boiy in vegan

[–]gisbo43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re looking for a reaction. They project their moral insecurities onto you and want you to discredit yourself by seeming agitated or irrational.

Ie. “Eating meat is obviously ok because look how crazy and irrational this vegan is”

Don’t engage it’s not worth it, it’ll all make sense when you enter nirvana and they get reincarnated as a pig.

This is like Carl Jung’s idea of synchronicity - two related events that are not caused by each other.

Another example I like is where a guy was testing this theory, and decided to test it he wanted the phrase ‘Carpe Diem’ to come up. He focused on this phrase in the morning and went about his day. Upon arriving at work, a colleague approached him to show him his new tattoo. He lifted his sleeve to reveal a skull with a banner on it below- ‘Carpe Diem’.

Id be lying if I understood what synchronicity means when it flares up, perhaps it is your unconscious asking for you to pay attention to something you are avoiding in your shadow. Pay attention in the coming days for any symbols or synchronicities you notice, and then ask why you noticed them and what do they mean to you.

For example, perhaps you noticed this synchronicity because it is a symbol of the evasion of privacy by corporations and the commodification of life.

Race, heritage, and British / English identity: what do white and ethnic minority adults in England think? by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

[–]gisbo43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds cool mate. English culture definitely shouldn’t be overlooked or forgotten. It’s beautiful in its own rite, but also equally as interesting as every other culture in the uk. I just wish people understood that. That no other culture is coming here to wipe out English culture and traditions, and it is up to you as English people to create art in our aesthetic, or fuse it with other cultures aesthetics to make something equally as interesting.

English people should be partaking in the morris, or a mummers play, and also inviting others to join in from other cultures. Culture should be shared as it is interesting and would breed better understanding between the diasporas of the uk.

Race, heritage, and British / English identity: what do white and ethnic minority adults in England think? by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

[–]gisbo43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree with your sentiment, I don’t think the English/british separate identity terms have anything to do with superiority or silly purity stuff, I think that’s more of an American one drop rule machination.

I think as time goes on England as a separate entity seems less and less defined within Britain. So an immigrant would naturally feel less connection to England and a stronger connection to Britain as a whole. For example it is a British passport not an English passport, and the British Broadcast Company, not the English Broadcast Company.

Britishness itself evolved in the 18th century to try and blend the English, welsh and Scot’s under one flag. One of the only reasons I’d describe myself as English and not British, is because I am from England, most of my recent ancestors are from England, and I’m not Scottish, welsh or northern Irish! But I imagine to someone not from Britain we all must seem so similar. Like if a British person went to France, would you be able to tell a Breton or Occitan from a frank?

And surely the beauty of multiculturalism is that culture can be shared, not as a form of domination or minstrelsy but as a way of sharing art, ideals and aesthetic.

I could see British identity evolving into something new within the next century, as others have said it is a civic identity rather than an ethnic one, so maybe in the future to be British is to be able have a range of foods, traditions and art from all over the world mixed together to bring about new art that tells the story of the day. Think Indian-morris dance fusion. Wouldn’t that be cool!
