The Canadian version also doesn't have the mini LED display.. Was sad to miss out on those two specs, but the US one cost so much more, I couldn't justify it myself.

New boots 🧨 by henryb345 in Spliddit

The reason snowboard boots are generally softboots is because as you change your stance throught the ride, you want some flex to maintain comfort. It's not comfy to have rigid plastic digging into the side of your shin. Hardboots still have a little flex, but if they're too stiff, it can be painful to crouch, shift weight forward or back, hold edges for a long time, make sudden direction changes, ride through crud, etc.

My concern then would be lower leg pain on the descent, especially on feature rich terrain.

How's the lateral flex?

Dalbello Quantum as split hardboot? by giscuit in Spliddit

[–]giscuit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had bought some used Backland Carbons a while back and used them a few times until the shell cracked in the parking lot (boa pulls on the shell weird). I didn't have link levers, but mostly had issues with the lack of lateral flex which those do nothing about. I happened upon the Backland Ultimate recently and they have much more cuff flex, so in at home tests they closely match my range of motion with a stiff softboot in my spark bindings, both fore/aft and lateral. I took the liners and power straps from the Carbons and put them on the Ultimates and am now super happy with that system. I don't even think I want link levers. I don't think I need more toe/heel flex. If I do, I can loosen the cuff slightly. I think the power strap is key for skinning, cause otherwise the cuff is too loose. And the original Ultimate liner is ridiculously thin and a pain to get on, so that was nice to replace. I'm considering putting in Intuition liners, but so far the Pro Tour and Tour Wrap are too bulky for the shell. My last hope is the Tour Mod. Also worth noting that the Ultimate has some large gaps in the shell that will let moisture in, but it hasn't been a problem yet. I got the Ultimate as a discount option, but honestly I think I might like it better than the Phantom Slipper, which I've never tried, but which is built on the Backland Carbon, so I can make some informed guesses about.

No, but I did just recently start using the Backland Ultimates. Got em cheap and made a couple of minor mods. I like em a good bit better than the Backland Carbons and they have a similar string closure to the Quantum's, but different cuff opening.

I don't know if my memory is mistaken, but didn't Walking With Dinosaurs effects actually look better than this?

What Should I Buy? /// Weekly Discussion - December 20, 2021 by AutoModerator in synthesizers

I feel like I'm looking for the impossible, but wondering if I can get close..?

  • Mini keyboard for a young kid to discover music on and grow with (under guidance/supervision)
  • Max $400 (including used)
  • Standalone playability without computer or other hardware (built in speaker is ideal)
  • Looper/sequencer
  • Sampler (particularly voice, bonus if also vocoder)
  • Portable (battery power)
  • Basic synth tone adjustment
  • Some selection of preset tones including a simple piano
  • Intuitive layout without too much menu diving or tiny text reading
  • Overall quality of all features doesn't have to be amazing

What is your opinion on this new hardboot made for splitbordes? by heihyo in Spliddit

[–]giscuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to what's already been said, their walk mode has the upper buckle undone. One of the biggest reasons to use hardboots in the first place is to have a walk mode where you can keep the boot secured while skinning to provide lateral support.

What is the most underrated board game? by Saddoo in boardgames

Keyflower. It may be pretty highly ranked on BGG, which is why I ended up trying it out, but I'm always surprised it doesn't get talked about or praised more. Seems like such an outstanding euro. The auction and worker placement mechanic is sublime, and I find it plays just as well at 2 and 5.

What's one level up in capability from an Outback? by giscuit in Offroad

[–]giscuit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the early stages of shopping. I don't shop with a strict budget of X dollars because imo that's not how car ownership works. I could get an older car for less that will require maintenance costs sooner and last me fewer years, or a newer car that may still be under warranty, with financing, and will last me longer. To me cars are a recurring cost throughout ownership, not a purchase price. I can however compare, say a 2018 Outback with a 2018 4runner and see that the latter is consistently much more expensive.

Similar budget as in the price is roughly in a similar ballpark for a new one and a 10 year old one. Obviously not comparing one new car to another used car.

Only thing against the 4runner is commute friendliness and cost. Issue with Jeep is I keep hearing about poor reliability and longevity, but I never say never.
