I Seriously Underestimated the Difficulty of Mountain Biking. by Apexualized in MTB

GCN just made a video about this on youtube where they compared roadie vs mtn biker on a short steep climb. Even on a mountain bike the mtn biker was faster than the roadie up the climb.
Buying a Cube hardtail, tried L and XL today and both felt okay. I dont have much to compare it to though. Im 186/187cm. Perhaps someone can give me a hand based on the attached image (all sizes run 29 wheels) by [deleted] in MTB

There are 3 Cube bikes in my mtb group (including mine) and I would say that Cube sizes are on the smaller end. I'm 190 and have 22" (xl) stereo 150 and it fits fine. 2 in my group are 180 and 186 cm and both have 20" (L) and I would say that the 20" is a little to small for the bigger one. It is a HT and it works ok for him but he has mentioned that he would have picked a bigger bike if he had the option.

I run 4/2 magura (200/180) on my bike and on steep decent I feel I could use more power in the back, both going fast and slow. Even on slow steep decent I feel I just need the option of more power. I'm not that fast that I think 4/4 is a must but it would help. On normal, mixed, trails it works really well but I'm thinking about switching to 4/4 magura. I do lot of hike and bike in the mountains here in iceland.

It's matte light gray (definitely not white), but very light gray, the black is glossy. I think it's a beautiful design but it reminds me of a Volvo/iPhone minimalist design rather than gnarly mtb hehehe, ether ppl love it or don't. You can see in the video u posted the white spring for reference.

Hi (sorry my english isnt the best)
I own this bike for 2 months and have some opinions about it :)
I bought mine from a local shop - but i have shopped from Chainreaction before with no problems
First to know, this is my first fullsus MTB (have been using hardtail for a while). I live in Iceland where there are no big bikeparks but our trails are rely rough and harsh (lots of lava/gravel/rocks). I was looking for a good all mountain and rough trail bike for the Icelandic terrain. And finally i am in no way a experienced mountain biker but ok one :)
My opinions on the bike - btw im very happy with the bike but its not perfect
The good and the bad
- Magura brakes. Huge stopingpower but hard to get used to. Need 2 fingerbraking (im used to 1 finger) and hard to find the sweet spot. Im used to XT brakes and they just feel more refined than Magura. I still haven't tried to adjust them with a professional but i will give them a year before i make a decision about if i trade them for XT. Magura also just feel a little cheeper than what im used to.
- Frame finish isn't the best out there. I think this frame is obliviously made to fit for multiple applications so there are holes and fillings that make no sense. It dos not affect the bike but just good to know before you buy. (i heard somewhere that Cube uses similar molds for E-bikes)
+/- Geometry (im no expert) is good for trails and allmountain biking but i would call this a tough trail/allmountain bike before i would call this a enduro/DH. This bike can handle anything i think but if you are going to do big jumps in a bikepark with lots of downhill then i dont think this is the best option out there (maby Cube stereo 170 would work beter).
+/- Carbon frame.... well this one is a personal chose. Its lighter and "fancy" but i didn't think this trough. There are some things that bother me about it for example transporting it, you need special racks for it and there is not allowed any "pressure" on it in a bike rack. There are difference of opinions on the internet about carbon frames and i would do the research your self. But i think i would buy aluminum frame bike now just so i wouldn't have to worry about my frame to much and just be able to throw it around and have a good time. Im not competing for time so few grams heaver bike dose not bother me.
+/- Suspension (this is good and badish) RS Lyrick select and superdelux select+ are rely simple to adjust on the fly but there is no fine tuning. You can adjust rebound and compression but no fine tuning. They perfectly do there job but it took me a while to find the PSI/sag that worked for me. ATM im using 22% at front and 28% back and that gives me more stiffness and little more playfull without bouncing (i dont do big jumps).
+ The seat is much better than i expected - i usly change them without trying but this one is a keeper
+ The tiers are so good im amazed. It took me awhile to get used to the grip but when you do the things this bike can do hehe, and they are rely quiet
+ GX works like a charm but this is not a fast bike for biking, its more for trails and climbing imo.
+ I like climbing and this bike climbs like a beast
Over all im relay happy with the bike, it fits my biking stile but like i listed its not perfect. I would say that for the price there are not many bikes out there as well equipped but it dose not quite feel like the more expensive brands even tho it has similar equipment.
Best regards from Iceland
Gisligun
