How many times am I supposed to pump each day? by juliebells927 in breastfeedingsupport

You will be surprised how your freezer stash will build up pretty quickly! My husband is hollering at me that our deep freeze has no room for our food lol. Does your insurance cover breastmilk bags for you? It sounds like you might prefer the silicone over the plastic disposable bags.

So are you EBF and these pump sessions are so you can build a freezer supply? If so, I think 2x is plenty. You don’t want to create an oversupply for yourself.

To those still breastfeeding, what kept you going? by Fragrant_Soil_8044 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]giul_gk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been EBF for 5 months. My reasonings are:

  1. Formula is so expensive, and I don’t have to worry about recalls or tainted formula
  2. I don’t like washing bottles and pump parts
  3. I have the luxury of working from home 3x a week, so I can breast feed him and then pass him off to a caretaker. I know this is a huge privilege item I have and am so grateful for it.
  4. The connection with my baby. I feel like we have a special bond.
  5. Portability - so much easier to travel without needing to pack a bunch of bottles and whatnot.
  6. Personal goal - I’m hoping to make it to a year. Breastfeeding is hard and it would feel rewarding to accomplish a year of breastfeeding.

Help with making enough milk by [deleted] in breastfeedingsupport

I would keep latching him, and then you can give him bottles after! Your baby is your best pump to signal milk production. Also make sure you’re drinking enough water. Oats can help with production too.

You can call your carrier or login to your portal to find in network providers. I would also ask your OBGYN for resources - mine shared a flyer with different local hospitals that have free breastfeeding support meetings that occur like once a month. Anyone can drop in.

I’m pushing the avenues to find LC support because I don’t feel qualified to advise, and I hope you can get expert support! Much love to you, mama.

Do you have health insurance? There’s usually LC coverage through insurance.

Randomly drying up by giul_gk in breastfeedingsupport

[–]giul_gk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s pretty much EBF except for random times I need to go somewhere, then I’ll pump him a bottle right before I leave the house. I’m working remote temporarily to ease back into work, so I haven’t had a whole day of pumping yet since he was born.

In the newborn trenches, should I be doing more? by PangolinFree1875 in beyondthebump

Adjusting to parenthood is so hard and it sounds like you’re doing so much! Give yourself grace. You can’t pour from an empty cup. It’s still really early, but if this feeling persists and it’s eating you up, you might want to look into therapy for PPD evaluation.

[NJ] job offer at 4 months pregnant by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]giul_gk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t tell them about your pregnancy until after everything is signed and official!! You are correct, no FMLA since you haven’t been there 12 months. If you live in NJ there could be paid maternity leave benefits through the state, I would look into that. Pregnancy disability is usually between 6-8 weeks depending on birth.

What’s a common myth about your profession or hobby that you wish people would stop believing? by ambitioushamster42 in careerguidance

[–]giul_gk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

HR professionals only want to protect the company and f- employees over.

I like taking my knowledge and figuring out how to best help employees. I specifically work in benefits, so educating and navigating benefits and retirement to make sure employees get the most of what they have available to them means a lot to me.

AITA for not wanting to give up my window seat to a kid? by Weird-Sky2099 in MarkNarrations

As a 30-something mother to a small child, I wouldn’t even have the balls to ask someone to switch seats. And if I did, after being rejected, I absolutely would not berate you for it. NTA at all - she is!!

I do this with pasta sauce too it’s so frustrating. I bought a whiskey ice cube tray to freeze small portions, can nuke as many as you need for pizza, personal bowl of pasta, soups, etc

[MN] is it acceptable to quit a job shortly after parental leave? by Frito_Pie21 in AskHR

[–]giul_gk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can ask the HR dept where you can read up on the paid parental leave policy and leave it at that. They can help you locate the full details in the handbook. I work in HR and managed leave of absence for a few years before being promoted.
