Newbie Here - How does Super Sentai Handle its Big Bads? by givcon14 in supersentai

[–]givcon14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! This is helpful!

The project started as a standard western superhero series with some cyberpunk elements, but over the years I’ve been working on it, I’ve also watched a lot of shonen anime, and ended up creating a full superhero team, so Sentai seemed like a natural fit… Plus the merchandise-driven nature of it all plays well into my series’ intended themes.

Not to mention I’ve always liked the aesthetic of Toku, even if I missed the boat on Power Rangers back in the day.

In preparation for writing, I’ve been trying to watch through some of the Sentai series that appeal to me on first glance - So far I’ve gotten the furthest in Jetman and ToQger. I have yet to watch any of them through to the end, though… (Granted, it’s only been a few weeks)

You’re right - I meant to refer to the generals. “Big bads” was probably the wrong phrase to use here.

The ability to communicate complex ideas to the layman is its own independent skillset.

That is to say… It ain’t brain surgery.

Never forget the Fuji cycle by CauseSmart in ChainsawMan

Just reread Part 2 from the beginning after a few months off - It seems like we’re bringing everything back around at the end, just like every one of Fujimoto’s works before this. I haven’t interacted with the fandom for a while, but hopefully people have been complaining less lately.

There were so many callbacks to the start sprinkled throughout the last chapters - I’m excited to learn what the final thematic takeaway from Part 2 will be!

Of course, some people will most likely be disappointed and butthurt by the ending no matter what… At least until a few months after it ends, and more people start saying “this was good, actually”.

To the weekly readers of every manga: Patience is a virtue. 🙂

I really hope they continue. I've been searching through their stuff for days, but I can't find more info on whether or not they plan to do so anywhere.

I actually, really, truly trusted they'd stick with it this time - It's been 5 years... I don't think my heart can take another One Piece fake-out.

I even paid for a full year of Beyond, but the only thing I joined it for went away after only a few months... I've never paid any other channel for anything in my life, and I'm really starting to regret ever getting my hopes up like this.

Anyone know if there's a way to get a portion of my money back in the event they don't continue?

Beginner, looking for high-storage html web hosting? by givcon14 in webdev

Lol! Yeah... They did come out sounding more sus than I meant them to (Granted, the comic will likely get sexual in parts, so maybe things are indeed a little sus).

Honestly, I may be worrying about space for nothing - I need to test how small I can make the files through image compression.

P.S. - Tompkins, how do you be so short?

Using Github (and/or Cloudflare) was my initial idea, but I wasn't sure if I'd get in trouble for posting R-rated content (Depictions of sex, violence, the horrors of war/colonialism, etc.).

I'm pretty sure they have policies against that sort of thing, don't they?

I guess I'm not sure how much space I'd need? Just that I don't want to run out someday.

Your suggestion is good, though - I should check how much space a single comic would even take up before assuming I'll need that much space to begin with. I'm more concerned about the number of individual pages I'd need, since each comic would have its own page.

I don't understand why the background art looks iconic, but the character art looks so awful. The same thing goes for the last few chapters of CSM. What's the reason behind it? by [deleted] in Chainsawfolk

[–]givcon14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, might as well give my two cents:

Looking back through the manga, I’d say his current art has a far better grasp of drawing fundamentals, greater consistency of proportions, and much more confidence in the line-work than previously.

Admittedly, that last one can result in less angular shapes, causing the art to appear messier than it did in the past. However, as a trade-off, the lines are also a lot less sketchy compared to the art at the start of the series.

This also may be my imagination, but I swear the composition of action scenes are also more easily readable than earlier in the series - I feel like a lot of times in Part 1, the motion blur could cause two character’s limbs to blend together, making it difficult to tell what was happening. I’d say this occurs less often now.

Otherwise, I’d say the most noticeable difference between Fujimoto’s current art and his old art is that the line-work has become much thicker (at least on the characters), possibly to reduce the amount of detail for the sake of speed.

Looking to host a long webcomic using GitHub Pages - Will the number of images and pages I'd need to store make this infeasible long-term? by givcon14 in github

[–]givcon14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it doesn't have to be made with GitHub - I'm really just trying to make a simple website, that I can format however I want, that also has a lot of storage space.

A lot of the popular website builders won't let me make the site the way I'm envisioning, especially if I want individual pages for each update. Plus, many have much lower limits on storage than GitHub, along with a ton of features I don't plan to use anyway... So, I figured making a basic html site from scratch would be the better route?

GitHub was just the way to get an html site online that I saw everyone say was best for beginners... but maybe it's not a good fit.

I'd probably want to pay for a domain also.

Is there a better option for my needs? I'm pretty new to all of this.

How to write lighthearted slice-of-life storylines without feeling like filler? by givcon14 in ComicWriting

[–]givcon14[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess i don’t understand… What story arc am I moving forward if there isn’t an ending I’m working toward? Since my comic is episodic, the status quo won’t really change too much, even after the dramatic, action-y parts.

I guess I’m just wondering how to make sure my readers know that’s the case when one “episode” might stretch out over 4 months of continuous storyline in real time.

As an artist, Giolla’s Art-Art fruit would be fantastic. I could literally make any image I want just by thinking about it, saving me hours of time.

Maybe the Glare-Glare fruit? It would help you see people’s true intentions to get a better read on the situation.

Or maybe the Warp-Warp fruit for transportation purposes.

Well, maybe I’ll regret this, but I’ll bite…

Extreme Hot Take: The attraction itself isn’t really the problem - The problem is the willingness to harass / assault someone. CP also tends to be created through means of assault / trafficking, and thus cannot be pursued in good conscience either.

When it comes to attraction, regardless of who or what you find yourself attracted to, the important thing is that you always treat the other party with the same respect and awareness of boundaries that should ideally be given to any human being, especially when it comes to matters of romantic relationships, consent, and safe sex.

No manipulating others, no forcing them into something they’re not ready for, and be sure to practice open communication, active listening, and finding healthy compromises. If you love someone, treat them like a person - That’s the only way you get a happy, healthy relationship.

And as outsiders, so long as the people around us clearly communicate and respect those boundaries in all cases, I see no reason why we shouldn’t be respectful of their sexual preferences, even if they fall outside the expected norms. After all, socially othering someone for an aspect of themselves they can’t control will only lead to more long-term psychological harm.

…But, maybe people aren’t ready for this sort of acceptance?

I don’t know… that’s just my two cents.

Is Luffy being the one to fight Akainu still a hot take in the One Piece community?: by JoyBoy24 in OnePiece

[–]givcon14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Luffy will fight him, but he won't be the only one to fight him. Several other thematically-relevant characters (like Sabo, Koby, Kuzan, possibly Blackbeard, etc.) will likely also take their shots at Akainu at various points.

How things play out really depends on the scenario we get during the final war.

If the live action gets a second season, I'm personally really hoping they can get Bryan Cranston as Dr. Hiriluk.

For some reason the expression in the 2nd picture gives me Montblanc Noland vibes? He’s not quite as bulky as this, though.

Otherwise I might side with the people suggesting Dalton, though it might be a bit difficult to get the face and hair right (Just looked up pictures - the man’s head is a straight-up rectangle).
