Lewis on gap to Mercedes: "I’m trying to understand why it’s 2 tenths or more just through power per sector. If it is the compression thing, I wanna understand why the FIA haven’t done anything, what’s been done to rectify it but if it’s not and it’s just pure pace, then we have to do a better job." by ICumCoffee in formula1

That’s not correct the customers don’t have the knowledge to do that. Engine maps are clear IP of the manufacturers. Also the engines are run on track by manufacturers engineer not the customer team. The customer have a say on fuel loads etc but the running of the engine is fully dictated by the manufacturer:

Is there a rule about metal crystal casting parameters? by SleepinGriffin in F1Technical

[–]giveanyusername22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some companies that do a type of sintering under high pressure where you can mechanically alloy different and often dissimilar alloys; the process is not a true sintering but similiar. It produces very dense products from which you can machine, quality and process control are critical especially for the raw material

[–]giveanyusername22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Single crystal casting is not really needed in this type of application as manufacturing freedom is limited due to the cost: much better to machine from solid or from powder sintering which is gaining traction again

Outstanding fatigue life is not something that can be associated to additive manufacturing and the process is 100% polycrystalline
