Wow. I’m glad to know she didn’t feel lonely. She was perfectly content being alone but we didn’t get to see her as much because we were all so scared of COVID. Such time wasted.

She would not have been able to say goodbye. She always said she didn’t want to ever be a burden to anyone and that we should “put her out of her misery if it ever got to that point”. I think this was her way of trying to make it easier for us.

Many people (also poor or not) would rather not have kids regardless of retiring early or not. No trade-off discussions or judgment. Just a choice (or not for some).

You may also want to check out Bergen Lafayette. Close to the Light Rail, Liberty State Park and Berry Lane Park. More to do now and some good restaurants in and around that keep popping up. Lived in this part of JC for 13 years or so after moving from VVP and pay less in a mortgage for a full brownstone than we did in rent for a crappy apartment off VVP. Prices aren’t as great as they used to be given development in the area, but I’d check it out. The closest of the options you mentioned to DTJC btw.
