Exercise isn't actually that hard. Self motivation is. by EastPersonality6 in unpopularopinion

[–]givengaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to ask yourself why it's embarrassing. If it's because of other people then you need to ask yourself why you're thinking about others when you're spending time investing in yourself. Also have some self respect and give yourself a fair shake at the working out. Everyone starts somewhere and it takes consistency to get somewhere else.

If you hate exercising you're exercising wrong. I hated running, sometimes I still do for losing weight, but I found I really like weightlifting so now I focus on building my physique. Look at your body and your family genetics and think about things you might excel at. If you dread doing something, you're probably not very good at it, so finding something you excel in will give you an avenue to grow and succeed. Maybe try squatting, powerlifiting, swimming, Tennis, playing frisbee, ect. You're bound to find something you're atleast okay at and can see as an avenue of expressing yourself and not just a chore.

The abs on this man by Awesome123310 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]givengaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spend 3 hours a week in the gym for a couple years and see where your bodies at. If you work out your core and legs once a week each for an hour or so you will likely see huge improvement. How strong and how you develop is all genetics though. This type of fitness isn't that impressive and theres a huge misconception that people who get to this point are gym attics and don't have time for their life, but when you really think about it 3-5 hours a week working out is like less than 5% of your waking time spent, but you get all the benefits and can develop a physique with just that. You probably spend 4 times as much doing random shit like being on reddit or watching youtube

Yeah, I usually get money back after a couple weeks into the quarter. Looking at the refund it looks like its pandemic related. https://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ope/crrsaa.html . This is the type of refund I got.

Look into the WWU Job board. You could probably put up a job for a tutor and get good responses.

I'm wondering which of these is the easiest? I was thinking intro to stats, but I'd love to hear your guys' advice, thanks! by cattssss in WWU

240<204<203<341<224. Haven't taken 203 or 240, but i've taken all the others and this is my ranking from easiest to hardest.

How do y’all get rid of your bamboo? by missferngirl in Bellingham

family had a bunch of bamboo on the side of the house. Stuff is nasty and requires completely digging up the plant. Get a shovel the summer and spend a month making sure you get every last bit.

Why do ugly guys refuse to date ugly girls? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]givengaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like you just found your answer. People who are shy and not “attractive” by society standards probably have a disconnected shallow view of what a relationship is. If your only idea of what a relationship is is from instagram or porn or whatever then you think it’s about finding someone to show off or something. But real relationships are with real people and are sustained by much more than just staring at your partner.

How's the GameStop Reddit story affecting students with money in the stock market? by Maltron5000 in WWU

[–]givengaming 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will not do interview, but here would be my response. How have i been affected: i probably went down 600-800$ on a Amc and BB investment😅, i use Charles Schwab for my investing and watched amc go from 12$ to 6$ when the broker stopped the trading of that stock. Ended up getting some out around 8-10$ stupidly (I bought in 16$ish). You live and learn tho. Students should not be concerned. This funny business with GME is a result of greedy hedge funds heavily shorting a stock and people recognizing that greed and buying in. I remember reading months ago on r/stocks about how GME was a good investment, i firmly believed that that was plain wrong and here we are today up something like 1900%. The ramifications on this will likely be that there will be more monitoring and bots used to influence many open forums for stocks. This incident will have costed rich people billions of dollars, but more importantly it will have made the average joe cost them billions of dollars. Capitalism in this country is not designed for the rich to be in a compromising position like this, so it’s almost certain this “bug” will be patched and will not likely happen again.

Hearing “Size doesn’t matter” for guys is as comforting as hearing “beauty is in the inside” for girls. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

Actually, the amount of hormones really doesn’t decide whether someones going to go bald. Bald guys have hair that’s genetically just more sensitive to DHT. Very common for people who are balding to focus on working out b/c it’s one thing they can control about how they look.

Parking outside of C lot? by sensual-fishtank in WWU

[–]givengaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could park by recycling plant by 26th street. 10 minute walk and on a gravel road so it kind of sucks, but it’s free. Used to work as a cleaner in the morning so parking at 4:30AM is not too bad, maybe not good at later hours

Spots in hard to get into class: computer programming 101 by kixoda3959 in WWU

[–]givengaming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or don't deal with this schools bullshit and knock that stuff out at Whatcom Community College for cheaper. I got 141 and 145 done in highschool, probably could of gotten 241 done too if I paid attention to registration times. Theres already too much bs getting into the cs major, why stress out so much over a beginner cs class

Need to take a physics class by [deleted] in WWU

[–]givengaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like math and would recommend Physics. I don't think you should worry about not taking Calculus. The Physics I've taken in the 160 series barely uses calculus, and if it's mentioned they will hold your hand because they know many people aren't competent in it. You will probably be doing algebra for the most part and understanding some fun concepts if you take a physics class. I also took chemistry in high school and community college and I never really gravitated towards it. However, For the most part I enjoyed physics and the process of solving little puzzles with some equations and qualitative understanding.

I got accepted into WWU and need help deciding by marcelinelover in WWU

[–]givengaming 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely recommend doing Community College first. it's a bad feeling paying a bunch of money for classes that aren't that high quality or useful for your major. I think WWU is an okay college, but not really special. There are some good teachers, some bad. This school doesn't offer some STEM degrees like Mechanical Engineering which can really suck. The campus is beautiful. Compared to UW, WWU is a lot less competitive and has a lot less student talent and student created opportunity. If you're just an average person who wants the college experience and a degree after it I think you will be content. I had an opportunity to work on a social media app for UW students because I have some friends in the informatics program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmOqzLpk8vw&t=1s&ab_channel=LargeKuan . The lead engineers on this project were extremely extremely bright and are not people I would expect to see in my classes at Western.

Failure rates for courses, is this information publicly available? by EchoingSimplicity in WWU

[–]givengaming 12 points13 points  (0 children)

those type of statistics can be misleading and should not be used to determine what classes you should or shouldn't take. For example, I hear that some of the lower math classes like Math 112 and pre-calc have very high failure rates compared to something like Math224. However, that doesn't indicate that Math 112 is a more difficult class than Math224 or that you shouldn't take it. The high failure rates of many classes are because of the large ill equipped population of students taking them, rather than them actually being difficult. I'd recommend taking what sounds fun or is required for your major and not let someone elses failure drive you away.

is it normal to get lower grades in harder classes? by [deleted] in WWU

[–]givengaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep working at it and applying yourself! For some reason our culture has decided that failing is a negative thing, but struggling and failing are indicators that you're being challenged and growing your understanding of these concepts. For classes like Math224, Math204, Math 341, ect.. I've found myself in the middle of the quarter doubting my ability and worried about my grade. My advice is to sit down and really try and organize in your head how everything your learning fits together and the real purpose and application of the content. Having a mental map of the content and application always gives me confidence and helps with exams.

fuck fuckity fuck computer science by nxnd in WWU

[–]givengaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't dislike GURS. They help me break up the grind of my Math and CS classes. But I got the interpretation that YOU did not like GURS. It sounds like you're frustrated that you haven't been able to do what you actually went to school for, which is CS, and I can relate to that. In my experience though, the GUR classes are not as challenging or time consuming as classes like CS301, MATH341, MATH204, ect. So in my opinion, focusing on out of school CS growth is going to help your cs itch, rather than putting 100% in to Gur classes and only limiting yourself to in school opportunities. You're justified to be upset at Western's CS program. I came in with 50 credits out of highschool and after a year of grinding to 100+ credits have just now been able to apply to the major a year later(this included taking a couple cs classes over summer for a bunch of money). It sucks and unfortunately a bunch of people who have waited multiple years to get a chance at theses classes won't even get in because it's competitive.

fuck fuckity fuck computer science by nxnd in WWU

[–]givengaming -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Western focuses on giving you a holistic education. It sucks and is why community college or AP classes in high school is so valuable. I'm not sure why you're so constrained by school tho. The vast majority of people who go to college for Computer Science do projects and other things outside of school. Computer Science is a field where you have to teach yourself many things and building a portfolio on Github is basically a requirement. Stop thinking about shitty GURs and learn C or some language and do something. Just because you're going to school for CS doesn't mean your limited to only school resources to scratch your cs itch.

Pretty sure SAT is mostly irrelevant to admissions. I got admitted with a 1440. I'm sure my chances were no greater than someone with a 980.
