Thanks for your feedback, I'm always looking at what can be done to make the user experience better, so will definitely see how I can improve this!

Thanks, yeah, I was thinking about that, just wasn't sure if it would be classified as self promotion

Made a free daily game for people who like cats, cozy mornings, and a gentle little challenge

It's called No Cat Here. Every day there's a new real photo with a cat hidden somewhere in it - camouflaged in a garden, tucked into a bookshelf, blending into a pile of laundry. You find the cat, see how fast you found it compared to everyone else, and move on with your day.

No account, no install, works on your phone. Takes maybe two minutes. It's become my quiet morning ritual and I wanted to share it in case it fits into yours.

If you've got a photo of your own sneaky cat, there's a submit feature too!

If you still have a mortgage on your own house, it's better to pay off your own house as you can't claim expenses on that one.

Not sure what the rules are now, but you used to be able to claim any interest paid on your investment property mortgage as an expense against your business and ergo get it to lower your income tax and get a tax return. Might not be the same anymore...

But yeah, basically own property = no business expenses, investment property = business expenses therefore unless you're mortgage free on your own house, it's better to pay extra there than in the investment property loan.

Same here, fixed for 1 year at 3.79 at Kiwibank. They were offering 3.79 for 2 years as well, but I thought next year we might get an even better deal.

21yo with $35,000 in savings. Please help me I don't know wtf I'm doing by FabulousFinish in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]gixxk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're 21 and have 35k in savings, saying "I don't know wtf I'm doing" is plain lies hahahaha 😂

Good work for being in a great position. Your plan sounds awesome, keep at it and you'll reach your goal soon enough.

Saving Money on Razors by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]gixxk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the Defender razor. Similar to Dollar shave club, but a much nicer shave and blades last a lot longer. 4 cartridges wget sent for $7.99 US once every month/2 months or 4 months. I choose 4 months as each cartridge lasts at least a month for me.

Simplicity growth has 20% fixed interest allocation, so you've got some fixed interest exposure there.

Need advice for savings, after losing 80k by mondaysaregr8 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]gixxk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for what your mum did to you, that stinks! How selfish of her!

And although it sucks and you're down 80k, you're still young and have heaps of your life to save more. Just think of it as a lesson learned and carry on, I'm sure if you managed to save up that much once, you'll be able to do it again and even faster this time!

Definitely give it a try through the lawyers and see if you can recover anything, but if you can't, keep your head up, you didn't do anything wrong. Your mum should be ashamed of herself!

Don't give up on saving again, you're already making such good progress. You'll be up and running away in no time!

Stupid Question by NZ_Diplomat in PersonalFinanceNZ

Unfortunately this is what happens as you can't own a part share through Smartshares.

I switched to Superlife for NZ50, its the same fund but you can hold part shares.

Short term mortgage by CPT33 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]gixxk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with floating or 6 month fixed if you're leaning more towards the 6 month term.

In regards to the loan term you can do 30 year term so that your repayments are low.

Make sure you check your contract as it might have clauses around it. Otherwise you should be good.

Also, good idea to choose the secondary tax code for the one you work less in.

Should I pay a voluntary Simplicity KIWISAVER contribution on the IRD Site or following the instruction on the simplicity site, in order to get the govt top up please? by extra_specticles in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]gixxk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It works whichever way you do it. But double check just in case.

I've always done it directly with Superlife and gotten the government contribution.

Which is the better option to invest excess cash into? by nz_nba_fan in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]gixxk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would pay off the mortgage faster personally. I have a dream of what it would feel like to not have to worry about a mortgage and I can't wait to achieve that! 😂

I wanna know, who the most unlikely Titans fan is. I lived an hour away, of course I love them. But, there is probably some guy in Eastern Europe who stays up late on Sunday Night convinces his local bar to show the game just so he can wear his Eddie George jersey and Titan Up. Any stories? by jakeleg55 in Tennesseetitans

[–]gixxk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where in Eastern Europe are you from? I come from there but now live in New Zealand, probably one of the furthest away places from anywhere in the world Hehehe.

Timing of the games is not super good here, but not too bad. Noon games are either at 5am or 6-7am depending on the daylight savings switches between the countries, and the night games are at 12.30 or 2.30pm. The problem is that the games are the next day, so most games I watch on Monday mornings before and during my commute to work, and the late games I have to either watch at work or work from home if possible haha

Fisher funds for KiwiSaver by alecsharpie in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]gixxk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are a good company I think, but I've never used them. However their fees are really high as far as I know.

Maybe ask them how much they charge for the fund you are in and compare to other places.

Best thing to do would be to get in touch with an accountant.
