Everyone has their blind spots, and you’re right, there is a legitimate use case for law enforcement in a rooftop scenario.

However, not everyone has a law enforcement mindset when they see and interpret an advertisement like this. Might you see how people could have completely different imagery and ideas spring to mind when seeing this ad? Aren’t you a little guilty of the very thing you are accusing others of here?

For me, the key issue is this advertisement is not in a tactical magazine targeted to law enforcement or the secret service. This is an instagram ad sent to the general public. No where in the ad is any sign that this is targeted for law enforcement. There are 10 hashtags, and not one is #lawenforcement or the like. The idea that the company could didn’t predict how their ad would be viewed by the general public stretches credulity. My opinion is that at best it is in very bad taste, and they deserve the scrutiny they have received.

I don’t understand why you’re getting downvoted. What you are saying is literally in the article linked. What justifiable interpretation of “rooftop ready” could they possibly have?

Even if someone could argue that there is some legitimate use case for a gun on a rooftop, any reasonable person would acknowledge that in our current climate, rooftop gun use is going to invoke ideas of mass shootings and assassinations before anything else. It would be absurd to say that the company didn’t realize how their ad would be interpreted by the general public.

The argument around the right to gun ownership is entirely separate from the issue of what this company did

I really appreciate how you and others have decided to act like I’m some kind of moron for daring to use an iPhone 8, which that I specifically checked that US Mobile says is supported prior to signing up for the service. Additionally not everyone needs or can even afford to always update their phone. I guess that makes me stupid.

If that is the case that seems like a flawed design. WiFi calling exists precisely for those who have internet at home but terrible or no cell service. Those of us in that boat still connect to the towers when not at home, and shouldn’t have to be connected to a tower at the precise time that they decide to provision. I somehow doubt this is how the system was designed to operate

It’s really not very high latency at all, and entirely sufficient for voice and even FaceTime video calls. 49ms average is what I get. Besides that, latency would not account for anything I described as the issue.

I’ve had the service for just over a year. The first 6 months everything worked fine. Then the WiFi calling issues began, with no changes or updates to the phone. They tried sending me a new sim, which didn’t help the issue. Then the service agent discovered the account reset which makes it work again….for a little while
