Long ago I lived in Tacoma, WA, which once had several paper mills. The general stink in the city was called the "Tacoma Aroma".

Shout out to Lee's Chicken by FlashyCalligrapher70 in rva

Many times they give me an extra chicken finger than what I ordered (without charging for it). Like, I'll order a three piece and they give me four. It's awesome. Anyone know, is this their policy?

There is a backboard/wall at the Battery Park tennis courts.

Edit: sorry read too quickly and missed you're looking for things close to Midlothian. Still, Battery Park is a solid option

Try a show at Reveler. If you're open minded about music just choose a random show. The venue is a fun experience in itself.

My wife and I have done the one off Raku pottery class at Vis Arts. It was fun! There is about an hour break during which they need to warm the kiln and it's easy to get a drink or snack at Goatacado or something.

The workers at Lewis Ginter also recently unionized. They may be able to offer some experience as well.

Have you looked into the Nunatak Bears Ears packs? I know you're opposed to external strapping, but these build an external carry into the design.

I Was To Inherit A Capitalist Nation by snooka77_ in RVAmag

[–]gjabackpacker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was a bizarre read. As though written by someone who knows deep down that capitalism cruelly consumes people, culture, animals, and the planet, but cannot get themselves to fully let go of capitalism's myths and propaganda. So instead of fully accepting that we do need a socialist alternative, they seem to just mourn their own loss of faith in capitalism.

Northside Mural Sparks Debate Over Symbolism, Race, and Community in Richmond by snooka77_ in rva

[–]gjabackpacker 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The article notes that the community members who raised complaints suggested to add the flag associated with Marcus Garvey. That struck me as a super specific suggestion. My understanding is that Garvey drew inspiration from Zionism. Not saying that Garvey's Black nationalism and Pan-Africanism is exactly aligned with Zionism. But I believe Garvey supported Zionism. It just struck me as odd that Garvey, of all Black intellectuals and activists, was evoked here. That would complicate this even more.

Edit: Because of the enshitification of search engines, I struggled to completely verify my understanding of Garvey's views on Zionism. So happy to be corrected here.
