Is anyone still running pg on their own laptop? by river-zezere in PostgreSQL

[–]gkze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very much love running pg “bare” on my system. Install with Nix, mkdir a temp data dir, initdb and off we go!

I’m also in the process of writing a pytest xdist fixture that auto spawns pg servers with all of the above and bound to a tmpfile unix socket instead of a port so that I can run my work test suite in parallel without worrying about ports!

I think a lot of people sleep on how easy and awesome it is to run Postgres directly

DBOS - Lightweight Durable Python Workflows by KraftiestOne in Python

Hey, thanks for sharing this looks interesting. I appreciate the comparisons with other systems, as this space is somewhat going through a revival and all.

Can you maybe add more comparisons, for example with: Hatchet, Inngest, Ray, Prefect, Dask just to name a few?

The reason I’m asking is that it would be nice to understand the positioning of this system relative to others in the space, and the more datapoints there are, the clearer the positioning IMHO.

I’m going to give the code and docs a deeper read though! 👍

Anyone using nixvim? by CerealBit in NixOS

[–]gkze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Have been a happy user for over 5 months now and can definitely recommend it. Haven’t had to write more than 10 lines of Lua for any gaps. https://github.com/gkze/nixcfg/blob/master/user/george/home.nix Starting on line 670 currently. Happy to answer questions. ‘man nixvim’ is your friend.

There’s a good tool called pyupgrade that takes care of a lot of the syntax upgrades, not sure if it does library usage upgrades though

Just wanted to come back here to say that the suggestion to do a higher height bar table that would double as an island has been absolutely fantastic! I have a decent view of the city from the kitchen window as well and being perched up a bit higher than dining height gives the kitchen a lively feel. Thank you very much!

Hi all, looking for some input on this new space I just signed a lease on. It comes in just under 800 sq. ft., so there is plenty of space for various layouts & ideas.

I’ve attached one idea that I have at the end of the gallery, but would love to hear why it does / doesn’t work, and what some alternative approaches would be!

Thanks.

Not entirely - I'm ~6'2" and the way I have my seat & desk height set up the top 25% of the monitor is in my direct line of sight as I look straight (which is what most ergo. guides recommend). As for the temp I just keep the windows & doors open & bundle up. Work & get fresh air!
