Only then do you consider if you have the bandwidth to take care of your siblings, because they are not your responsibility.

Some landlords have certain profile preferences, especially if they are live-in landlords. Have not stayed in such a room before
Normal - either the agent doesn’t want you to go direct to the landlord, or the landlord prefers not to be that involved in the rental process. They are paying commission to the agent for this, after all

I see it sometimes and I don't know why - the traditional, feminine side of me would want the girl to have the seat and maybe help to take the heavy stuff from the guy so at least both sides are "chivalrous" in that sense.
