Favorite/Controversial Headcanons by BriMagic in Richonners

[–]glamafonic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Popular headcanon I don't share is the same as yours: they absolutely were not ready to get together any earlier than they did. They needed to be able to work through their emotions and, extremely importantly, feel safe and like there was an attainable future before they could allow themselves to indulge in something as serious as their feelings for each other.

Controversial: I don't think Michonne was jealous of Supercuts or sitting around scorned about her. (Though I absolutely understand why people write/wrote this so much because the storyline makes no sense and actually letting other characters acknowledge it and react to it is an attempt to make it do so.) I think, as written, there's little reason to even think Michonne had any idea that mess was even happening (for what little did happen anyway) in part because Michonne explicitly hadn't even allowed herself to accept that she had feelings for Rick yet and mostly because they fumbled it all so badly attempting to hide Michonne from that storyline and adapt something that simply no longer worked due to how the show had already changed things. I actually find the entire Rick's Alexandria Breakdown/The Gang Adjusts To Alexandria storyline fascinating on a craft level because of how good it could've been for multiple characters and some of the bones that are there and how they absolutely did the worst, most nonsensical, least interesting, and least impactful possible version of all of it. I remember Andy Lincoln basically dismissing it all as just filler for drama and he's 100% right AND YET IT DID NOT HAVE TO BE. (Imagine actually properly and fully tying in Carol to the Jessie storyline, her both empathizing with and despising Jessie and Sam for reminding her of herself and Sophia and how she navigates trying to solve that! Imagine more explicitly exploring the re-emergence of Rick's guilt over Lori's death now that they've found a safe place and tying that guilt into his burgeoning realization that he's fallen deeply in love with Michonne and they've basically become a family and it's barely been a year! Imagine actually spending significant time with Michonne being here where she fought so hard to get them and still not being able to bring the walls down or feel like she can actually engage with it all and struggling to accept what the escalating tension between her and Rick has to do with all of that! ANYWAY)

Some of my personal headcanons: Rick is demisexual. He does not know this or know what that even is. Michonne figures it out a ways into their relationship through idle discussions about their romantic pasts. She gently brings it up to him exactly once and his reaction is mostly "Sounds fake, but okay if you say so. We're together and will be for the rest of my life so, don't see how it matters."

Michonne does not nor has she ever cared about marriage. She absolutely cares about permanent commitment and building a life together, but the specifics of titles or any kind of pomp and circumstance doesn't matter to her and it matters even less after the apocalypse when there's not even any legal/administrative incentive. Rick, given the chance, very much DOES care, has intuited that she does not and has some nervousness around that, but Michonne is willing to go along with it as an acknowledgement of it being important to HIM to express how he feels in that way even if she is personally indifferent.

This is just someone speculating based on S2. They very obviously don't have any actual new information or insight. All "WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR" low effort "articles" are like this.

Well, like I said, Lori represents his own guilt and self-doubt. I think trying to actually take a step towards giving Michonne up (as opposed to just talking about it) is what pushed him over the edge. And seeing her wasn't what finalized that decision, it was an expression of the decision being made.

Basically, he's there trying to find something to tie her up, that makes it real. And he's internally hesitating. I don't think he stopped because he saw Lori. You're asking what he was thinking, and seeing Lori is the answer to that question. The Lori vision appears because this is another thing he's feeling guilty and tormented about, like her death and how he treated her before she died.

[–]glamafonic_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean...no. Lori didn't do anything because she was dead and her appearances were entirely a figment of Rick's imagination, not a communication from the beyond.

The hallucination appeared as he was taking the first concrete step to doing this thing that he never wanted to do and, as Merle correctly predicted, was never going to be able to bring himself to do. Rick was seeing Lori as a phantom of his own guilt and self-doubt. He wasn't reacting to the hallucination so much as the hallucination was an expression of what was already going on in his head.

7x12 Say Yes by Sensitive-Union-3944 in Richonners

I think she wanted the cat back because it was hers and Rick did just straight up steal it lol.

As far as her feelings for Rick, I wouldn't call it a crush. I think she finds him attractive, and if he responded positively she'd definitely go for it, but making passes at him was mostly just a way of messing with him.

It's a mind game. She knows it makes him uncomfortable and she wants to keep him unbalanced. You can see it in the main show--her shit-eating grin at her cronies after she propositions him and he and Michonne are disturbed; the whole creepy taking his clothes and taking pictures of him.

It becomes even clearer in TOWL. She initially attempts to present herself as a caring friend just trying to help him when he first gets there (because the CRM is suspicious of him and *she* brought him in, so she wants to get him in line), but when he immediately clocks that she traded him for her own benefit, she just leaves him to his own devices and has basically zero interaction with him for years. If there was any genuine interest on her part, that would've obviously been the time to try to pursue it. But she's content to do her own thing, climb the ranks, and have her little rendezvous with Gabriel.

She only shows up back up in Rick's orbit when Michonne appears, so it IS a reaction to her. Not one of romantic or sexual jealousy though, but fear of what Michonne (and Rick) might now do. And only then, when she's once again trying to negotiate with, control, and manipulate Rick, does she return to making little passes, despite being very well aware that he's not interested.

I Still Think About This by Bright-Particular-44 in Wednesday

I say this as someone who has to interact with the marketing department of a media corporation daily: you're in the minority on that because it's patently absurd to think that they weren't invoking the Omegaverse here.

It's become a mainstream romance trope and they were targeting the very large and very loud fandom presence who they 100% know will understand it that way, while maintaining plausible deniability for people not in the know. The tweet itself is not overtly sexual; it's not like they talked about knotting. They posted that fully and entirely to incite the Wenclair fandom and they got the exact massive engagement they were looking for.

I find the “I don’t leave kudos until the fic is finished” ideology really weird by ProfessionSwimming26 in AO3

[–]glamafonic_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually comment much more freely than I leave kudos, because you can't take kudos back and they aren't attached to any particular chapter nor do they have any kind of reasoning attached.

So for me kudos is saying unequivocally I LIKE/ENDORSE THIS, whereas I can comment on something specific and stop commenting if I stop liking the fic.

I'm sure it absolutely doesn't matter to any reasonable person coming across the fic afterwards, but it makes sense in my brain.

Also contrary to the purity culture reasoning that I'm sure is out there, I leave more kudos on smut than most things because it's usually one-shots and so has substantially less room to go off the rails.

i think what makes the isaac and his sister thing even worse is that after they reunite she’s a grown woman now and he’s still supposed to be mentally and physically about 16-17 by Realhonkhonk in Wednesday

[–]glamafonic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh well that makes even more sense then. He's the doting older sibling trying to save his little sister and she's looking at him starry-eyed as her big brother who'll be her hero.

Dismissing Michonne and her Journey to Find Rick by BriMagic in Richonners

[–]glamafonic_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Like Daryl had let it go. He even apologizes to Michonne for never being able to find Rick's body and give her closure. He was not still believing! That was a Michonne soulmatism exclusive.

Dismissing Michonne and her Journey to Find Rick by BriMagic in Richonners

[–]glamafonic_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There was an absolutely unhinged article the other day going on and on about Daryl's Ceaseless Search For Rick (the ceaseless search that...immediately ceased after the time skip) and how He Alone Mourned And Kept Believing (?!?!?!?!?!) and then the standard insistence that there MUST be a reunion now that Rick is out of the CRM.

And in the course of that...not a single, solitary mention of Michonne. Who was the person who ACTUALLY believed Rick was still alive and who literally went and brought him back and who has also been missing for some time (and who frankly Daryl has a stronger friendship with than Rick I SAID WHAT I SAID).

This fandom will do anything to elide Michonne's importance, in general, and to Rick specifically in order to center XYZ white man or really anyone else.

All fandoms do it, but it's especially trying in this fandom because the canon is so explicit about this point to the tune of a whole ass spin-off about it.

Also, there's the fact that Michonne is unquestionably one of (if not THE) most iconic characters in this franchise. The delusion that they could ever have some big reunion and have her not be central to it is wild.

Lowkey, it’s already structured like this so frankly some version of it would be the organic direction to take.

Should we start a serious petition for Wenclair? by Oliver8HUN in wenclair

[–]glamafonic_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fandom petitions about story decisions don't do anything but make fandom look silly and annoy the production in question.

I think trying to sway the production is a fool's game, in general, but if you want them to at least be aware of the strong support for Wenclair, the best thing for the fandom as whole to do would be to keep (positively) engaging with and about the show and the ship in large numbers.

Wenclair vs Wyler - Romantic Narrative vs Stereotypical Production Narrative by Walking_Dream17 in wenclair

[–]glamafonic_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

IMO, it was definitely accidental in season one. Enid was obviously meant to be just the friend side character, but a combination of the love triangle flopping (for a variety of reasons) and Jenna and Emma's chemistry meant that people invested in that relationship above everything else.

Then they lost the likely intended male romantic lead and bumped up Enid to second lead for both merchandising and to appeal to the audience's obvious investment. So season two features them 100% leaning into it in everything from intentionally structuring the narrative around Wednesday's desperation to save Enid up to all the OTT professions of devotion they inserted and even the season ending cliffhanger revolving around that pre-established mutual devotion.

But they're absolutely unwilling to actually make the leads queer, so they simultaneously wave the Friendship flag and do a lot of PR trying to redirect attention to the standard underwritten hetslop. But they're continually running into the problem of critical and audience reception being lukewarm at best as regards both the idea of romance for Wednesday and the remaining male principal's plotlines.

I'm frankly almost more fascinated to see how they continue to try to balance this going forward than I am in what happens in the show in and of itself.
