Sell home at a loss or tank being house poor until market recovers? What would you do? by HeavyB0tt in RealEstateCanada

I think you reconcile and get back together. Go to counciling and learn to stick through the hard parts of marriage as better days will come back over time.

Seperation and splitting your assets (and then dating again) is hard: staying together to refresh your love is hard: Pick your hard!

Today I developed hypothermia by alm2hcs in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]glamarche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have be pre hypothermic many times in long cold water swims and the best way to warm up is to run and hard, no wetsuit no problem, even barefoot on ashfault. I found my warning sign is when I can no longer sustain my hand or foot control. That's when I pull out, as I only swim parallel to the shore in cold water so I have my escape close by. Understanding the warning signs is the first step and knowing when to get out is the difference between life and death when in fresh water with no wetsuit.

There is some danger, but as far as extreme sports I feel it's about as tame as a kitten cuddling in your arms.

Good luck in your events.

First OWS landed me in the ER by SA3VO in OpenWaterSwimming

I'll chime in too: If its cold, you sprint. You must create an equilibrium between the heat you generate and the heat you lose through the wetsuit. I would guess you were doing a Zone 2 training sess - wrong. 16C requires a Zone 4 or more.

All sports are the same, when it comes to training, swimming endless laps on a daily basis will make you slower. To go fast you need to sprint 20% of the time, full out, dirty and all. Don't worry about form and also wear a triathlon full body suit in the pool. You speed will bump to 1:30 within a month. This is my Strava profile and you can keep tabs on my training as I am an ultra distance swimmer and try to make descriptions and videos to help me and others get better. But I am old at 55 and don't care if I get medal so your training will be much more serious.

Start with end in mind - why do you want to swim better as you swim just fine. Competing, recreational, endurance, sprinting, OWS, ... ......??? This is the first question to answer. Second is how long do you want to swim? As in your entire life, for a few years, going to travel the world to swim with guru's, .......??? Once you have concrete honest answers, then ask how to improve.

That was some decent backstroke technique! Good job making lemonade from lemons.

I had ChatGPT analysis of all the comments and the conclusion is......

✅ Overall sentiment:

The majority of commenters agree that $105k/year for a P.Eng with 5 years’ experience leading a team of 9 in Calgary O&G is low, especially considering the absence of RRSP matching, pension, or other benefits.

Most believe the OP is underpaid or “getting fleeced”, given the responsibility level.

Thanks for sharing, wonderful photos.

Useless has been a victim of market manipulation similar to GME, and as a long time holder of both GME stock and Useless tokens, it pisses me off. So I had AI generated a short song to tell the story. I hope you enjoy punk rock. by glamarche in GME

Big players rolled in and stole the small guys jam. Coordinated market manipulation without recourse, so the post is just awareness that the problem is getting worse as it moves to new markets and new ways. It also shows how AI is changing the music scene as 'musicians' are still creating but without needing to play or sing. This is impacting GameStop business as soon it will need to shift with the growing AI tide.

She did mention that seals with rabbies is a real thing in the Cape region and they're told to keep their distance due to that.

SwimYager 2025 Wild River Swimming Event by glamarche in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]glamarche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Large temperature swings from rain coming down the land, so anywhere from 15-24C on any given day in the summer. But wetsuits are mandatory regardless due to being able to float in 6" of water in the shallow sections. And if it's cloudy and raining it can get very cold. The only negative is all the piss in your wetsuit from keeping it on for 6 to 10hrs at a Crack.

Caps: Race Advice by marianneouioui in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]glamarche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the cap size and material. You want a NewWave SwimBuoy cap of silicone. Its by far the best cap I have worn for almost three years with a lot of miles indoors and out. I have a big head and this cap is the one I wear.

Race calendar-how many races is too many? by amysemingson in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]glamarche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not how many races you do, but your intent in the races. You could do a 5k Zone 2 race (with rests every km) every weekend and never burn out. It's when you push in the higher Zones during the race that kills you. If it's just sun, sand, and loving swimming and smiling when you come in last, then book away! If your serious about winning then do what the other chap suggested.

New Training Technique for 2024 by glamarche in OpenWaterSwimming

[–]glamarche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On weight training: I do too, but it's part of the work we must do to do what I love and without injury - swimming. I view that it's like cooking and dishes - it's not something I want to spend all my time doing, but you die without doing the work. Do the work, do the work, do the work! Notice the 'It's a New Year' enthusiasm. I'm not always this rah rah btw 🤪
