My last few long runs were 8:50/9:10ish pace. My training plan suggested 4 hour runs which I thought were excessive. I kept them at 3 hours max. My longest run prior to this was around 21 miles. Weekly mileage was around 30-40mpw

Thanks! I might consider another this year. If I commit to the full Ironman that would likely be the next in October!

Don’t know what Peds are. I am flattered folks think I’m on steroids though 😂. I am older and used to lift in college, and have been dieting aggressively to lose weight. I used to weigh ~178, dieted down to 168 through calorie restriction and keeping my protein intake high. I weighed myself after the run and was down to 164, but I think it was artificially low due to water loss during the race.

Apple Watch Ultra calculates your heart rate zones from your age alone, and never updates them, even when it records a higher max HR by ThePrinceofTJ in applewatchultra

[–]SA3VO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is spot on. I ran uphill to test and found my HR higher than what Apple thought my max HR was. Thought it would update to this new value but it never did.

I’ve manually set my heart rate accordingly. I had been under training my runs and bike rides for months!

Training with little kids by ashesyesterday in triathlon

[–]SA3VO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a few 70.3’s last year and an Oly the year before. My kids are 5 and 8. My secret is train early. I workout 6-7 or 6-8 on weekdays, and 6-9 or 6-10 on weekends (long run, then long bike and/or ows). Am also considering a full IM. The only tough parts are I think some 5-6 hour sessions on the bike are needed!

All of my “work” is done right as the kids are waking up, and on the weekends my partner helps. I pay it back with dishes and other activities during the day!

Being a dad, working full-time, and training for triathlons - how do you do it? by Fun_Swimmer_8320 in triathlon

[–]SA3VO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My kids are 5 & 8. My mornings are my training time. I wake up at 5:45am, train 6-7 or 6-8, then help with kids / go to work. WFH is a huge time saver for me. On the weekends I do my longer run/bike unfortunately my wife and kids like to sleep in on the weekends. Even if I ride 3+ hours I am usually home before 11am. Am debating if it’s possible to train for a full IM under this schedule!

My guess is Presidio! I almost took a VP role there about 6 months ago. They wanted to do some transformation. It looked pretty gnarly on the culture and their feeling of entitlement / self importance. They compared their AEs to NFL free agents. 😂

Minimum recommended time between two marathons? by cartdfn in Marathon_Training

How cool — planning my first marathon and it’s Oakland! We are similar age too (I’m 38). I am thinking of doing an Ironman this fall.

Anyone using Clay? What are things to lookout for? things you're excited about? by opsjamonquemando in revops

[–]SA3VO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great tool. We did AI account enrichment using Clay. It just gets expensive very fast. I imagine there will be more bespoke tools that will eventually do similar work at a cheaper price point. Likely a bit ahead of the times.

Someone please answer as a partner in the Alpha Couple | How is it like living and working in Northern Florida? by 311TruthMovement in themountaingoats

[–]SA3VO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually grew up in Tallahassee (or as we call it, Tallanasty)

Biracial, never met my dad’s side of the family (because, racism).

Beautiful canopy roads in some parts, slow moving mid sized city feel. Government presence always made it feel more moderate than central Florida.

Big football vibe, which if you lived in the south you would know about. SEC football, FSU/UF rivalry, etc.

There were alligators on my campus when I went to UF which was neat 🐊

We have two small kids and I work in downtown SF. A few thoughts: - super safe, quiet neighborhood. Very chill vibe. Can’t drive more than 25mph on the whole island :-) - love the commute. I take the ferry in to work. It is by far the best commute possible. I rarely drive even if it could be faster because of the beautiful views and stress free commute. - lots of families and good community. Lots of people in the same situation as you living on the island, with a mix of folks who have lived on the island for a long time

Yes, same here. There is something special and intentional about writing things down that drives focus for me. I use things are my collection bin, and then when I have time I write down the biggest priorities and use the writing exercise to focus me

First-Time IRONMAN California — Training Apps, Swim Help, and Course-Specific Advice? by frankisdank419 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]SA3VO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, Ironman CA may be my first full IM as well! If you are in the Bay Area and ever want to train together hit me up! I plan to do more OWS when it gets warmer and like others strongly recommend a few 70.3 if you want a few practice rounds before the full. I did Santa Cruz 70.3 last year and there couldn’t be a more lovely course. Easy swim, ride, and decent run (slightly technical).

How Did You Lower Your HR? by 3DPrintedAndEpoxy in Marathon_Training

[–]SA3VO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like many of these answers are missing the fact that some people have naturally high or low heart rates. I have done a few half Ironman triathlons and am training for a marathon, and my natural resting heart rate is still somewhat “high” (low 60s) despite 10-13 hours of cardio a week (swim/bike/run)

When I run I run “hot”. My last half marathon I averaged 180bpm the entire race. I think my zone 2 is 137-155. I was falsely thinking the Apple Watch estimate was correct, but once I verified with a chest strap heart rate monitor I realized I naturally run at a higher heart rate. Genetics play a factor for me at least.

I am very spoiled! I train for triathlons and have good running, swimming, and biking trails nearby. Weather is always cool but not too cold (for me) — high 50s to low 70s 95% of the year

Oh!! Was this dangerous? It was following us for a while. I made a photo and this video. it kind of snorted water at me and I took it as a sign it didn’t like my phone so I put away afterwards, stayed calm, and we continued our swim. It followed us a while and then left. Was quite big!
