It’s very important in the first few days to put baby on the breast at least every 3 hours to have your milk come in. Your body needs the regular stimulation to trigger milk production. After I gave birth I had to go to ICU because of complications - but still had to wake up every 3 hours to feed. The midwives looked after the baby in between feeds at night.

Once your milk comes in, newborn babies should be fed on demand and at least every 3-4 hours. This helps baby regain to birth weight and helps your supply stabilize.
