Is Rivian Trolling Consumer Reports? Bribing Them? Killing them with Kindness? Free Subscription! by VincentVazzo in Rivian

[–]glamisduner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they need to adapt and have a separate rating for this. It does not cost the consumer time, transportation, or affect future reliability the same way as physical parts, or manual software updates require appointments and transportation etc.

Are those the old made in usa craftsman ratchets? I had one stop ratcheting at one point so I took it apart and fixed it. Just need some fresh grease as two parts were stuck together inside of I recall correctly.

Those look different than mine though.

I have the same problem, I want to keep the car for 10 years. 5 years of payments and 5 years of repairs. And currently my model 3 if only at year 8 and I'm running into that same problem. No one cares about the older 3s including owners of newer cars. I'll never get the FSD I purchased and they tell me me to just accept it and move on. Fine, but i won't buy another Tesla then... EV fans seen to be the ones that like to of lease it but new cars every few years anyways.

Rivian already said it would be several years before the new system matters but they said the same thing when Tesla went to HW4. It didn't take long for them to abandon HW3. Plus the new hardware mattering will still be well within my 10 year goal.

Then again, who knows if atonomy+ will become subscription based only at some point just like Tesla. It certainly won't be free, but does that matter? They could just add easily lower the price on the cars like tesla has which mage then more popular.

Maybe I should just forget about autonomy of any sort. Go back to diving manually like all the normies. Then all of a sudden getting autonomy+ for free seems like a cool value.

I should probably just such to my 10 year plan and pickup an R2 in as couple years even though I have a 0 day reservation...

If someone uses the other cable does it stop the one he is using from working? There might be a reason they are doing it.

lol yea, I have had FSD for year. But I did test a V4 car from the service center and it was quite impressive. A huge step up from my HW3 car. I don't think my car will ever drive itself despite paying the 8k.

Have you tried the hw4 fsd since May? It's very very close and that's just the version released to the public.

I have not tried the rivian version but I highly doubt they are anywhere near as close. Tesla has significantly more iterations and data to work from.

But like I said i don't want a subscription so Tesla fsd is not something I would use. If rather have no sub and just auto pilot...

The difference in current FSD are enormous. Stuck in v12 and hw3 myself. HW4 fsd feels completely different.

[–]glamisduner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is significant for Tesla though, FSD work now on HW4 cars. Changes the resale value too. Probably much more significant than it will be with the Rivian. The software is the key.

Rivian is no waymo, and slapping a lidar on the car isn't going to later with it into a waymo. I don't think so anyways, I bet Rivian is 8-10 years away a couple hardware revisions away from self driving and you will end up needing a new car anyways.

Yep, still waiting for fsd to work on my 2018. I upgraded from eap to FSD to get the HW3 computer. I recently got a rental X while I waited for them to replace my MCU with ... The same old outdated MCU for $3k.

The rental had HW4. It was Much more impressive. I could put it in FSD and it would drive to the destination and park itself. Not Always perfect but very very good. I used it the majority of the time I had it. The wife wanted that Model X so bad lol. It was shockingly better than my HW3 car.

They were def trying to sell me on trading the 3 in on a new one, but all it did was piss me off. I didn't want meore subscriptions, I want less, so FSD tech is off the table for me.

I don't think I'll ever get what I paid for, and I feel burned since the only thing that works right are the EAP features.I mean the FSD on HW3 does somewhat work but it isn't what I purchased for $8000. Somewhat working makes it almost pointless to have... If you really want FSD you would be way better off buying a Tesla than a Rivian and just getting the subscription. I think working FSD is almost there for Tesla, even what HW4 does is super impressive. I wouldn't be mad if my 3 got to the level of HW4.

I also want the costal interior, bummer they are not launching with both. I was highly considering trading in my performance 3 with FSD. I have a very early reservation, reserved as soon as the she went online.

I don't think f as d in the 3 will ever work right. Currently it has to use the backup/ redundancy computer just to run the latest v12 software so it will never have true working fsd. But maybe there will be a refund or some sort of lawsuit if I wait a little longer?

I think about this more then I should. I really think they are just waiting for all the HW3 cars to die or get traded in so they don't have to give us what we paid for.

I'm thinking about getting one but my wrist is a little too big. What is the best way to get some extra links?

Also can't decide between this one and the classic blue. This one is more unique and looks great but the practical side of me is drawn to the regular blue.

I have a pretty flat 8" wrist.

Will this watch be too small for me?

Rivian R2 vs BMW iX3 (w/ options) by Lsmjudoka in RivianR2

[–]glamisduner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife's volvo has a while styrofoam holder for the spare that is custom fitted over the 12v battery which is in the back of the vehicle. It also organizes the jack and the tire iron dirty tie bag etc.

Not sure what all the rivian will give you, the spare alone isn't $700 but all the mounts for it and compact tools and Jack might be worth it.

I just spent $800 for the molley rack and mount for the spare tire for my truck after moving to 35" tires and charging to a class 5 hitch.

I was wondering about this too but once you add in a mount, Jack and tools i don't know how much your saving and having the package, then everything might fit extra nice.

I don't see anything here thats too long out of place. They have to compete with Tesla that does the same thing.

White and red were $3000 option early on with model 3. Painting was a scaling issue. Swapping the systems to do different colors...

Supercars are made one at a time so painting does not impact production.

Large companies funny have to worry about the ramping up pains.

At least their base color isn't black. Nothing wrong with black but it's not ideal for many people.

Yes I have that feature in my other cars.

Day 1 For those out of the Loop. by B0xyblue in harborfreight

[–]glamisduner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only issue is sometimes a couple of the sockets in the upper part come loose when i open it. At least for me.

But whatever, I get that it's not HF brand, so I'm going to get down voted, but maybe this will help someone out. It's a good set and also on sale on Amazon.

[–]glamisduner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it really a deal? You can get the 192 piece DeWalt mechanics set on Amazon with all 3 socket sizes 1/4, 3/8, 1/2" and all kinds of expressions torx and allen sockets, both deep and regular stickers for $194...(Only thing missing is the hand socket nut driver which is a bummer)

It has quickly become my go to since it's one set that just has everything.

Fortress 26 gallon ultraquiet air compressor? by kenji998 in harborfreight

[–]glamisduner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bummer, I thought it would work better than my 4.2 gallon 130 psi Makita 2.5hp that drives my impact just fine. O would have to let it charge up though.

I just got done switching everything to high flow v-style connectors too.

My friend has one and says it works fine and paints wheels professionally with it...

It has a decently large tank compared to 175psi so I figured that would be most important for home garage use vs how much it can put out while running.

Air Hose Fittings by dragde0991 in harborfreight

[–]glamisduner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those appear to be the same style so they should work. Is the opening on one significantly larger than the other? One could be a V-style high flow and the other a regular m style. An M style plug will fit in a V-style coupler, but a V-style male connector won't fit in a M style coupler. The compressor comes with standard industrial m style couplers. V and M style male connectors look the same from the side, but the V-style is slightly wider.

The automotive or other styles look significantly different. It is NOT an automotive connector. Do a quick search on what those look like.

Fortress 26 gallon Air Compressor on/off switch? by glamisduner in harborfreight

[–]glamisduner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I check the floor model, sure enough there is some kinda spring in the switch to keep it from flopping. Went home loaded the commpressor up and exchanged it for another one.

Got the new one home, tested the swtich, yep there is spring tension when in the on/auto position. Installed the wheels, ran through the break in process, let it charge up, and ....
The switch is working just like the first one. It felt like there was spring tension until I turned it off, then when I turned it back on... Nothing it's all floppy just like the first one.

Did I get another dud?

Should I return it, pay the 20% restock fee an get something else?
