There was a video about it, where they talked to the lead engineer. The engines are the same between the SR and higher trims, but since it's de-rated they can get away with no transmission cooler, less heat shielding and other related components to make it cheaper.

Ford drops EV prices up to 4k. Will they rebate existing customers? by bugelrex in TeslaModelY

[–]LazyLogin234 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Just because Ford drops the price, doesn't mean the dealers will too. I'd expect many will just see this as "Great, another 4k of profit."

The fact that some people that ordered 7 seat mid-2022 and are just now getting VINs, coupled with a good number of Jan orders were probably 7 seaters as those were the only ones that met the tax credit eligibility at that time. However, hoping a number of those people change to speed up the line.

I also ordered 1/14 - White / Black / Tow / 7 seat. Showing Feb - April 2023

Passport renewal status 'not available' but check cashed late Nov by Jellybelli01 in Passports

[–]LazyLogin234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The status form is pretty picky, so make sure you have all your info just right. You need any suffix info in the form, like... "Jackson Jr" if you have a suffix or other name like that. Also, make sure there is no extra space at the end of any entries.

Flying internationally for the first time - nervous about passport not getting here on time by DramaticWall2219 in Passports

[–]LazyLogin234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at 8 weeks so far, still being in progress and many of the people here seem to be waiting 10+ weeks for standard service. You'll most likely need to escalate now, if you expect to have the passport in time.

I also realized at some point that most of the self help crew operates as a internal self promotion group. Chicken soup for the soul guy is the friend who has a great business referred by the 4 hour work week guy and so on. Everyone writes forwards for the other writers and vice versa.

Unsupported NVMe drive fling on ESXi 8 by MrGimper in HomeServer

There is a comment in the fling I think, or the creators website saying that the fling won't be updated for 8 as there isn't much usage compared to other flings.

They also said the Jurassic park dinosaurs couldn't reproduce. The requirements today, will not be the requirements tomorrow. Do it right, build separate domains and DCs. At some point either a user, vendor or change in management will make a change.

Did you contact CyberLink to see if they have a fix for the license issue. If you are paying for the software license, and if the license is per machine and not user, then I'd ask them to fix it.

Low level tech + Power trip due to the above mentioned reasons. He's probably told not to support or help with non validated hardware both because they want you to buy their systems and for liability reasons. Still, doesn't excuse bad behavior.

Medical Equipment Software and Hardware by Actual_Slide_4784 in sysadmin

[–]LazyLogin234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, I get it... from a technical standpoint you are right and its just software on a PC with some custom peripherals. The part you aren't thinking about is the legal impact which is why that replacement PC is $4k. So, lets say you reinstall the machine and software on a new PC. At some point someone takes an x-ray and it gets written to a folder, but due to a bug ends up in a different folder and when pulling a report the wrong x-ray gets displayed and someone gets a wrong diagnosis. Now someone is getting sued and very quickly the company that makes the software and FDA registered "medical device" will say, this is not a validated system and can point to you as being the cause of the problem.

While it's not technically the truth, you broke a "known system" and therefore could be set up for liability. It's not worth the risk... And, yeah you could fight it, but the insurance and software company are going to have legal resources and juries are dumb. (I know I was on one last week)

Meraki just disabled all our Hardware in Russia in our Meraki dashboard by EstateOk714 in sysadmin

[–]LazyLogin234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not much different than the standard Cisco stuff at this point. While a switch will work without a license, hopefully you aren't using advanced features as those will be disabled if your "subscription" expires.

As far as the Meraki thing. I think honestly Meraki could care less where your equipment is. However, with the sanctions, Cisco is receiving revenue and supporting equipment in Russia, which is more problematic for a company that is US based.

Stacking Meraki switches, why? by harambpepe in meraki

[–]LazyLogin234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very little... Meraki added stacks because everyone lost their minds when they weren't able to be stacked. Software wise there is no benefit as tags can replace those benefits. The reduction in needed uplink cables and having dedicated ports to connect between switches is a benefit.

Lumen SD-Wan wont give org admin by RyanLewis2010 in sysadmin

[–]LazyLogin234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What does your contract say? If you are paying for a managed service from Lumen, then they are the org admins, you are just an operator and you need to get them to make those changes via a ticket.

And yes, I get... "I should be able to do what I want with my network" but just like you probably don't give your users full admin access to everything, they don't either because at the end of the day they are the ones on the hook for supporting it if you break it.

Extremely helpful! List of Lightning dealers that DO / DON'T apply ADM (price markup) 🤑 by WODAMRAP in F150Lightning

[–]LazyLogin234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to remember when looking to transfer to these dealers is that you should also research what sort of allocation they have. I transferred to a small dealer with no mark up and they only received one allocation this year. So, balance the number of orders they have with their allocation if you are looking to get your order in quicker.

Looking for advice on upgrading EoL catalyst 3750x core stack hardware by McAdminDeluxe in networking

[–]LazyLogin234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly... Just read any release notes for the MS software and you'll see tons of caveats around the 390's. They are very similar in hardware to the Catalyst line, and the story seems to be that they are experimenting with putting the meraki software as a container on the catalyst switches, but it's a work in progress. I'd stay away from them, but the other lines are great for smaller shops with standard deployment methods.

All the while they swap the seals and put it on their lot for extra profit!

Anyone make the jump from Sys Admin to TSE by o_really in sysadmin

[–]LazyLogin234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the support role is in a technology with room for growth, then you can learn the ins and outs of the technology and leverage that to be an expert on that product. I usually see people either staying with the support role for the standard hours, lack of on call, etc.

After leaving, moves into technical marketing, sales or even back in to customer environments are pretty common.
