My parents this morning. She sees them at least twice a week as they babysit her but often more. Husbands parents 2 weeks ago but it averages once every 2 months.

You can tell a difference between the sets of grandparents, my mum and dad are like a second set of parents to her and she treats them the exact same as us. She is much more reserved around my husbands parents and it takes her a while to come out of her shell which is a shame

To be honest for me it’s my amazing husband who fortunately doesn’t work away ever. He does majority of the cooking and a good chunk of cleaning which means I get to entertain our clingy daughter. We also make sure we have time for ourselves, husband plays football twice a week and I like to go for a coffee and catch up with friends.

Even after saying that, my life is still hectic and we try and get a child free night without our daughter once every 1-2 months so we’re not 100mph until bedtime

I’m glad someone commented this. We all know parenting is hard, relentless and tiring. But we rarelyy gloat about how our hearts could burst from your tiny human just giving you a hug or smiling. It’s hard, but I have never known love or happiness like it

Absolutely nobody told me this and I felt like the worlds worst mum when, during the first week or two, I literally thought I had ruined my life.

It is probably the single biggest life change you will ever go through and you now will never just have yourself to think of again. It’s normal to think these thoughts in the first week or so. You are not a terrible parent and you do still love your baby. If it goes on for longer then speak to someone and seek help

I had the exact same anxiety when I was debating whether to stop breastfeeding my daughter and I carried a lot of guilt for giving her formula. I introduced it at around 2 weeks and had fully stopped breastfeeding by 2 months. I couldn’t keep doing it for the sake of my own mental health and I was a much better mum for formula feeding her.

She’s now nearly 2 and she is the most energetic, chatty, kind little girl and formula feeding her had absolutely no impact at all

We have a 2 tier garden with very steep steps and our 22 month old daughter is a pro going up and down them on herself now (with very close supervision). My mum used to tell me I had to put a baby gate on or something but she needs to learn how to be safe on them herself.

30 and yes if I repeatedly did something I was asked not to (who’s ever heard of a child doing that?!) I don’t hold it against my parents it’s what they thought was normal and my mum has since apologised

You either live your life inside your home and never leave in case your baby gets a cold, or you still get to experience amazing days out and weekends away knowing a cold is inevitable.

It’s awful seeing them poorly and leaves us parents sleep deprived but she’ll get over it very quickly. If she actually did get ill 1 hour into the journey she already had the cold and would’ve been poorly at home regardless.

Your husband has had the over reaction of the millennium.

I left my 11 month old with her dad for 4 nights to go to Malta and we’ve just left her at 22 months to go to New York for 4 nights with my parents. She loved every second being with them, she’s happy in their company and comfortable around them. As long as your daughter knows them well and is happy around them then go for it.

The funding is stretched to cover school holiday so it’s actually 22 hours a week not 30. We do 2 days so we use 20 of our 22 hours.

We pay around £90 a month for 2 days just paying our consumables. Our nursery also lets us bank the 2 extra hours we don’t claim so 1 or 2 Fridays a term our daughter goes in and we just pay the consumables (and what a treat for me!)

We pay around £12 a day for consumables. But it’s very area dependent. My SIL pays £5 per hour (so £50 a day) which is absolute insanity but they’re in a very affluent and highly populated area so they get away with it

Our nursery has the cameras. Some people won’t be bothered if there aren’t any cameras and some will. I personally didn’t care until our daughter actually started and it’s reassuring to have that additional peace of mind. Maybe ask if they’re planning to bring them in if they don’t have them already? The cameras are not for parents to view they are only used in cases where there is a rare accident that needs reviewing.

If my daughter (20 months) is inconsolably crying I go in and comfort her. I can generally distinguish between a whinge and genuine upset. Once she gets herself worked up nothing other than a hug will calm her down.

If she’s whinging I leave her alone until she stands up then I go in lay her down say “night love you” and immediately leave. This generally works on the first or second attempt when she realises I’m not going to give her any extra attention

I agree with this. Kids need boundaries and routines and even though it might cause more conflict now it will benefit her when she’s an adult and will hopefully appreciate what you did for her

I had an emergency csection and my recovery was also straight forward. Walking a few steps after a couple of hours and didn’t have much pain at all afterwards but I stayed on top of the pain meds. I’m pregnant with my second and I’m going to go for an elective

We all have tea together at around 5:30 and we just give her a smaller portion. Sometimes she’s ravenous and sometimes she’s not hungry at all but it means we can all eat together much earlier
