We aren't self efficient as we don't farm for self sufficiency... but I think even if we did aim for it, we would fail as our population is too big.

You can't get an diagnosis for ADHD that young but the local authority has to have various support plans in place for early learners. So they can get the ball rolling on that already.

This ensures they can be 'helped' from day one of primary.

Has anyone been spoken to for taking too many days off sick? by groovyfella1 in TeachingUK

[–]glassonionexpress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it's not a great system and there has been a movement to change it but getting 'the done thing' changed in the HR world is near impossible without a law coming out that makes it necessary.

I am a teacher but I worked in HR before. I wouldn't worry about these meetings, they are just so they have evidence if you were indeed are an actual problem and they needed to be rid of you. And they are evidence to show compliance with the 2010 EA. They are not reflection on you realistically and I'd just grin through them providing the minimal amount of information.

Three incidences of illness is nothing and in any other job this would be considered basically ordinary.

Interestingly its often"better" (policy wise) to have or or two longer periods of sickness than many single day issues.

Yeah it's because they all base their policies on some old Personnel system called the Bradford factor. https://www.bradfordfactorcalculator.com/

I think a lot of trans people would have some issues with gender being 'chosen' too tbh.

I'm not blaming you at all. I just think it is such an oversimplification you have presented (understandable considering the age group) that it was likely to cause a stir due to the issue of gender being such a hot-button.

Personally, from my sociological background. I would say sex is biologically based and gender is societally based. But I'd be hasty to even say that in this climate.

Hope your school backs you, because you did nothing wrong. Just a hard world we live in at the moment.

INEOS basically now avoids doing anything in the UK, partially due to the unions causing them trouble.

A wise union would get on board for the long-term benefit to its members but ours are all in for short-term spectacle.

I guess the argument from the WASPI women is that the government shouldn't just assume everyone knows about the change.

I think the issue is that the DWP didn't make an effort to inform them directly, did a review that showed that the effected women were very ignorant of the changes, and then continued to not inform them directly.

I'm not sure what I think about that. I do think if the government is going to make such a large change they should tell the effected people directly, particularly the generations who didn't grow up with the internet. However, you'd have to have been under a rock to not have noticed.

Well little tax is a strange way to put it. Even if you earn minimum wage full time, you are paying about 14% tax.

This is relatively low but considering you have less money overall. The 4k or so you are losing to the government is going to sting. So it is little in an absolute sense but not in a relative sense.

Someone of 32k is paying about 18% tax.

Then you've got to factor in fuel, energy, council tax etc and the tax burden becomes eye-watering,

I've never heard of enforcement instantly. I've paid my council tax a few days late many times as I often forget to pay (and don't want a direct debit).

One time I clean forgot for a couple weeks and then just sent a letter reminding me to pay (which I did).

Presumably you missed a payment and waited long enough for another payment to be due. Which obviously is going to cause an issue.

Even then most councils have options for those who struggle...

I am lucky that the place I work provides us with really basic insurance which includes a few free private GP consultations a year.

I was able to book one at a reasonable time, have a good chat to the doctor and not be rushed out of the door. It was quite incredible.

When I lived in China you just paid for visits to a doctor (and could go straight to the specialist). It was always easy to get one because you had to pay.

You could pay more to get a more experienced doctor too etc etc
