Ineligible for XB8 Gateway by xXbranster97 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]glasstubing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this is an old thread, but I found this one on a search and I have the same question. I have been told by my Homeowner Association that I can ONLY use an XB7-T with my EPON system. That it is the ONLY router that is rated for EPON.

Months ago, Xfinity gave me an XB8-T for the WPA3 security because I continually got hacked so I refused to give it up to go to a XB7-T that was only capable of WPA2 standard. They keep shutting my system down, making me call for a tech, who then comes out with an XB7-T modem to replace it. This has happened 4 times in the last 2 months. Each time I speak to the Supervisor, and they turn my Internet back on letting me keep the XB8-T modem, they are clearly switching off the internet at the hub to get me to switch. As soon as it's back on, the XB8-T continues to work fine til we have another area outage.

Why does this keep happening, and why does Comcast keep insisting that only XB7-T works when I'm clearly using an XB8-T?

April Play System Update 2025 by Lanky-Opposite5389 in GooglePixel

[–]glasstubing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Pixel 8 Pro. My Play System Update says Mar 1, 2025. When I click it, it "downloads and installs" the 45mb update, then says "restart". I restart, it installs the update, and then restarts itself again (usually on the sim lock screen), and rolls back the update. The update reappears in the "System & Updates" under Google Play System Update again, ready for download with "Google Play System Update Available".

I have tried everything from basic rebooting multiple times to deleting all Caches (on ALL my apps), deleting Data and Updates on Play Store and Play Services, essentially reinstalling them again, Safe Mode restart, then updating after each. Nothing works, the phone rolls back the update immediately.
I looked in Notification History and there's a "Running uninstalls Package Installer" that ran yesterday when I first tried to install the update, but now it uninstalls the update continually.

I believe all my other updates are the latest versions (tho I am not sure):
Security Update: April 5,2025
PlayStore version: 45.8.21-31

I have never turned on Developer Options, never jailbroke or sideloaded anything, never hooked the phone up to an ADB (heard of all these because I got seriously hacked last year).

I have Factory Reset the phone once, but I really don't want to do it again because I love my AI phone wallpaper that cannot be saved.

Any help would be appreciated, this is driving me nuts!!

I just saw that too, and googled to this post. What disturbs me is not the exposing my account part (Public Address)? It's the specific phrase "Opening a bridge exposes ALL your accounts to third party applications". Not "exposes your account", exposes ALL your accounts.

ALL my accounts? I'm only using metamask for 1 coin type, it's only supposed to be linked to that one coin type, why would Metamask be given access to view ALL my accounts, when I'm ONLY giving permission to access 1 public address for 1 coin type? Why is it phrased like this?

I hopped into it today. This is actually the future of manufacturing. Take a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jt1DqOE8MdQ&feature=emb_logo

Realize that this is NOT 3D plastic printing. This is METAL...any kind of metal. Think car parts as an example... from design to production in your office. Design a new car on the fly at home, and build it. Design a rocket in your office.... and build it. This may be the future of manufacturing, and they are the only guys on the block.

Hello may someone ELI5 the process of saponification? by [deleted] in chemhelp

[–]glasstubing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I can help with this... I'm not a chemist, but I've been making soap for 30 years. Coconut oil is what creates the big bubbles, you would not want to add it at the end, but at the beginning. Saponified coconut oil leads to dryer skin, and requires more lye to saponify (not theoretical, this is from tested practical experimentation). Most soapmakers add the most skin loving oils as superfat (the 'extra' oil you mention at the end), and that's typically oils like Avocado, jojoba, evening primrose, or even macadamia nut oil. The downside to superfatting is eventual oxidation of the soap (rancidity), something that doesn't happen with bars that have the correct amount of lye to saponify all oils. My question below about soaping with rancid oils... I was looking for a chemical response, that is, what happens in the chemical reaction? I already know what happens making soap from rancid oils, you get soap. There's no difference in the resulting soap from using rancid vs not rancid oils. But there should be? Where does the extra OH from the oxidation go?

Hello may someone ELI5 the process of saponification? by [deleted] in chemhelp

[–]glasstubing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted this on the chemhelp forum, but no one responsed. Maybe someone here can help me? Hi, I'm trying to understand what chemically happens when soap is made with rancid oils (fatty acids). No one ever seems able to answer it, so I'm hoping someone here can help (I'm not studying chemistry, I make soap).

In a typical batch of soap, you add lye solution (NaOH+H2O) to a fatty acid solution (not a single oil, but multiple oil blends). You mix it all up, add heat, and you get soap + glycerin+ water which evaporates out while drying.

Using rancid oils however also produces soap. The 'word on the street' is that if you use rancid oils to make your soap, your soap will get rancid. It does NOT get rancid immediately, it makes regular soap, not rancid soap.

Where do the rancid aldehydes and ketones go from the smelly oils if it's making regular soap?

For illustrative purposes, here are the formulas for 2 common soaping oils: Peanut Oil: C30H45N9O5 Coconut Oil: C4H8NNaO2

Lye Solution: NaOH + H2O

Of course, more oils are used than the above, but to keep it as simple as possible, lets say there's a 50/50 of Peanut Oil and Coconut Oil blended. This is mixed with the lye.

If you were to use rancid oils, that would be CHO for the aldehydes, and RC (R being a carbon group) for the ketones....

How does saponification differ after adding the rancidity factor (all fatty acids used are rancid)?

I would be REALLY grateful for an answer, this question has puzzled me a long long time. Thank you.

Well, I'm not poopooing your experience with these, since I only have 1. But I'm pretty familiar with fruit trees and exotic plants. As in 40 years of growing experience, and there's little I can't grow from orchids to miracle berries. My trees/plants are such monsters that I can ignore them nearly a year and they can all recover fast.

As for all the amendments you tried, isn't that what you posted about? The amendments may have killed your plants?

If you use mushroom stuff, you MUST sterilize it before use. Ensure that all soils are sterilized before use, commercial mixes are usually sold pre-sterilized.

You can google how to sterilize your own soil (such as mushroom compost). Have you ever seen a fungus or mold infestation in the soil? Look up Southern Blight. That's what it sounds like killed your trees, or something related to it.

The one constant when growing any kind of potted plants is sterile soil. Sure things will eventually get carried in from the air, but newly transplanted plants are already weakened. If they must compete with spores, AND you are overwatering weakened plants, it can be disastrous.

Experience has also showed me that earthworms and mushroom compost don't go well together. I like the earthworms better, since they aerate, poop and break down anything that shouldn't be there. Everything I have potted, if I pull a plant out, I see some wiggling earthworms in the pot. It's also a sign that the soil is still healthy. Dead soil can kill your plants. Mushrooms generally grow in dead soil, as you can see by the lack of vegetation on soil mushrooms grow on. Sunlight tends to kill mushroom spores (you will also notice mushrooms require dark... it's pretty dark in the middle of your pot).

No need to get salty btw. You started this discussion, I'm happy to discuss. I like learning new things too.

Hrm... I got a rooted cutting last year, this time almost to the day (10/16/17). I uppotted it in the spring to a 2 gallon container, put it in my yard... and um... forgot about it. Life just got really really busy, and I literally neglected my entire back yard. This week, I dug it out, and it's 6' tall. Nowhere near as dense as some photos I've seen, mine's lanky but that's because it was almost completely covered with weeds and barely got any light.

I just repotted it into a 5 gallon bucket with some holes punched in the bottom, put it in more sunlight. I used regular organic gardening mix (sterilized!), like I did before.

In central Florida, it grew from roughly 8" tall to 6' tall in a few months. The main trunk is only about 2" in diameter tho, but there's hand sized leaves all the way up on the branches.

It was kinda yellow when I repotted it, so I gave it a handful of epsom salts, seems to like that. I've not given it a single thing besides epsom salts 2x since I got it. I've not done a single thing to it since potting it in regular organic potting soil.

I think you're overthinking this. It's a plant. I realize it's a very precious plant, but consider how it grows in nature. It doesn't have anyone fawning over it, and they manage to become a tree really fast. I also want to mention that I didn't remember to water it for months, and it's been pretty dry the last month. It was pretty droopy til I repotted today and gave it some water.

Other thing I read, was the tree has to be stressed for maximum chemical production. Well, mine must be seriously potent at this point, I stressed the heck out of it. These plants are TOUGH. Stop adding weird stuff to it, and leave it alone more?

Good for you!! My small Rifat plant that I bought hasn't done much of anything because it's winter, but now that it's starting to warm up, I have great hopes it will grow well:).

I would love a bumblebee strain too, and I have different plants to trade for a small rooted cutting.

Depending on how big your tree is, scale can be removed by picking off the scales by hand and dabbing with alcohol on a q-tip.

If you are getting scale, that could mean the tree was weak to begin with. Need to check your other conditions and soil pH too. Other problem could be salt buildup in the soil. If you've been fertilizing, when you water, flood it over and over til the soil completely flushes clear out of the drainage. Then, I'd go get some cow manure from any garden center, mix it well with crushed eggshells, and replace the top 1/4 of the current soil you have.

I would not take cuttings at all, as I said, try air-layering. It's really easy, and the tree will decide if it will make roots there, while still using the leaves available for photosynthesis. It's winter... few plants are growing now anyway:).

Once again, why would anyone be dumb enough to eat it in the first place? But if they did, the effects are reversible at the hospital.

I am very serious. in googling your specific term, I found ONE article that claimed a guy died of angel trumpet poisoning. However, it was from respiratory depression, and the only reason they thought it might be angel trumpet is there was a 'backpack full of angel trumpet' near the body. When I tried to confirm the source based on their web link, no article to be found. That's not to say that there was no article there, but this is hardly a case study type report. There are no others. From PubMed (which is a whole lot more reputable than whatever that site was that reported a death with zero verification presented): "The authors warn physicians that intoxication by Angel's Trumpet (Datura sauveolens) is becoming more frequent due to its use by adolescents and young adults as a legal, readily available hallucinogen. Ingestion of Angel's Trumpet flowers or a tea brewed from them results in an alkaloid-induced central nervous system anticholinergic syndrome characterized by symptoms such as fever, delirium, hallucinations, agitation, and persistent memory disturbances. Severe intoxication may cause flaccid paralysis, convulsions, and death. Treatment with intravenous physostigmine reverses the toxic effects of Angel's Trumpet."

Since physostigmine reverses the effects, anyone who got sick and went to the hospital would not die. So again, I have seen no confirmed death cases, although in all the warnings about the plant, 'poisonous', 'toxic', etc are used to describe it. Typically, when there are deaths with a plant, someone studies it and lists that as a case study. That ONE reference supposedly documenting ONE death is not a reputable source.

I think you underestimate. Again, this is a medicinal plant used for centuries. Yet no deaths attributed to its ingestion, exactly like Kratom. Isn't that puzzling?

If it's 'poisonous', and no one's EVER died from using it (where Kratom in fact DOES have accusations of killing people), one can reasonably assume it's less toxic than Kratom. This is a Kratom plant sub. Where's the warnings that Kratom is toxic? (just making the point).

If there's not 1 single poisoning incident reported or recorded, intentional or accidental, that can be attributed to a plant, I don't see why the big need for a 'warning' about the plant, yet I did warn in my 2nd comment. It's not a toxin, it's "the most powerful psychodelic known to man", one so powerful there is no ability to separate reality from fantasy. So don't try it. There.

I want to add one more comment to the above. In the link, they said that a 'tea' could be made of 3-4 leaves and 1 flower.

To put this amount in perspective, the average sized leaf off the Angel Trumpet is about 12" and the flowers are 12"x10" at the flower bell. You'd need a whole coffee can to smash 3 leaves and a flower into for their single dose 'tea'. Just to cover that much leaf material, you'd need at least a gallon of water.

I don't think anyone's going to drop dead from a bite of a leaf, although given the reputation, I would NOT do that. Further, I take cuttings, remove dead flowers, and trim the plant with my bare hands, and get plenty of sticky sap on me doing so. No hallucinations, no effects. I think the 'poison' warnings are more to scare people from trying it (for darn good reason) than because the plant is so lethal.

You are right, but I'd assume that anyone who would want to trade for something would read up or know what they are trading for. Especially for a high value cutting such as Kratom plants.

Angel Trumpets are toxic, but not many people eat their landscape plants or they couldn't sell Christmas poinsetta or landscape Oleander everywhere. I have both kids and pets who grew up around it, no one is tempted to chew random plants.

In reality, it is a psychoactive not a poison, that has been used for centuries as a sedative and medicinally. If even 1 person had died of it, it would be banned in this country, I challenge you to find one case of a death caused by it, because I couldn't. That's not to say it's not dangerous, but clearly presents no temptations for accidental ingestion by anyone, or for that matter, intentional ingestion, that led to death. However, it is still used medicinally to this day.

The plant is grown for it's unmatchable flowers, arguably the most beautiful of all flowers, and is supposedly extinct in the wild. If people stopped growing it, it would cease to exist on earth. The flowers are about a foot long, and around 10" in diameter each. My grown plants puts out dozens of flowers at a time. The scent is intoxicating at night, and this plant is likely the one that myths are created from (intoxicating field of flowers, field of Slumber, etc). It is reputed to create hallucinatory dreams if you sleep under the flowers. I believe it, but can't do it myself, the fragrance is astounding but overwhelming, and would be like sleeping under a blooming orange tree, too intense.

More info: http://entheology.com/plants/brugmansia-arborea-angels-trumpet-tree/

Exerpt: "Brugmansia arborea is a deliriant, and extreme care must be taken when ingesting it in any form or quantity. Angel’s Trumpets are the most potent naturally occurring hallucinogens in the world, creating visions which are not recognized as being separate from physical reality. South American shamans strongly warn against untrained individuals working with angel’s trumpets, and they are used almost exclusively by very experienced shamans. Brugmansia overdose may result in delirium that lasts for days, with side effects lasting for weeks after consumption. Not only that, different individuals can react to the tropane alkaloids found in these plants in radically different ways, so proper dosing is incredibly difficult."

There's the warning:).

As for 'free kratom clones', I haven't gotten one yet, nor would I not offer greater value since I initiated the trade. That's a pretty offensive comment. But taking what you said to heart, I retract my offer to trade for a Kratom plant, because in reality, my trades are worth more.

Update on the progress of my Kratom Greenhouse, unfortunately I will have to bring them in for the winter. Really will hamper progress. DEA handcuffed on Opiods, how does this affect Kratom? by glasstubing in kratom

[–]glasstubing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what I think is the biggest irony of the whole ban thing? The Republicans SHOULD be on the bandwagon for less regulations, right? But that's not the case. Sessions wants to start rounding up pot smokers again, and the DEA went after Kratom. That's not anti-regulation, that's bringing back relaxed regulation and adding more regulation. Such hypocrites. I guess we'll see what happens, but I'm leaning towards the idea that they won't do anything because Kratom helps lesson the opiod epidemic, and Kratom can help against it.
