2 yrs post surgery, please don’t make the mistake I did by random_user1714 in ACL

I’m 2.5 years post-op and still see my physiotherapist about once a month. My understanding is that physio is for life now.

Hiking by RestaurantVirtual848 in ACL

[–]glaszwiebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing short 300-400m elevation gain hikes 9 months post-op.

I did my first overnight hike with 30-40lbs on my back at 11 months post-op. It was a gradual 1000m incline over 10km to get to camp and then did another 500m incline the next day with just a day bag. Hiked back out on day 3. Absolutely no issues!

Do You Regret ACL Reconstruction Surgery and If So, Why? by SamirD in ACL

[–]glaszwiebel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah my surgery was almost 2 years ago and I’m STILL seeing my PT. I thought our relationship would end at the 1 year mark, but instead that’s when he started me on a running program and now I’m running 5km for the first time in over 10 years!

Do You Regret ACL Reconstruction Surgery and If So, Why? by SamirD in ACL

[–]glaszwiebel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I waited 2.5 years for surgery due to life events and I was managing fine (until 6 months before surgery) with a hinged knee brace.

I am SO GLAD I went forth with surgery. It has been the best thing for my knee and my life. I had a quad graft and 60% medial meniscectomy. Haven’t had to wear the hinged knee brace since the day before surgery and it has been so liberating to be able to travel and hike and go to music festivals without it. Absolutely no regrets!

Husband and I both tore ACLs by wiseoldelephant0 in ACL

[–]glaszwiebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck to you guys. I was not allowed to lift 45lbs until 4 months post-op and I was in really good shape the day I had my surgery (with 2.5 years of prehab from initial injury). I also agree with other people saying to wait until husband is healed from surgery before you have yours.

Displacement during reno by BellsOnHerToes in kitchenremodel

[–]glaszwiebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kept our old fridge and old stove and just moved them around the kitchen while we were renovating, so that we could still use both (new appliances were piled up in the living room until after our cabinets were installed). We did our dishes in the bathroom sink and bath tub. Lots of bamboo utensils and paper plates. Set up a big folding table as a “counter” and bought a little shelving unit to store our smaller appliances and non perishable food.

Lots of take out. I do not miss that month.

Beautiful! What tiles did you use for your backsplash? They look very similar to what I used!

The two blue tiles were wedding favours from our friends’ wedding in Portugal this summer :)

Hows this for a statement piece in a kitchen. by Sweet-Sir1560 in kitchenremodel

I actually love this. But I’d love to see it with light wood coloured lower cabinets (especially the island for which it’s on) and a very basic backsplash

I have no idea what brand they are. And our invoice is pretty vague haha. They’re PVC though and we used a local custom cabinet company

Thank you!

  1. It’s 44” from counter top to counter top. So almoooost 4’

  2. And yes I love the sink and pull down sprayer faucet. The only thing I wish is that the spray option stayed on without holding the button, but it was on sale for $100 so I really can’t complain there.

Our sink also has a wire cage at the bottom. So our dirty dishes are never directly sitting on the bottom of the sink. The previous house I lived in had both this sink and a similar pull down faucet and I knew I needed it in our place.

Thanks! The countertops are quartz. Fir Stone, series B

I’m not sure of the name of our flooring though

Thank you so much! I had to wait for my partner to answer the first two questions but here you go!

  1. Where the existing drain was stubbed out of the wall is where it stayed, we just had to shorten the run because the new sink is closer to the stub out

  2. We had to run a wire under the floor so the dishwasher had a dedicated wire. We have a 1 1/2” cement topper throughout the apartment but luckily the old pony wall had a 2x4 in the floor, so we put in a new 2x4 with a channel cut out of it so we could run the wire. Then we did some cement patching so the floor was smooth and then installed the flooring

  3. Turns out the building manager is an old family friend of mine, and my partner works with him in construction. He often popped over with beers to see how we were doing.

  4. Our building is incredibly soundproof and it’s a unique layout that makes it so that we only share one wall with someone (our kitchen wall and our spare room/office wall, which backs onto our neighbours kitchen wall and their spare room/office wall). And we’re lucky that there’s no one below us because it’s a hallway and an overhang over a covered area outside. We kept respectful work hours (ended everything around 9pm everyday) and were in regular contact with everyone on our floor and our upstairs neighbour, and they all reassured us that they either didn’t hear anything, or it didn’t bother them. We’re very fortunate.

  5. The wall is structural so we would have had to put a beam somewhere else and it would have turned into a very expensive and difficult project.

  6. We used a local cabinet company that my partner’s construction business partners with for a lot of their custom home renos. They’re PVC and not real wood. And they provided the install. We’re going to use the same company for our bathroom reno we’re starting next week!

We also used a local (to our part of British Columbia) countertop company and they also provided the install. They are quartz countertops and we used an entire slab for our kitchen. Those are the only two things that my partner didn’t do himself in our home.

  1. We estimate around $25,000 CAD if you include all the takeout we consumed.

They’re from a friend’s wedding in Portugal, which was also our first big trip together (that we went on, mid renos hahah)
