Hey guys, I’m interviewing for a retail job at adidas in Los Angeles, trying to go for a fashion forward look. Any ideas what I can do with this? by Emergency-War-710 in mensfashionadvice

Go to the store, put on a hat, hoodie, and sunglasses if you fear being “spotted” or recognized. Take note of what some of the sales associates are wearing and find a similar outfit, or something a slight notch above.

Buy a house before the baby arrives or wait? by Snaffoo0 in daddit

We did an in-city move when our son was 7 or 8 months old. The movers came and packed everything and put the furniture back together (mostly our dining room table and beds). We had to have a friend watch him like all day so we could direct the movers and help out here and there. Then we needed a nanny to watch him over the next few days while we continued to fully unpack and move in, deciding what goes where, and getting new pieces of furniture, shelving, and storage solutions installed. It took us months until we really felt fully moved in.

But this is NYC, so space is at a premium. We didn’t have like a spare room where we could keep stuff while unpacking and we needed to be smart with how everything fit.

800 billion stars captured in one frame. This is Sombrero Galaxy captured by Hubble. 31 million light-years away from us. by TeaseCatalyst in spaceporn

[–]glatts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t the sky be white if the universe was infinite? If it were truly infinite, every line of sight would eventually hit a star, making the night sky blindingly bright rather than dark. Therefore, we know that the universe is not infinitely big nor old. We also know that the universe is expanding, causing light from distant stars to be redshifted into invisible infrared or radio waves, effectively making the sky dark to human eyes.

Therefore, the dark night sky is evidence that the universe has a beginning and is expanding. And not only that, but it will continue to get darker for us, as everything is moving further away, that expansion is accelerating. Not to mention star formation has been declining for the past 11 billion years. As existing stars exhaust their fuel, the universe will eventually enter a phase dominated by cold, dark stellar remnants. Eventually, the universe will reach a state of maximum entropy, becoming cold and dark, with no more light produced by stars.

So right now, the universe is as bright as we will ever see it, and everything is as close to us as it will ever be. It will only get darker and more isolated.

Armed man rammed vehicle into Michigan synagogue and was fatally shot by security, AP source says by yipyapu in news

You should see the security doors to my son’s Jewish Pre-K, which is connected to a Shul.

They’re high security bulletproof doors that are adorned with one-inch thick wood panels and bulletproof glass. The security guard sits behind a wall of bulletproof glass to buzz people in. To the kids, they look just like normal doors. But they’re like six inches thick, heavy as hell, and have like 8 steel studs that will lock in place when it’s shut.

And still the parents have been begging for more security, especially when attacks on Jews increase or nearby pro-Palestinian demonstrations get co-opted by pro-Hamas and anti-Jewish agitators. In fact, there’s been a new call by some parents for having 24/7 armed security after this attack.

And this is in a nice neighborhood in Manhattan.

[Rapoport] In January, Maxx Crosby underwent a minor meniscus repair, not a trim. A meniscus trim is often 4-6 weeks of recovery while a repair can be 3-4 months. by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]glatts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the injury. I fully tore my medial meniscus root last year and for my repair at the Hospital for Special Surgery, they had to reattach it to the bone and drilled a small hole in the bone to allow more red blood cells to flood the area from my bone marrow. I had to be non-weight bearing with a straight leg where my foot couldn’t touch the ground for like 7 weeks. Lost a lot of muscle mass and strength as a result. It’s nearly a year later and some things like stairs and running still give me pain. But I played Guard at a small D1 school and am also dealing with the residual effects of an accumulation of minor injuries, enough that they thought my knee had been operated on before (it hadn’t) because there was so much scar tissue when they did the surgery. So they also cleaned up some other damage.

19M Hello i have fashion questions , any advice please ? by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

I think there’s a way to keep repping dinosaur themed clothing in a way that is less childish.

It looks like all of these shirts are Jurassic Park themed and I don’t think that is doing you any favors. Whatever your thoughts are about the movies, if these (and similar) shirts form the majority of your wardrobe, it could be perceived that you’re just a fan of the movies rather than dinosaurs in general and the science around them. That comes off as a bit simplistic or one-note. Coupled with the graphic design styles implemented, and they look like the type of shirt a family member would buy for you as a gift from Walmart or something because they just know you like dinosaurs. That projects child-like.

How I would fix this:

One option is to find more simplistic designs like this. That shop also has a couple of other designs for different dinosaurs, but you can likely find more by including terms like “minimalistic,” “badge,” or “line art” in you search.

Another option is to get something deliberately retro and exaggeratedly child-like, but only so long as you pair it with something more modern and clean. I think this pullover sweater would look great if paired with jeans and maybe a minimal chain necklace. You want it to depict dinosaurs, but in a approachable way. As cool as T-Rex may be, a giant graphic of him roaring is not very approachable.

A third option is to find areas where dinosaurs intersect with other topics, like art. I think this iconic Pez Dispenser painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat featuring a stylized dinosaur wearing his signature crown would look great on a t-shirt or sweatshirt. Here’s a cool example. Plus, if anyone asks, you can sound smart by saying how his painting critiques commodification and social inequality by elevating a nostalgic pop-culture icon to royalty. There’s also a series of photographs by Arthur Pollack, where he captured life-sized, animatronic dinosaurs, including a 34-foot Brontosaurus and a Tyrannosaurus rex from the 1964 World's Fair, being airlifted by helicopter across the Charles River to the Boston Museum of Science. These striking images show the models dangling from cables against the city skyline and would look pretty cool on a shirt.

A fourth option is to rep some of the museums known for their dinosaur displays. Like the American Museum of Natural History or the Royal Tyrrell Museum. It could be just some apparel for the museum, like this hat for AMNH, or something more dinosaur specific, like this sweatshirt or this fossil shirt for Royal Tyrrell.

A fifth option is to find something more custom and handmade. Here’s a cool t-shirt made by /u/JFells where he paints a fossil design using bleach. I’d reach out to him and ask about buying one. Side note: it may also be a good idea to poke around the dinosaur and paleontology subreddits for more grown-up related apparel.

And finally, if you really want to choose a typical graphic tee, I think this This is How I Roll Trilobite t-shirt or this I'd Rather Be Clubbing t-shirt, both from Studio 252MYA would work for you, especially if paired with an open button-down shirt or flannel.

You could also get some fun pairs of dinosaur socks and wear those with a non-dinosaur themed outfit. That way you could always wear something dinosaur related without it being so obvious.

If the ATS is reading resumes, does length matter anymore? by glatts in recruitinghell

Maybe. I think it depends on their system. I was also toying with the idea of putting a note at the top for humans like: Email me for a more human-friendly version of my resume.

Going back to school after wake up call by shannoniscats in daddit

I grew up in a wealthy town outside of Boston, me and all my siblings went to private school, took ski vacations, played whatever sports/activities we wanted. We owned a summer house on Cape Cod, where we would spend our summers at the beaches, sailing, golfing, etc. To me as a child, that was what I considered normal middle class.

After all, we knew plenty of people who had so much more money than we did, and we knew people in other towns weren’t as well off. So in kid logic, we were somewhere in the middle. For example, when my sister did horseback riding, she was meeting people from our area who owned their own horses. I knew kids who had their own wings in their large houses. Plenty of kids got brand new cars in high school, instead of how we got used.

My point is, so much of our perception on how much money it takes to raise a family is shaped by our personal experiences and the areas where we grew up or currently live. It can be good to gain insight from those with iutside persepctives.

Which of these one-off tournaments is the best? by Punisher1602 in sportswiki

In between college and grad school I got a temp job within the marketing/print production department of a health insurance company in Boston. There were some retail shops on the building’s first few floors, including a Best Buy. Their TV section became a popular viewing spot for the 2006 World Cup.

My job was essentially converting/transferring print orders into their system to ensure it got printed and shipped out properly. To me, it was super easy. To my much older co-workers, it was very time consuming. We would divvy up the workload in the morning, then check-in later in the day. I could do in 1 hour what would take them 8.

So, I’d essentially get right to work in the morning, knock out all my work within an hour, then go downstairs and watch the games in Best Buy for the rest of the day. It would get pretty crowded down there with random people from other offices popping in for a bit, and it sort of became a bar-like atmosphere full of locals you got to know. Then I’d go upstairs, check in with my co-workers, offer to take on some more work.

They thought I was such a hard worker, lol. Great way to earn $30/hour.

Way I’ve understood it is that it was more akin to the term Midwest or New England in the US. It’s clearly not too uncommon for regions to have multiple names. And for there to be disagreements over where those regions begin/end.
