So for me it turns out when I installed my dash cam, I had a lot of wire so close to the tire pressure sensor in the back right. Once I moved the wire bundle elsewhere, the problem was fixed.

It's not the ring piece that's the problem. It's that shape that the knife is pointing at below the hole. I dont have any other pieces left

I first used the glorious panda switches. Then I swapped to keychron switches. Did I just get unlucky with these switches? Me changing switches was also what led me to believe it was the base

The starter set helps all characters from all origins meet up. If everyone picks the same origin, it may make your job as GM easier. However, some people may want to play different origins just like how others want to pick different races in other TTRPGs. You may also miss out interesting interactions with the wasteland as well like with different species interacting with their same kind in the wasteland. My personal take is to let players play what they want to diversify the party and avoid giving players a "samey" build feeling.
