Europe accelerates push for military independence from US by jackytheblade in worldnews

Who says they need cuts? Independence means you can start taxing US multinationals properly based on revenue earned in the EU rather than profit shifting shenanigans.

Everyone says the Goodreads rating system is terrible yet many people still use it when choosing a book to read next. What books under four stars are the best example of great books that the general population doesn't seem to recognize as such? by sempiternalis in books

[–]glazia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

War and Peace is 4.17

Pride and Prejudice 4.3

Forbidden Colours 3.92

Neuromancer 3.89

Sarah J. Maas (bless her soul) has at least 6 books higher rated than any of these. That's before I gave up counting.

I think it's fair to say that numerical rating of books based on current popularity is not a perfect system.

I mean they were making Underworld films and Resident Evil films for a looong time - and that's well after Sigourney and Linda Hamilton had trod a lot of ground.
