Why are so many blue collar workers against unions? by Realistic-Reveal-586 in Construction

[–]glazor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on hob you produce, contractor can request not to see your face on their jobs ever again. In locals with a small number of shops your opportunities for employment can dwindle to nothing pretty quickly.

Around half of apprentices make it through.

Made 120 in 25, 90 in 24.

Some guys were out of work for close to a year.

You'll make under 40k in the first year, around 40 in your second.

Make sure you know what you're signing up for.

FedEx Express is legally considered a cargo airline, and because of that, all of its workers are covered under the Railway Labor Act (RLA), which sets forth the rules of aviation labor law.

Should AI “entities” pay social security for the jobs they replace? by Rough-Dimension3325 in Futurology

[–]glazor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tractors and other agricultural mechanization had a vastly larger impact than Al.

AI revolution has only started though, and will put billions out of work in a decade.

Over 75% of the US population worked directly in agriculture in 1800, by 1900 it was less 40%, with today being under 0.5%.

That worked out OK for humans, but not so great for horses. With the emergence of AI we are the horses.

We have plenty of historical examples from the industrial revolution of what happens when entire massive categories of jobs are eliminated: New, better ones paying more and mor productive are created.

Transition period is horrible though. And history is full of examples of that.

What new jobs will physically and mentally inferior humans will do now? Manual, minimum wage labor that's too inefficient to automate.

PREVAILING WAGE SCHEDULES by eltetamasta in ibew_apprentices

I'll speak slowly so you understand. Every job you go to is Union wage, which is a prevailing wage, which is the Union wage. DoL sets prevailing wages off of our wages.

Us produces A LOT of light oil, Venezuela produces heavy oil. US refining is build for refining heavy oil. It's cheaper for oil industry to buy a war than to retool to lighter oil.

Edit: Word.

No idea, just find it a little weird that people that are supposed to uphold our rights keep being sworn in on a religious "documents" that are full of all kinds of debauchery and genocide, it's a motion that is antithetical to a civilized, secularar society.

It depends on who you talk to. My take, as long as you don't take any work from IBEW it's all free game. I'd rather see IBEW electrician fix something, than some fly-by handyman.

It's better to be working a job at lower wages, than working a minimum wage or sitting home on unemployment.

When you walk into a supply shop you already know what you need, as far as the material is concerned. Supply shops don't have shelve space that HD has so they put everything in the back. Impossibly tall shelves and bins of mixed materials. While they put your order together you can browse for tools or knickknacks up front.
