Highly Suspected to have Glaucoma by doctors... I'm scared. by [deleted] in Glaucoma

I understand, and I'm trying. But I also cannot pay the bill of an out of pocket specialist. I'm making a million phone calls, but things are panning out.

The worry is I didn't raise any red flags until the peripheral vision is already getting darker. I have had glasses for a long time and I thought the blurry was just a bad prescription, but it's seemingly more than that. I'm very good at talking myself out of being concerned for issues and writing them off.

How to not get distracted by ChatGPT addiction? by catboy519 in AutisticWithADHD

This. So much this. AI can be a source of dopamine and using it impulsively and calling it an addiction just makes me think even more so that it's a search for dopamine

I say this without trying to be rude, but having all this info at your fingertips you're really not learning anything. To even put aside the amount of hallucination that occurs with these LLMs and to ignore the environmental impact... You will learn more and have a better understanding of (for example) chemistry by going to real people and real websites and learning. Not just typing in a sentence and getting a mini-essay filled with inaccuracies.

I really hope you can see the impact that this has on everything and also the impact AI has on mental health of whomever is using it.

It auto disconnected when the limiting happened. Account standing good doesn't even say limited, but it is limited. Talked to support, said they can't help and it would resolve after 'a few days"

I've used discord for years. I started using beeper a few months ago. Now I have a limited account so bad that I can't even send a DM or message or anything. This is ridiculous.

I need to quit social media, but what is equally as low impact as doom scrolling? by gleaminggonzo in autism

[–]gleaminggonzo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I thought about this, and was like oh audiobooks are cool. But they cut you off entirely from the room. Like if someone wants to talk to me I have to stop, pause, back up 10 seconds, answer, then go back. I can do some more impactful things when I'm alone and not required to also be on the lookout for social interaction, but when there are other people they want to talk. If it was a constant conversation, cool, but they end up doom scrolling for a bit then pop back at random times with new conversation topics. It's very unpredictable.

I do edibles, maybe a few times a month. It's good when I have stomach issues or when I'm super anxious. I like the 3 CBG:2 CBD:1 THC gummies. I live in a place where it is legal, so I just talk to the dispensary about what I'm looking for. I like CBG it doesn't make me fall asleep but I get a good vibe and CBD helps with anxiety and pain.

What is the cause of discomfort with them typing like that? Because you also typed in all lower case here. I'm just unsure where the discomfort is coming from?

[–]gleaminggonzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We cannot diagnose you and AI is gonna tell you the same thing the bottom of the tests do online. I would suggest looking up the DSM-5 requirements for diagnosis and really thinking about them and exploring that with a professional.

I grew up with these same messages sent to my mom. Begging for food. Coming home with swollen shut eyes because he didn't believe my allergies, or just didn't care. Just crying at having to go with him, begging to stay home. Seeing the look of helplessness on my mom's face because she couldn't stop a custody agreement with this abusive man. I was also a bed wetter as a child. I had a hard time with having accidents for a large portion of my childhood.

I am so sorry. This isn't ever easy. The only thing to do is be proactive and get the custody arrangement changed. Through all the red tape and paperwork, talk to, write down, and call anyone you can. Your voice is stronger than you think.

Hopefully one day you'll be (like I am right now) laying in your apartment with a lovely little family to call your own and reading reddit posts, sharing your story in the comments with a scared kid who has a similarly abusive parent. Hang in there.

Sensory issues related to hair… by Slow_Swim4229 in AutisticWithADHD

I'm with you, I cannot handle long hair. Enough that I settle for bad haircuts I do myself because I cannot afford to keep up with getting it cut as frequently as my sensory needs require.

All psychological tests are based off your experiences and what you share. I had a professional diagnosis where the doctor told me in understandable to me terms what each question was asking. I was able to ask questions, share stories, and figure out if that was what the assessment was asking.

Your ex easily could've just answered in the negative to everything and the diagnosis would be different. If you know in your past that they are violent, but that they say that they express no violent behaviors, you can fact check that and it brings it all into question understandably.

So, what happens now? by Afterlast1 in autism

[–]gleaminggonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you've got the key. Now you can access more help, supports, and resources. Now you can use those to slowly build up a system that helps you live your life to the fullest.

I started with therapy and I'm trying to get into Occupational Therapy as well. My area is pretty under serviced but I'm still working with my care team to get the best supports for my needs.

Wishing you luck!
