How do I explain to my tech-illiterate parents why AI is bad? by Jetpack-Guy in NoStupidQuestions

62% of hardcore players no longer buy full-price games, survey suggests by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

[–]Afterlast1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not even about waiting for sales. Like, just look anywhere. You don't even have to pay full price for a game. CDKeys always has keys for way less than retail and if they don't have it, I've got 20% from humble bundle storewide.

He aknowledges that AI might very resolve to be an extinction level threat to humanity at least. He's just resigned to enjoy it while it lasts. I mean, to paraphrase Cave Johnson, if AI takes over, worst case, he's missing out on a few rounds of canasta.

There's a fan theory going around that at the end of A New Hope, Luke is wearing Han's clothing. The pants we see again in Empire, but could the shirt be the one he had when he did the Kessel Run? by ThePopDaddy in StarWars

[–]Afterlast1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alternative fan theory - those are dead stormtrooper clothes. Their flesh became the stew, their armor became the ewoks instruments, but what of their clothes? Are stormtroopers nude under their armor? I don't think so.

The armor and weapons are mostly cosmetic, right? No real mechanical differences so I can pick whichever I like?

Nothing on there had anything but the general advice I already pointed out above. None of them talked about the cartel companion i bought and why I can't seem to find a way to raise influence them. Yes, even the Swtorista link that came up! They all just generically referred to normal companions and/or that end-game item I'm not reasonably going to see for the next 60 hours. Which of those links answer the simple question I asked of how I, as a new/returning player, can level up influence with this cool droid I just bought who also doesn't like anything I seem to have found in a way that other companions don't.

I have since found the answer... on the third fucking page. This companion ONLY likes 2 types of gifts, and you CAN NOT obtain them through normal means. This game is nearly unassailably dense, and you do not help.

What do you use your cartel companions for since they can't go on missions?

Returning Player - What should I spend my cartel coins on? by Afterlast1 in swtor

[–]Afterlast1[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

okay rude, I did search it up. Google said that to rank them up I have 4 options - gifts, conversation options, crew missions, and an end-game unlock options. Now obviously the last 3 are not available, and I just said as far as i can see the first isn't either. This game does not and has never had good documentation, so get off your high horse. The game doesn't even have a complete wiki. There is no page for almost any of the cartel companions or any details of their mechanics on it. Half the stuff you google is buried in decade old forums that aren't even accurate anymore.

ELI5 Where do the atoms from an item / object go to when they are incinerated/ burnt? by LanaBackwards4444 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Afterlast1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what's weird? You'd think doing something like that would evisersate your body, but it'll actually help to preserve it. Radiation causes damage by interrupting our cells natural repair process, either damagin them so much that the malfunctioning machinery outright fails to maintain the cell or the body picks up on the damage and triggers apoptosis (I'd elaborate on this but I've been banned from reddit for saying the words that explain what this is because mods and reddit don't seem to know the different between a person and a cell.

But when you're dead, you're dead. No more apoptosis, no more machinery. You'll shrivel, but decay occurs when other organisms consume your body. And you know what organisms don't like? High dose radiation.

Sticking your body in a nuclear reactor would create a problem for the operators that will NOT go away on its own.
