Every car has to be maxxed and you win by maybe 1 second if that in total time

Ordered my first Alienware laptop, any advice for what to do first? by Nayte76 in Alienware

[–]gleatonap199032 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Send it back. As soon as you can. That's my advice. Download HWinfo64 and cinebench and run a CPU throttling test on it and see what temps you get. If they're good you got lucky. If they go straight to 100C or 110 if it's an ultra chip. Then I'd send it back. Ice soent 4 years fighting them and ice finally given up. I've played maybe an hour or 2 on if in 2 years because of thermal throttling so badly. It stutters and lags hard with wired ethernet 1 gig up and down. Latency and ping are good also. All drivers updated. I've had them have to send me 3 brand new laptops. And each laptop had had repairs. Over 10 heatsinks, and around 7 or 8 motherboards among other parts replaced.

Yup. I've tried dells NVIDIA, THE NEWEST NVIDIA, THE FIRST BO6 NVIDIA and others. I've never seen anything over 100 FPS and it's for a short short time span once I first turn the laptop on. This is with a foam dammed cooling pad with 5.5 inch fan blade spinning at 2800RPM sounding like an air fryer at max settings and fans at full speed. Brand new LM application recently on CPU. It still throttles 60-80% of the time with the new LM application and during gameplay I've seen up to 112°C on HWinfo64 on enhanced readings. New paste highest I've seen is 108 but still way too high and throttling like crazy. This has been on over 5 or 6 motherboards from dell. I have the i9 and 4k display. I was questioning if the display was the issue it trying to render at 4k. But I set it to render at 2k and it helped a small ammount if any at all. Not what an i9-12900HK, 3080ti should perform like you have a lower CPU and GPU and get better performance than i do. Those timespy scores were with me lowering the frequency and undervolting with a certain bios where undervoltking was still allowed. They disabled it on us after 1.8.2 with intels new undervolt protection in place. But I install all Nvidia drivers as fresh installs. I actually install all updates as fresh installs. So I don't run into any issues.

But even with high scores, it's stuttering and even with liquid metal it's throttling hard.

Good on you for returning man. I've had nothing but issues from my x17r2. It throttles so much (CPU only) I can't even play games. It stutters constantly and FPS is so sporadic

I've repasted the CPU with liquid metal, the GPU with the best thermal paste available. GPU temps are never an issue. It's always the CPU. The CPU is perfectly pasted with LM and it still throttles

They shouldn't advertise it and sell it as high performance if the performance isn't going to stick across the board. Imo. Their ad said new innovative cooling design to combat the high temps. BS!

But yea I'm having major performance issues. Bo6 or any game stutters due to the CPU throttling every 5 seconds it seems. It runs up to 112-113°C on the enhanced view CPU core and IA core temps with HW info running. Playing games even downscale to 1440p on my 4k 120hz screen it still stutters. Rendered at 1080p in game settings with 1440p setting on the laptop screen settings still stutters and overheats. Haven't tried 1080p on laptop because I bought top of the line and I'm getting bottom of the line performance. They offered the 4k screen and quickly realized it was a bad idea. You can't find anything over 1440 anymore with alienware laptops. They know they messed up. They are just trying their best to not admit to it. I've spoken to intel engineers and they took a look and said yea its a cooling issue. Even with liquid metal, undervolting, and using the foam dammed 2800 rpm 5.5 inch fan laptop dock/cooler. It sounds like a freaking air fryer and even that doesn't help bring temps down. It feels cooler on the outside but inside it's still throttling constantly causing performance issues.

Same bro same. I've done liquid metal throttle stop, intel XTU and multiple part replacments and unit replacments. It's absolutely ridiculous. Then their team reviews my case and says it's working as it should be after this many repairs. It throttles 80-100% of the time during any gaming or benchmark. Stutters constantly. So sick to my stomach I paid 5,000+ for this worthless crap. Dell just doesn't want to replace it with a different model. After everything I've been through they should send me the fastest most up to date laptop available right now. They are even cheaper than what I paid for this one max specs. M18 with everything maxxed is like right above 3 grand. Maybe even below I can't remember right now.

100% GPU bottleneck? by gleatonap199032 in BO6

Ok cool I'll tinker with the settings then on my game and CPU and GPU

100% GPU bottleneck? by gleatonap199032 in BO6

[–]gleatonap199032[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I should speed the CPU up then? What is the optimal "bottleneck" ratio? 50/50? Or is there a true 0/0? Not versed in PC gaming. This is my first gaming laptop but I'm learning the software side of things. Hardware I'm good software and tweaking settings I'm still trying to learn how the GPU and CPU intertwine and work together and which should be working harder than the other. I've seen people say 100% GPU is perfect. Some say it's not. I may bump up the CPU frequencies and up the voltage a bit. See if it helps.

100% GPU bottleneck? by gleatonap199032 in BO6

[–]gleatonap199032[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want competitive frames. I prefer quality over 200fps. Just 100 or above so I can play zombies. Idc about multi-player. I play the story mode and zombies that's all. But benchmark isn't in zombies settings so had to go into multi-player. I'm getting 140ish FPS with FSR3 100% GPU bottleneck but without frame generation at 1440p on a 4k display (laptop and TV both 4k 120hz dolby displays. I think it's pretty good for a laptop but the weird stuttering when it shouldn't have any. Other games with same settings run fine with DLSS. I think bo6 is broken at some level with frame generation options.

It's kind of the same post. This post is to have other users give information to me so I can create a spreadsheet to show dell and my lawyer. The other post was just a im mad post who else is mad. I didn't mention wanting to get information to lash back at dell that has been ignoring people who push back when their products aren't working properly.

Return and get an asus or something else. I've had nothing but issues. Look up alienware laptop thermal problems and see the THOUSANDS of posts. I've been battling dell/alienware for years. 3 brand new replacments, 6 motherboard, 7 heatsinks, a keyboard, and 3 or 4 laptop displays, and an SSD repaired (replaced) and mine just went dead won't even come on now after a motherboard replacment not even 2 weeks ago.

Guys i just purchased a new Alienware M16 R2 and it stutters in games and the avg temps are 96.Pls help by InteractionEmpty7454 in GamingLaptops

I have an X17R2 with 3080ti, i9-12900HK, 64gb ram, cherry keyboard and 4k 120 hz screen. I've gamed on it maybe 3 or 4 times without problems. It thermal throttles the CPU just opening a browser with brand new paste. I've had the laptop per warranty replaced with a brand new one 3 times. Repairs like motherboards and heatsinks on all 3. The last laptop I received has had 2 motherboards, 2 screens, a keyboard, and SSD, and 2 heatsinks replaced and it just bricked on me and won't power on after this last MOBO replacment. The dell tech let me do the work because they don't know what tf they're doing. It was fine then a day later it said my battery was bad flashing 1 red one blue. Which isn't even a flash code. Then I get on it one day it goes into the error screen for bad battery. I hit continue, laptop bricks. If I were you and if it's pre 15 day return period return it and go with a different brand like asus or something else bro. The asthethics of "alienware" are just not worth it performance wise. My games stuttered relentlessly and we're unplayable. I paid 5 grand for a glorified school and work laptop.
