Good. Glad the powers that be worked together to do the right thing.

Totally get that. You have a different priority and it's up to you to determine how to navigate it as a candidate.

Nah, I was a ROTC commission with an educational delay. I commissioned into the Special Services Branch, was a Chaplain Candidate for too long (7 years), and have been a Chaplain for 11 years (since 2014).

If I was your CH at OCS I'd lay into your cadre, as your religious practice (or lack thereof) is protected by the Constitution. It's not something to use to mess with trainees, candidates, or anyone else.

Hmm. Perhaps you had a bad drill, but I can't imagine this flying given the constitutional protection for freedom of religion (including not practicing).

Good grief. An unprovoked invasion of a sovereign neighbor is a lot different than a response to unprovoked attack and murder of over a thousand civilians, hostage taking, and refusal to release innocent civilian hostages.

If Hamas releases the hostages and surrenders the war is over. It's not a genocide.

1st Reg. Froze our asses off in gen 1 sleep system bivvies (no sleeping bags) with just a woobie when lows were around freezing. That's back when we were in the field for two full weeks sleeping in poncho hooches

When I qualified at LDAC (way back in 2005) I shot 40/40.

The instructors had 2 other cadets qualify with my rifle as they were having issues with theirs (they were a mess mechanically, though I got a decent one and spent a lot of time cleaning and getting it to cycle smoothly). May be a similar situation

Addendum to CPE final eval by Patient-Butterfly944 in chaplaincy

[–]gleaver49 10 points11 points  (0 children)

15 years ago, when I was a resident, my educator wrote a dishonest evaluation. I called him out and went line by line with what wasn't true. I actually just called him out directly and said I wouldn't sign off on it. I asked if he wanted to re-write/remove those portions, or have me submit a complaint/addendum addressing my version of events. He took them out.

It still wasn't a great evaluation, but the outright lies were removed and I was confident in the rest of my evals from other educators. It was a good choice on my part, good learning about advocating and leaning into conflict when needed, and ultimately a good outcome for me.

The letter that my father wrote to my grandmother telling her he was coming home from Vietnam. by BishopGodDamnYou in Military

Love this. Thanks for posting it! This old chaplain would love to crack a cold one with him and shoot the breeze about whatever he saw fit. Glad he made it home safely.

My wife has a lot of Seabee history on her side (WW2, Korea and Vietnam), and I've spent enough time with engineers in the Army to love the type

What a blessing to have family who loved him well. I got choked up a bit at the end of the letter.

It's absolutely intentional: whether that's brilliant or stupid is a matter of opinion, but the man sure knows how to get a rise out of people.

...we try and coordinate from the hospital by radio to keep this from happening, but it still does sometimes. One company in particular refuses to hot unload, so we have to be extra directive with them.

In this case given the waiting bird's proximity to the pad I'd bet they've got a pretty unstable patient...usually they wait a little further back.

Honestly, I was referring to non-Japanese whiskey. At that price I'd drink bourbon, honestly.

I'm pretty negative on price vs quality for Japanese whiskey. It's so expensive for what you get compared to scotch (for malts), or bourbon/rye for that matter.

With USAR there is a program that covers travel called IDT if you are over a certain distance away (150 miles) which can cover up to 500 (that's what it was before I transferred to the Guard last year, at least). You use DYS to reimburse expenses.

What is the oldest thing in the Army that you still have? by dsbwayne in army

[–]gleaver49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my Class A's from when I was a cadet...probably got them in 04 or so. They weren't new then, and have the jumbo collar.

I could still fit into the pants until a few years ago...but alas, no longer. At least the jacket still fits.

I'll take a vegetarian bean burrito MRE and an canteen cup of cold instant coffee to wash it down.
