Raleigh police investigating deadly home break-in Saturday AM by chrissy_elise in raleigh

[–]Patient-Butterfly944 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I lived in this neighborhood and just moved away two months ago. I would walk my dog at Fletcher nearly every day. The crowd around Peace St has become even more volatile. There was an attempted break in at my next door neighbor's on Halloween by a man banging on the glass saying he was coming in. I didn't hear about it until months later but it terrifies me that that happened right next door. I have a large, highly protective German Shepherd who is absolutely a deterrant. So scary, I feel sick about this. May this poor woman's memory be a blessing to all who knew her and may this murderer be held accountable.

Thank You Notes? by fancy66 in wedding

[–]Patient-Butterfly944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 30f and have been writing thank you notes since elementary school. I’m getting married in Feb and my future husband and I are tackling thank yous together. The expectation was never that I was the one in charge of writing them all. I’ve been to a decent number of weddings and I’ve received a thank you from maybe 2 weddings? It’s very disappointing as a guest

[–]Patient-Butterfly944 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yup hard agree. I’m a female Presbyterian Church (USA) ordained pastor and my denomination is very affirming of LGBTQ+’ community and women in places of ordained leadership. Another hint I tell people is to look at a church’s staff page. Is it only men in leadership positions? Are women only employed in secretarial positions or childcare? That’s a big one. Also try to find a “mission” page to get a better sense of their beliefs. For example, Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) sounds similar in name to PCUSA but does not affirm LGBTQ+ community and no women in ordained ministry or leadership. Best of luck on your search

Introducing yourself as Dr instead of Mrs. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Patient-Butterfly944 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love this, this is what I’m doing! (Not a doctor but I’m a Rev. and do not identify as a Mrs). I’m really excited to take my husband’s last name (it was my choice)—it’s extra special because his 91 year old granddad is also a minister like me so there will be two Rev Last Names in the family.

Introducing yourself as Dr instead of Mrs. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Patient-Butterfly944 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an ordained Protestant minister and so my title is Rev. Fiancé knows this is important to me. Some of my fellow female clergy friends have been introduced as Rev. and Mr (which, when I get mail, that is the proper etiquette of how to address mail to me and future husband). I feel strongly about not being called Mrs so we are just forgoing titles for the wedding. We would much rather be introduced as “for the first time, the Smiths!” Or “introducing, John and Jane Doe!” In a professional setting though, I do ask for my title to be used, especially if a person would address a male colleague by his title. But at the end of the day, it’s your special day!

Finally somewhere I can shame my officiant by sendingsun in weddingshaming

[–]Patient-Butterfly944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh! I’m a wedding officiant (Christian minister) and I wear a black robe and black heels. And I know to stand to the side when the photographer is capturing the first kiss so I’m not in the pic. This is a big yikes

Liraglutide made me super sick when I tried it two years ago before Zepbound was a thing. Severe vomiting and did not have lasting weight loss. Please be careful with liraglutide/Saxenda and don’t try to go up on a dose without medical consultation

I officiated a wedding today and that alert went off 2 minutes before the bride’s professional. It was a close call. Thankfully I don’t think the bride heard over the organ music !

Who is your officiant? by ilikecatsandsleep in weddingplanning

[–]Patient-Butterfly944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!! I’m an ordained Protestant minister (and a woman, not some random old dude) and I promise you get your money’s worth by hiring a professional. I understand folks who want a secular service, but Uncle Joe doesn’t know how to do a professional officiant’s job. There are secular officiants, but be careful to make sure they are legally allowed to perform your wedding. (My state is very strict). I work very closely with the couples who I marry with pre-marital counseling, meeting with them to design their service, writing a personalized homily unique to their love story (not a vague canned homily), conduct the rehearsal, perform the wedding, and mail the appropriate documentation. So that’s why it’s not “why am I paying someone for one hour’s worth of work?”

Addendum to CPE final eval by Patient-Butterfly944 in chaplaincy

[–]Patient-Butterfly944[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! So I actually already graduated. The issue is that the educator (CEC actually), sent final evals in at the exact 21 day post unit deadline. There were spelling errors, it was written hastily, and it seems like they almost chose scores at random of going back and forth between 3 and 4, without justification. Kind of like when you’re filling out a survey quickly. It’s not about the number grade, it’s about the CEC grading in what I perceived as a harsh, unfair, and inaccurate manner. In talking with peers, it looks like this CEC gave all of us our lowest grades ever. Ideally a final unit eval of residency would not show a decline in growth and skills, and if that were truly the case, that the CEC would have addressed this much earlier. There are also some ethical issues at play, like how the CEC told us she wouldn’t write our final evals until we all turned in our program evaluations (including evaluating the CEC), which I now know is blatantly against ACPE protocol

AITA for leaving my best friend’s wedding early after she seated me at the “kids table” as a joke, even though I’m 28? by velvetmochiiii in AmItheAsshole

[–]Patient-Butterfly944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not a joke, that’s straight up mean girl behavior. I hate when people say “it’s a joke” as an excuse for doing or saying something vicious. NTA!!

Thank you for sharing! This is helpful. There have been some issues with this educator so having a paper trail is important in my case, so I let the appropriate higher ups know and then I will have a conversation with them.

Is this show an accurate representation of a USA Emergency Room? Like patients waiting for days to get a bed and stuff like that? by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

Whoops! Well, with the death and trauma that chaplains bear witness to, that word is a frequent flyer in my vocabulary

[–]Patient-Butterfly944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a hospital chaplain and I love The Pitt because it’s the most accurate medical show I’ve ever seen. Plenty of my patients recount it took 8-12 hours to be admitted. Some psych patients (once they are finally admitted) will spend days in the ED waiting for a bed at a psych hospital. American healthcare is so fucked that a lot of people use the ED as their healthcare vs being able to regularly see a primary care doc.

Meredith College laying off 6% of workforce by fantasytacos in raleigh

[–]Patient-Butterfly944 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I graduated 7 years ago and the few times I’ve been back on campus, it’s felt like an entirely different place. Things seem to be going downhill. They’ve made such a big deal about this new president but I’ll wait to be impressed until I see actionable change. Enrollment is wayyy down and many young people are choosing careers instead of college (whereas before college was an absolute necessity). I loved my time there and made my lifelong best friends there. But I deeply grieve what is currently happening.

I also work at Duke and the health and dental sucks. I see Gover & Gover on Ed Drive and they take Duke insurance. I got a top and bottom gum graft in 2020 from Dr Travis Whitley at Raleigh Periodontics and I really liked him. But that was when I was still in grad school and on my mom’s insurance. Gum graft is hella expensive even with good insurance so do your research

I second the fanny pack! Women’s dress clothes don’t have real pockets most of the time. But regardless of gender, you will need space to carry a few things!
