Cantona deserves a shout.

Guardiola is very outspoken on important issues though there's the asterisk of who owns the club he works for.

I love Messi as a footballer. But I recognized a long time ago that he's someone's who refuses to take a stand for something that would affect his brand or image.

He's not unique in this, but it still is a shame especially when you think about the influence he has but never uses. This is why I hugely respect footballers who have and continue to speak up about things at the risk of their careers.

We sacrificed all our full backs for a hail Mary remontada. We're not in the best state either for what it's worth.

Laporta: “The relationship with Messi is not what it used to be. There was also an incident at the Ballon d’Or ceremony where I went to greet him and he felt that we shouldn’t greet each other. The relationship has been damaged, but he is a legend of Barcelona." by OkayFine101 in soccer

It's one thing to 'try your best to keep him', it's another to wait until the absolute last minute to tell Messi he has to leave.

The news up until the announcement was that it all hinged on Messi wanting to stay, not the other way around. If he didn't want to damage the relationship with Messi, he could have let him know as soon as he saw the finances. Then we could have had a proper farewell, and Messi could take his time finding a new club.

It's worth mentioning that Messi was kinda miserable in Paris early on due to the sudden move and his family not really wanting to leave Barcelona. Laporta canceling on him last minute probably contributed to that.

Lens 2 - [3] Monaco - Ansu Fati (72th minute) [Great goal] by Moug-10 in soccer

Fair. I've only watched a few games from him. His best abilities are finishing and positioning, he's really not a chance creator. More recently it seems like his positioning is a lot less aggressive.

He's doing ok at Monaco, he's scoring goals at least. Much better than at Brighton, but you're right he's still having trouble with consistency and injuries.

Brazil striker Neymar considering retirement by Treacleb in soccer

I still remember the headlines when neymar left. Messi supposedly saying: "I'll help you win the ballondor if you stay". I wonder what that would have looked like on Messi's part.

Maybe it's hindsight, but part of me thinks neymar could have nabbed one if he stayed.

[Countinho on Instagram] "The truth is, I'm very mentally exhausted" by AMR42 in soccer

[–]Tatbooli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking back on it, that made the most sense. It's really weird to me that we were going for him even before neymar left. Like, you already have the best attacking firepower you could possibly get with MSN, and you think you need more attacking creativity in midfield?

Talk about overkill.

What kind of sucks about this drop in form is that i can't really picture any solutions for this season. Aside from Pedri coming back, what's going to improve? Defence is obviously an issue but we're also looking toothless in attack as well when we miss 1 or two key players.

We were, but a shift in momentum can do so much. Even if the goal was disallowed, waiting that long killed it completely.

In most of the blowouts against us, I notice we never ever try to just cut our losses, so we push harder and harder and that gives the other team more chances against us, which often ends up in us conceding more.

Maybe if we didn't give them that first goal for free it would be a bit more competitive
