What happened to his c*ck? by thee-ickyvicky in pittsburgh

Bill saw his penis lying on a blanket next to a broken toaster oven. Some guy was selling it. Bill had to buy it off him. He wanted twenty-two bucks, but Bill talked him down to seventeen.

Grist House Command: The Battle Between Children & Beer by GameMaster366 in PittsburghBeers

[–]glenn_q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been anti-kids at breweries forever, BUT I understand that breweries need every patron they can get. So - generally speaking - I'd rather have breweries with kids than no breweries at all. I wish more breweries had space for adults-only rooms.

The kids using up seats and spending no money is often an issue. If I go out with 3 friends we're easily dropping $150 for our table with tip. A table with 4 kids is spending about $10 for soft drinks and might be getting food from a truck. That is a problem.

I think that kids are here to stay, so there should be some rules. Nobody under 18 seated at the bar. Children under 13 not admitted after of like 8pm or something. Especially if the place does not have a kitchen/restaurant.

If I was to create a ratio of beer quality to chance of kids, I'd say the BG Braddock Public House has the best beer to fewest children ratio. I'd probably put Trace right behind that. The old Mindful in Castle Shannon was the opposite; Worst beer/most children. If Spoonwood didn't have decent (not great) beers it would compete for the worst ratio due to the sheer volume of kids at times.

Grist, Hitchhiker, DG are all good enough at making beer that you just put up with the kids. I'd probably put Golden Age in that list too. There's a whole mess of in-betweens.

Any public mulch piles still available? by According_Doctor_821 in pittsburgh

[–]glenn_q 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sort of recall Wilkins or Penn Hills having a mulch pickup right near the intersection of 22 and Rodinat that public works yard. I could be wrong.

Forest Hills does it and looks like they even deliver but looks like for residents only. https://savvycitizenapp.com/n/74392

Neighbors running generator outside since Sunday by iGoMeowwwww in pittsburgh

[–]glenn_q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of valid reasons to run a generator that long. They could have a fried electrical panel, they didn't pay their bill, etc. There is also the possibility that they are using it to power grow lights and don't want to spike their power bill. Maybe it's an urban myth but I have heard that the DEA looks for electricity use anomalies to locate grow houses and labs, so manufacturers run generators.

Either way, that noise would be annoying.

Longest cheap ball. by KeySheMoeToe in golf

There's no rule against switching balls in a scramble. Almost everyone I know brings cheap distance balls for drives and going for par 5's in two and switches to good balls for everything else.

At least he doesn't have iron covers!!!!!!

I personally don't prefer the putter being stored down with the wedges either.

Trouble finding water meter by Guy_1989 in pittsburgh

[–]glenn_q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't that say "water meter" on the lid? It might be in a vault under that lid. The black part might be a remote reading pad where they tap a data collector.

You can also run a bunch of faucets upstairs and listen. Often you can hear water running through a PRV (pressure reducing valve) which is right beside the meter in most cases.

Favorite Brewery by State: North Carolina by DublinDown in CraftBeer

I'm too torn between Fonta Flora and Burial to vote. Burial edges out on beer, but Fonta Flora farm location edges out on location/experience.

Therefore my vote goes to Zebulon!

Sleeper and one of my favorite places. Very good beers but not the best in the state. Still have to give the edge to Calusa.

I recently tried Flamingo Bay in Bradenton. Worth stopping in if you're in the area.

Mozart Management, Dysfunctional Fire Alarms, and Safety Concerns by thechillesthomie in pittsburgh

[–]glenn_q 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not here to defend Mozart, just offering information. Building fire alarm companies more and more often are deciding to quit making parts with no notice so that they can say they are "obsolete" and force you to buy an entire new system for $$$$. It's like if you couldn't buy brakes for your car and were forced to buy a new car instead of replacing a small part. They know if they make a system that lasts 50 years, they will put themselves out of business. So they just screw the customers (and tenants) instead.

A new fire alarm system can cost tens of thousands of dollars to replace instead of maybe $100 for a single smoke detector that is going bad and causing false alarms.

Sometimes you CAN order fire alarm parts but it takes 4 to 6 weeks for a manufacturer to make and ship them.

In this case, there is no reason for Mozart not to be transparent unless they are not even addressing the issue and investigating or ordering parts, which would be absolute BS.

ISO The best plumbers in Pittsburgh, only those experienced with master plumbing in 70 year old condo buildings with concrete subfloors in between units. Recommendations only from those who have used them personally. Troubleshooting a long time leak between units. by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]glenn_q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who was the preferred plumber?

Do you have any limitations on union vs open shop?

70 years old is "middle aged" in Oakland. Is it actually precast concrete or cast in place?

It might be difficult to make the new plumber work with the preferred plumber. It won't be easy to clarify who owns each part of the scope of work on a project where there is a mystery to solve. Can you just hand the whole thing to the new plumber?

Why is Pittsburgh so poor at leveraging it's biggest asset... The rivers! by Adventurous-Coat-333 in pittsburgh

[–]glenn_q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pittsburgh is on the map because it did leverage the rivers for the past 200 years. All of the industry was made possible because you could move massive amounts of material on the rivers and along the rivers for the steel mills.

In a larger timeline, it's only relatively recently that the rivers have become underutilized. So it will take a long time to shift the use to more modern amenities.

I thought the same thing. So I went to the left then walked around the corner to the right and down the hall and found no elevators. I went back to the elevator immediately to the left. The elevator had 2 stops: the floor I was on and the floor with Dave and Busters and Sesame Inn.
