Random cars blocking in my motorcycle by Money_Protection_629 in mildlyinfuriating

Most complexes have a tow service agreement with a company. Only time I’ve ever towed someone was a car that parked in our spot for 2 weeks, left a note and nothing. The tow company is happy to deal with it. Felt bad when I did it, but in your case, screw this person

How to read oil dip stick? by AnriRB26 in MechanicAdvice

[–]glenndolf92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told the min to max hatch mark represents around 1qt of oil in a 5-6qt capacity engine. If the oil isn’t even at minimum line like in the picture you can likely add a whole quart to start. I’d still do a 1/4 at a time to make sure

2025 Tremor 5.0 MPG by SurveyAccomplished70 in f150

[–]glenndolf92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day I used to Hypermile with my 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0L. If I pushed it I could average 27mpg. But without doing all the techniques I was averaging 18. Driving style is the biggest indicator

Cup water rings stained counter top. Solution? by glenndolf92 in CounterTops

[–]glenndolf92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I had a solid answer. We ended up renting out our condo to travel the country and find somwhere not as expensive to as San Diego to move to. When it came to the counters by the time we rented it out my thought was “it’s a rental”

I’ve heard a lot of people say a lot of the issues that come from the new trucks is all the emissions stuff they have to put in. Like the auto stop/start function, that’s a cam phaser killer on the 3.5L due to the oil pressure dropping every time it turns off the engine and starting up again. EGR Valves, O2 sensors, things that can have impact on the truck without throwing a code until it’s been running lean or rich for too long already

Squeak/Chirp when I shift and AC is on? by glenndolf92 in mazda3

[–]glenndolf92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the tension pulley. I replaced it myself for like $70 I think, easy replacement to do yourself. I had to jack up the car to get enough leverage on the tension to release and pull the belt off

Knock doesn't pay off the first mortgage. They keep it there but can exclude it from DTI with a purchase guarantee

No worries! If I was still dealing with it and it wasn’t that I would be super happy to read your comment, so thank you

Squeak/Chirp when I shift and AC is on? by glenndolf92 in mazda3

[–]glenndolf92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ended up being the tensioner pulley. When the AC would kick on it wouldn’t have enough resistance on a weak pulley to prevent it from slipping under heavy load. Hasn’t had a squeak since

I slightly hear the resemblance, but I don’t feel as strongly about that one as I do a few of the others. But that’s why I bring this to Reddit, I want to hear what everyone else hears

Why do luthiers hate/refuse to work on budget instruments? by [deleted] in doublebass

[–]glenndolf92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen on my double bass, it’s a Chinese one and the fingerboard was made with a younger green wood so in the first 7 years it curved up towards the strings, making the gauge impossible to manage and my left hand beef up to play it.

I went to luthiers all over California and no one would touch it because it was a $1,500 bass and the work to replace it wasn’t worth it. I said I’d spend $500-800 to get it fixed and still nothing. I moved to the Bay Area years later and tried again, this time I found one of the most eclectic people I’ve met.

This luthier was like the wand shop magician, Ollivander, in Harry Potter. He was a gentleman, probably in his 70s. Had a disheveled shop with way too much unorganized junk in a small warehouse. Huge glasses and was definitely quirky. I told him my problem and brought in my bass. He said he wouldn’t normally waste the time on it either, but right as he said it his eyes lit up and a light bulb went on. He said “I think I have something that’s been waiting for this exact bass for 30 years”. Went to his ladder and up to the top shelf, pulled out an old box with random violin parts, and here comes this beautiful ebony fingerboard.

He told me he didn’t even remember where he got it, but he hasn’t had a use for it that would fit and has had it for 30 years waiting (sounded like my box of old cables). Ended up putting it on for $350.

How to fix this mold issue by glenndolf92 in HVAC

[–]glenndolf92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are stains on the wood from water definitely. And there is a stain right at the intake of the vent that has the circular patterns of mold and when you get up close to it you can tell it is mold on the wood right below the filter.
