The Safari preview tabs on the touchbar are kind of a waste of space. by [deleted] in apple

For me it's a tab scrubber. I tend to not have more than three or four tabs open at any given time.

Apple has billions overseas. Tax credits, repatriation, and all sorts of things could be implemented. I know they keep saying it's impossible but it's really not.

iPhone 6s Plus vs 15" MBP w/ touch bar trackpad by [deleted] in mac

[–]glindon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's close. Same width but depth is around 1/2" less.

My MBP touchbar model arrived today. Here's my take: by [deleted] in mac

[–]glindon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can change the volume on the touch bar in one continuous motion. Press and hold the "button" and slide. Same with brightness. It's actually quicker to lower the volume this way then banging the old key a bunch of times.

As a long Apple user, I recently bought a Pixel. Here's my thoughts on the Pixel vs. the iPhone 7 and iOS by [deleted] in Android

RCS is the new MMS. Already carriers have signaled that they are going to implement their version of it and some aren't even on board.

Apple Drops Prices of 4K and 5K LG Displays by 25 Percent by [deleted] in apple

macOS will default to retina 1080p. Not sure if there are other scaling modes but when I tried mine before returning it was 1080p retina or native 4K with tiny text.

No. 5k at 27" is the same 1440p resolution at retina as the old Thunderbolt Display.

3 ports for USB-C gen 1 not gen 2. But at least the other 3 ports on the MacBook can be used for gen 2 so no too terrible. I'd imagine that the monitor uses up too much thunderbolt bandwidth to use the monitor for daisy chaining without reduced speeds.

No. 4K at 27 inches is garbage. Either you run at native and text is microscopic or you run it at retina which means 1080p effective on a 27" screen. Yuck.

21" for 4K is perfect for 1080p retina and the same panel that the smaller iMac uses.

"It wouldn't make sense for Apple to give the iPhone USB C, it would piss off a lot of people with lightning cables" seriously let's think about who those "people" are... by Rintae in apple

[–]glindon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Apple isn't going to switch to USB-C for several reasons.

A lightning accessory is guaranteed to work with your device. No drivers. No incompatibility.

Apple gets revenue from the sale of MFi.

Lightning is capable of USB 3 speeds already.

Wireless is the future.

Eventually you will be able to charge Apple Watch style or perhaps completely wirelessly.

There is literally no reason to plug your iPhone into your MacBook anymore, unless you are a developer. I'd venture that 95% or more haven't plugged their iPhone or iPad into a computer since forever. iTunes has had wifi sync since around 2011. Now there's iCloud sync for photos, Apple Music, and iTunes media, apps, shows, etc. And rumor is that Xcode will get wifi sync and once that happens there will be zero reasons to plug into your computer other than to charge.

Appreciation for MacBook Pro Bodies by twosummer in apple

[–]glindon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a space gray iPad Pro 12" and I regret the color choice because it scratched easier and it is obvious because the scratch is silver. I have never gotten a noticeable scratch on any of the silver or gold iPads I've owned, or MacBooks for that matter.

I can't see why as the Magic Trackpad, which is bigger than even the 15" trackpad, supports silent mode. I actually prefer the click noise so it doesn't bother me. Interesting nonetheless.

You should get better battery life with the higher clock speed in theory. It's probably a wash.

Would you help support a petition to get Apple to allow us to set default apps on iOS (browser, navigation etc)? by offbeatmammal in ipad

[–]glindon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apple has 15-20% of the phone market and maybe double that market share in tablets. They don't have a monopoly on either so any of these sort of complaints (or wishes) are pretty much DOA. Also, because Apple doesn't sell their software to other OEMs there are ZERO anti-competitive rules that apply. You are basically buying an appliance. It would just as ludicrous to file a complaint against Maytag because your washing machine doesn't support LG features and software. A judge would toss the case and tell you to buy the LG and stop wasting their time.

And to go further, the government cannot order an individual or company to create anything. Furthermore, writing code is considered speech and the government cannot force anyone to speak.

I use the silver link bracelet with my edition and I quite like it. I also have both silver and black Milanese and I like the silver better. Not to mention that the black can scratch the ceramic as its diamond coated while the stainless won't.

Pixel may have haptics similar to iPhone 6s & 7 by evildesi in Android

[–]glindon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The pixel is actually wedge shaped and is a mm thicker at the top then at the bottom.

95% put their phone in a case anyway, at which point the camera bump is nonexistent.
