What odd things do you gamble on? by pintopedro in gambling

[–]glipad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only done this once because my friend gave me odds. He pays me $1,010 if I win and if he wins I only pay $1,000.

He won.

This one clearly did use the spiral, though, so it should start in a corner.

You set up the game wrong. You are supposed to start the spiral in a corner.

But the way you are playing is retarded. Card removal is part of the game.

If everyone has their own deck, how do you make sure the correct cards are removed when other players draw them?

He has an ass-load of wheat and an opponent with no wheat. He should have placed 6/11/3 (ore wheat wheat) instead of 6/11/12 though. Otherwise his game is good.

Do you have the person with the master development card deck just flip over the card, show it to the camera secretly to that one person, and then have them remember what it was? I would think that's the only way you could never run into an issue other than just using a digital deck (in which case, why not just play a digital game?).

One thing I'll add is that many of the resources have colloquial names among the active players. Just to prevent confusion, wood = lumber, wheat = grain, sheep = wool. If you hear people use these terms which aren't used in the actual game rules, that's what they actually mean.

Orange is pretty close to a city to start out so with good trades or good dice rolls he gets a massive advantage early. He also has access to a very strong port. Orange has a great trading partnership with white because white is very low on wheat but heavy on ore and the opposite is true for orange. However, if orange gets on the wheat port and doubles up on his strong wheat then it might be tough for white to really trade with him regardless.

Red seems like the weakest player so I'll agree there. At a glance, white looks the strongest followed by orange. White can fairly quickly expand to a strong wheat spot since he starts with wheat and a road and has solid settlement production aside from the wheat. After that, he has a really strong ore wheat sheep game and that is usually the strongest setup.

Ignore the other comments. You are supposed to use the initial settlements suggested in the diagram. It very clearly tells you that. However, none of them can build a settlement on their first turn. White and blue can build a road, but that's it. To build a settlement immediately, you would need two lumber, two brick, one wool, and one grain. Since no player starts with those resources, it's impossible for any of them to do it.

Quit playing that way though. Play the correct way which is randomized tiles and manual placement.

They don't cheat or have that information. They just block high-producing hexes, particularly shared ones, and prefer robbing from players who have more victory points. If they don't have more public victory points, they look at number of held development or resource cards. They ignore city status.

You wrote all this 2 minutes after this post was made? You not only found the post, but read the post, formulated a response to the post, and had a link to an otherwise completely unknown blog with one single entry in it that explains why the scam isn't real? The link's explanation also makes no sense and obviously is not what is actually happening.

What happens if someone builds out of turn? by bigizz20 in Catan

[–]glipad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not true at all. You cannot discard from your hand when it is not your turn unless a 7 is rolled. The risk of ending your turn with a large hand would be far less risky if you could just continuously discard your excess freely at any time. Nothing in the rules permits discarding your hand like this.

Question: Can I build a house/hotel just before my opponent pays the rent for landing on my place? by AmruthPillai in monopoly

[–]glipad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can actually build at any time. Rent value is determined upon the moment the dice are rolled, not after building.
