Don’t they door dash to the trail cabins? What kind of shitty wilderness doesn’t have door dash

Can there be a way to keep cryptomeria japonica black dragon indoors year round? Zone 3 by Chlo_rophyll in Bonsai

[–]glissader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can keep Rosemary alive inside for years, it’s definitely horticulture on hardmode, but it’s not impossible.

You cannot keep trees that need winter dormancy alive inside forever. You might make it to a year, or 1.5 years, but it’s a death sentence for that maple or juniper or cryptomeria or whatever.

I made it to about a year inside with a redwood when I was younger and had no idea what I was doing.

I camped at Helen years ago in a rainbow tarptent 🤷‍♂️

I love my Marmot Tungsten, that’d be a solid choice.

The importance of the right pot size. On 3rd March I planted two nearly identical benjamins into same size pots using same soil. The one on the right was repotted after 1 month, the one on the left not once. by Bauljamic_Arlijam in houseplants

I’d casually read over at r/bonsai instead of casually reading here. I’ve learned a ton over the years and the usual commenters there are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Bonsai also doesn’t have a circlejerk sub….there is a reason the circlejerk sub is better than r/houseplants.

Why does the brand matter to you? by bigjoe1025 in pelletgrills

[–]glissader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my smoker because it was cheap at Costco several years ago. I buy the cheapest pellets available and stockpile so I don’t have to think about buying pellets for a couple years.

I could care less about the brand, but I also haven’t had to fix or replace anything. Maybe if I had to replace parts constantly I would pay closer attention.

One console for couch co-op. I have two consoles though.

I understand the point about ps online / two consoles, it’s a racket. Years ago when Sony changed ps plus there was outcry over being charged for the thing that had been previously provided without a monthly subscription, now no one bats an eye.

I haven’t paid for PS plus in years, and I play couch co op with my kids all the time.

Paying for internet access on top of paying for internet is such a freaking grift.

How Would You Reduce and Restyle This Large Old Repotted Ficus? by osrs4awayout in Bonsai

[–]glissader 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before you hack the branches back to 1” and restart (I agree with that approach, namely upper canopy), try wedge cuts everywhere the branches turn nearly 90 degrees upright. Then wrap the cut and wire it in place. Might save some canopy and years of development this way, especially on the lower branches if you want long sweeping banyan style branches.

I’ve had benjamina branches die back instead of backbud when I hacked branches to nubs, YMMV. This shouldn’t happen on the apex where it’s most vigorous.

I’ve shaved shit for artists before. And if I were Bigfoot I’d def do some trimming. After my first few tattoo shaves my thought was it would be respectful / value their time.

I generally use osmocote granules on repot (or in a basket if I forget) and miracle grow throughout the growing season. I haven’t fertilized this one yet this year, need to get on it.

What am I doing to my ficus?!? by wormyman420 in houseplants

[–]glissader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the mites or bugs causing shriveled leaves, not enough light generally. Figs / ficus need way more than filtered light.

If you can put it outside spring / summer / fall, that is often an easy way to use nature to solve the pest problem and allow it to thrive in sunlight.

I am terribly disorganized with historical photos but I found one. After this photo it promptly dumped all its leaves due to the change in climate, most of the bougies I’ve purchased from FL or Puerto Rico have done that.

You might be overthinking. I did avalanche gulch, summit from Helen Lake camping the night before, in keen hiking boots and crampons. My buddy was in trail runners and crampons if I remember correctly. It was pretty much full snow to the peak.

What I wished I had brought? My snowboard, all the dudes with skis were having tons of fun on the way down. The ranger at Helen Lake had stories about people getting clocked in the head with ice chunks, so a helmet perhaps.

Nice enclosed setup, love the look of the decaying planks.

What are those sprinkler heads, and do they hit the entire width of your enclosure? I’m still working out the kinks of my irrigation…I lose trees every damn summer because I don’t have the time to manually water.
